We’re not quite ready to unleash our entire catalog, which includes millions of products. Instead, we’re starting out by offering thousands of items as we begin our international expansion. Don’t worry though; we’ll be adding new items frequently as we widen our overseas reach.

Don't believe the hype about Newegg. Most of the prices are absolutely killed by freight costs and if anything does go wrong, well good luck on the time it will take to get a replacement or refund I just costed a Samsung 240g ssd from Newegg at $197.75 shipped to Australia when I can go to MSY and buy $175.00 over the counter. Sure it may be good for items that you cannot buy in Australia but overall I do not think it is as good as almost everyone thinks it is.

    • +1

Agreed. A large amount of items are cheaper (after the shipping factor) at MSY than on Newegg. Buy here if you can unless it's significantly cheaper, or unavailable..

    • +1

Yea my initial excitement has subsided. A lot of the prices are only marginally cheaper than Aus, or in some cases more expensive. Moreover, BH overall seems to be cheaper for many items.

For marginal price differences I'd rather support MSY / PCCG (and get the items instantly or within a two days).

For the larger price differences double check with BH as they have been cheaper for me on a number of things.

      • Pardon my ignorance, but what's BH?

        • +3

          Probably refers to http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

        • +1

Correct. Largely for Photography & Cinematography, but also stocks a good range of PC gear (not all of it will be in stock) and generally without shipping restrictions, albeit slightly more expensive shipping.

      • -2

        Sorry, what's BH?

I get nervous buying electronics from another state not to mention another country in regards to returns for DOA or warranty

Refurbished corsair H100 for ~90AUD shipped, new these cost $150 here so that's not half bad.

    • That's right but it is a refurbished older model(which was discontinued about 18 months ago). New model is a 100i

  • Yay … As a Florida expat, this is great news. I used to buy from Newegg & BestBuy alot while I was in the US.

  • Waiting on those bugs to be ironed out.

  • I'm amazed how long this has taken. It would have been about 10 years ago when I was enviously browsing newegg.

  • -3

Rep, any 4TB external drives that will ship to Oz?

    • +1

silent1 is not a rep for newegg…don't think there are any reps yet that visit ozb.

  • For an extra $50 ($1120), might as well go for the MSI GE Series GE70 17" with 12GB & GTX 765M:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152…

IMO the MSi doesn't look or feel as ggood as the ASUS N series, but its better value I think.

    Upvotes, upvotes for everybody :D

Everyone is losing their shit here prematurely; are there any really good deals to be had?

    Shall we make a list?

    • +7

From the limited looking its all very similar to amazon pricing, however amazon doesnt charge for return shipping and has price matching etc.

Not seeing the hype around this, its nice, but amazon was and still is a step above.

  • Not sure if these are good deals, haven't really kept up with prices. Last I checked MSY was competitive with US prices, but most chains aren't.
I got my last graphics card from Newegg but it was a pain to get it here so this is great news, especially once they unleash the whole range. Even if US prices aren't competitive Newegg tends to have a wider range, offering things we never get here.

  • That's great. I remember a few years ago seeing the site before realizing it didn't ship to Aus I was very surprised at the low prices.

  • All I can say is holysh!tsnacks!! :)

Hope this pushes local prices down.

Only real problem would be warranty claims, damn they' be a nightmare.

    • These days, most computer parts in Oz are pretty competitively priced with the US stores. The big differences are with cars and car parts, clothes, sporting goods, hi-fi equipment.

      • That's true! Car prices is a big joke in AU. I wish Porsche USA shipped their goods directly to AU customers.

        • +1

Its not the price thats a joke. The base price is quite reasonable. Its the GST, Luxury Tax, and other dealer and government charges that make luxury car prices a joke.

        • Yeh low range arn't bad value. However if you want something upper end or performance ****!. I picked up a kia cerato 2.0l si brand new for 15k with metalic paint etc driveaway back at start of 2013. Want something better mid-range to upper range, be prepared to pay buckets for small upgrades.

        • +1

Interestingly, every Porsche racing team in Australia races with left hand drive cars (ie. imported from overseas). Its sad to think that even the Australian businessmen/racers that have access to writing off their race cars as marketing/tax write-offs won't purchase their Porsche race cars in Australia.

  • need guidance buying nas drives

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178…
i m thinking to buy 2 of these costs me 295$ (after applying 10% off) with shipping
    is it good price ????

    • That's pretty pricey dude

Just get a normal 2TB from msy for $96.

      • any chance of crashing them by running 24X7

        • I imagine your NAS should have sleep timer settings, you should be able to make it sleep the HDDs overnight as I doubt you need them running in your sleep. Even still if one fails you just replace it with another of same size and away you go, that what RAID is all about.

    • 2 of them would cost you $261.55 delivered from Shopping Express or $256 pick up from MSY.

Here's a good site to check out local prices

Awesome let's hit those greedy local retailers where it hurts!

  • +3

I agree with some of the posters above about the 'hype'.
But definitely a good sign of things to come with the increased competition.

  • love newegg, their shipping in US rocked, it was every time next day in NJ. Not sure what will be the experience in Melbourne. also prices would be interesting to watch for AUS. If its the same price as US, AUS will see a major correction in hardware parts (~25%)

  • +1

plus, dont forget newegg coupons, they rock and lot of items have cashback. plus the 3 shellshocker deals (love those)

    check www.deals2buy.com
    and www.techbargain.com

both very popular US site for coupons.

    • +1

Please make sure to post if you find a decent coupon and bargain combo.
Most of us dont know those sites but they sound good.

    • +3

In my experience cashback offers don't apply to non-US citizens.

  • yay bloody awesome !

  • +1

Meh, most of the stuff is barely cheaper then local stock before shipping.

  • is there a American bargain site for temporary California residents?

  • +2

Will their digital downloads no longer be region locked also?

    Shipping: $1000000

This one time I bought an electric toothbrush off Amazon, plugged it in to charge and the whole thing burst into flames (110V you see). Ahh good times.

    • +1

Those kind of things are dual voltage so would charge fine at 240v. Is this scare tactics from a local retailer? :D

      • +2

Nah they're not. My Oral B toothbrush that I bought here is 220-240V only.

      • No scare tactics here - I love buying off Amazon but I wont touch electronics off there anymore. It wasn't an electric toothbrush (I just said that to simplify it for OZB) but it was a water flosser that you use to shoot water between your teeth. Plugged it in and smoke poured out then burst into flames. $120 down the drain, Amazon didn't want to know about it as it was "not designed for use in your country as it is 110v."

        • +1

Maybe you should have checked it before plugging it in? I wonder if they pay for return shipping in that situation.

  • +3

Outrageous shipping costs, shipping restrictions on a lot of things.. why even bother?

  • +1

Slightly off topic, but can 28 degrees card be used on the US NewEgg site where you can actually buy useful stuff? I've seen posts by EC saying to use Amex and add addresses to PayPal at time of purchase, but I'd really like to know if people have used 28 Degrees.

  • +3

WOW. This is massive. Wonder how the AU etailers are taking the news.

  • +5

This is a GAME CHANGER, scary time to be an Aussie Tech Business

    • Lol yah, I bet all the big retail business have started to call their lobbyists

  • Awesome, I have been waiting and waiting for newegg to ship to Australia. Awesome products, prices and reviews. Bout time!!

  • And about f***ing time too! Awesome news!

  • If you spend over $1000 and then pay the GST, do you reckon customs give you a proper receipt so that you can claim the GST back through the tourist refund scheme? I am going overseas within 60 days.

    • Unfortunately not. I tried this with a camcorder I bought from BH Video a couple of years ago. Even though I paid GST as it was over $1000, they said the goods need to be purchased from an Australian retailer to qualify for a GST refund.

  • +2

I just did a quick check. Samsung 240GB Evo SSD is $140 US on Amazon but $182 on NewEgg. My initial feeling is either buy locally from MSY/UMart/PCCaseGear for reasonable good prices with a warranty, use Amazon to save money, and only buy hard to find items (eg like some brands of NAS) from Newegg.

  • +6

386+ for a first post! Could this be the most upvoted first post ever?

  • +8

So many votes, did people actually buy anything ?

    • +4

This is the most upvoted deal without even a single purchase…

      OzBargain members, you disappoint.

  • +4

As always the case with ozbargain and new posts, all hype and yet no real deals here.

  • Are there any problems with electricity buying a notebook from the US?

    • +1

Nope. I'm quite certain there are no normal laptop PSUs that aren't 100-240V.

  • how's their return policy?

  • +1

I've been comparing Newegg, Amazon and B&H for various 17.3" laptops and B&H is consistently winning.

    • Yea B&H is pretty decent, the only area they lack is delivery costs.

    • For what it's worth, the company i work for bought a higher-end Canon camera from B&H that was WAY cheaper than buying locally. I had never heard of them before that.

Another thing i thought was interesting was the Huge amount of real estate they have for their store in NYC

    • I can't find any 17.3" laptops at Newegg that they will ship to Australia. If I specify "Global Eligible" only one comes up and when you go to that it says "Unavailable". Not sure if that is unavailable, out of stock, or unavailable we won't ship. The result is the same.

Hardly any available at Amazon either but B&H seem to ship everything.

      • Need to wait a bit longer before they make available their complete catalog of products.

  • Anyone know if there are any bargains for graphics card on newegg. Looking to spend roughly $250-$300.

Sorry I'm a noob when it comes to computers.

    Thanks!

    • Their global GPU list is lacking and uncompetitive. Best to get it from your local MSY, Umart etc. or wait for an Ozbargain special.

    • The XFX 280X Double Dissipation @ $319 is probably your best bet when it comes on sale again.

  • I only wish Newegg sold DVD/Blu-ray movies like Amazon and B&N does.

  • +5

Most of the stuff is not available and if they are available, the postage cost is ridiculous. No deal.

  • Is the iPhone 5s for $700 worth buying?

    • +6

      No.

    • buy a nexus 5 for $400

I did, flogs my OLD 5S any day

  • this is so effing epic!! :)

    • +4

I was excited at this news too, but so far I can't find much to be excited about, price-wise and availability-wise.

    • oops, double comment.

  • Crucial m500 480GB now A$244 delivered ex Amazon…. About $40 less than newegg.

    http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-2-5-Inch-adapter-Internal-CT48…

  • A lot of people a quick to whine and complain about lack of "deals", but did you actually look for longer than 5 seconds? The concern for warranty/DOA issues is valid though, especially since they require an RMA within 7 days of delivery and the standard shipping eta is 4-7 days.

Anyway, found they have $409 inc shipping for 2x 4TB HGST NAS drives vs $500 from anywhere in AU, before shipping. Would only worry about their quality of packaging so will wait for other people's experiences to roll in.

Australia tax added e.g.LG HBS-730 is $US59.99 to USA but changes to $US79.99 in cart when country of order changed to Australia.
