  • Sucked me in rep. We'll see how it goes. Will have to get my goods delivered to work though. (As you don't deliver to my suburb).
BTW: How big is the box / delivery roughly? Thanks!
    :)

    • +1

      Thanks for giving us a try. The box is (L) 385mm x (W) 335mm x (H) 215mm.
There will be a plain brown recycled cardboard outer box and then a printed recycled inner box that you can even use to store things if you prefer not to throw it away.

      • +3

i'm going to join just for the box!

All the other goodies are just a bonus

      • For people wanting to receive deliveries when not home you could try this doo dah - $329. Basically a drop box at your house for couriers. It's scannable and trackable. Pretty expensive, but a nifty idea.

        http://www.bunnings.com.au/pakman-sand-parcel-delivery-box-_…

I have effectively got the same system without the tracking by screwing a mid sized galvanised toolbox to the wall on my verandah (the type that has a catch built in - no padlock). Courier puts parcel in, then turns the catch which locks it. You just need to sign an 'authority to leave' form with any courier firm that might serve you so they have permsiion to do it. It's a one delivery option though.

Just signed up - thank you for a novel offer - I wish you every success in your new venture.

I've been a member here for a short while but been using Ozbargain for several years as it a great source of new opportunities and ideas (and mostly at a bargain price). Your business model is exactly that for me - an opportunity to try new things I never knew existed for a relatively tiny fee.

One of the things that has dissuaded me from posting bargains on here is the negativity a lot these deals bring. Unless it's "everything for nothing", some people always seem to take issue, nitpicking at the most inane details. While I am all for accuracy, the comments earlier arguing over the cost of each item are unhelpful. The people you are aiming this service at are the people who would know looking at your list of items what the value of those is to them. I personally couldn't give a hoot if the jam was worth $4 or $4.99. I know that overall I'm getting a good deal as I will otherwise have bought at least $5 worth of the stuff in your box.

Don't be put off by the negativity in these comments. I don't think some of the members on this site realise what they are missing out on (in terms of people choosing not to post a deal because of the risk they will be abused because their deal doesn't suit some people).

Not every deal will appeal to everyone. If this doesn't appeal to you and you cannot see value in it for yourself, let it go, move on and find something that does appeal and holds value in your eyes.

Having started two businesses myself in the past I know how very difficult it can be. Hang in there, you have a great idea and judging by the professional approach you are taking (great website, great presentation, active in this comment thread), you have every chance of success - the only unknown at this stage is the execution. Get that right and I'll be a customer for a long time.

I just had to get that off my chest - I really feel for some of these bargain posters. I, for one, am grateful for the time they take to post these!

    • +2

Thanks for your lovely message macfudge and thanks for you kind words of encouragement.
I am quite new to this deal site but have found all the feedback really interesting and most of it very helpful. Not everyone is ever going to like the same things in this world which is great because it makes life more interesting that way :)
Good on you for starting two businesses. It is tough but it is also very rewarding. Being able to communicate directly with our customers and hearing their ideas and suggestions is a great opportunity for us to improve our service so I'm willing to cop a few knocks in the process! - it is worth it.
Thanks for giving us a go. We have a great partner who will be helping us to ensure the execution does not let our customers down so I look forward to staying on as a customer for a very long time :)

    • If you're referring to me, I wasn't being negative. Negs are nothing, but if the twit that negged above would have realised that had they read the post, assuming they're literate. ;-p

The point I was making is, nearly none of the items suited me either, yet I was still interested… and if someone wasn't interested, then the answer is simple - don't join. As I said, $5 wouldn't cover postage on the empty box.

  • What are product offering in future months? examples (not really bothered by brand)

    • Hi hahaboy, I actually don't even know myself yet as we work with top grocery brands who often keep their product launches secret until quite close to the time that they hit the supermarket shelves. The focus of our monthly subscription box is packaged food and general household products that you can buy in your local supermarket so the range will be varied and different every month so there is something for the whole family. Plus, the surprise of finding out what is in the box only when you open it is part of the fun!

      • +1

You're certainly brave, placing yourself at the mercy of manufacturers to provide you with new products. What happens if they don't give you any new items that month… do you stockpile items (only send out a percentage), in case there's no items to send out the next month?

  • Got me for a $50 sub. Interested to see how it turns out!

    • Thanks j4ck!

  • I'm in. I like surprise deliveries.

    • Me too :) Thanks for joining!

  • +1

bit late to the party, but do your couriers deliver to the Australia Post Parcel lockers ?

    • +1

Hi Conio, we use Fastway Couriers for our deliveries so I am not sure actually. I will find out and let you know. I think other companies can use the Aus Post lockers but let me check to be sure.

    • Depends on the post office, officially the items should be returned, some may be nice however.

  • It knows about Springvale South, but doesn't allow to enter Springvale as the suburb in the address. Stupid validation in the web site. It doesn't allow me to enter the address and proceed.
Have to give it a miss :(

Hey Rep, can you fix this in your web site?

    • +4

      Comptuer is smart, computer knows Springvale is a w a s t e l a n d, not a suburb.
      (kidding)

    • Hi there,
Try just typing you street number and the start of your address name and wait a few seconds for the address validation to give you options of addresses that you can choose from. Just select your address from the drop down menu of options and it will auto populate the address for you so you don't need to enter in the suburb name, that will be done automatically.
      Hope that helps.

      • Do you have option to refer a friend ?if yes any benefit for referral?

        • Hi John,
We don't currently have a refer a friend program but thanks for asking as it is something we should consider.

      • Is there a reason some suburbs don't show up in the validation thing? (like rmamila said)

        • I think it he issue happens when the address options don't load quick enough so instead of having the Aust Post addresses show up as you type something like 63 Hall….and it automatically suggests 63 Hall St Bondi Beach, the person writes 63 Hall street and then the address validation doesn't work.
I will speak to the company who owns the data validation software and see what can be done to avoid this problem for our customers.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

        • Thanks for forwarding the concern.
edit: My suburb now shows up. :)

      • Even though I couldn't complete my registration it creates the account when you go pass the first page. So I had to login using the email to process again.

When I just enter pl instead of place it managed to find my address. I completed the registration. Thanks. Fingers crossed until I receive the surprise package.

  • +2

Thank you rep, I'm in! Sign up was quick and easy. Looking forward to my monthly surprise being something other than my period!

    • Haha ;) Thanks so much for joining!

    • Thanks for sharing that with us all.

  • +3

I really like the concept, but I am not going to sign up in the end, because after careful consideration of your privacy policy it looks like it's going to end up being a spam magnet - 3rd parties will use you to harvest e-mail addresses and spam your client base. I hope that the brands don't damage your product by abusing that.

All the best to you and good luck in your venture. If you ever decide to close off that option (assuming it isn't a core revenue stream) then I'd love to know.

    • +1

Keep your primary email address for use by your most trusted contacts. Create an extra email address for use by others, such as Redpawpaw. If it gets flooded with spam, just close it and create another.

      • -1

All good in theory, and I actually do have something like this set up - I have a "general use" e-mail address that I use to sign up for online services where I can simply unsubscribe, BUT I will never subscribe to a site that on-sells my details, because there is effectively no way of stopping your address from circulating, and you'll keep receiving e-mails from more and more places.

Otherwise, for the strategy to work, it would require you to have a separate e-mail address for every service that you sign up for and that's just not feasible (for example I already have 300+ entries in LastPass, and that's just for the sites I want to have accounts with).

    • +1

Thanks for bringing it to my attention zzyss. I have no intention at all to spam anyone because everyone hates that and I want our subscribers to love their Redpawpaw experience.
I will review the policy and tighten it up if necessary.
Thanks for your good wishes, much appreciated.

      • +1

Don't get me wrong - it's not spam from you that I'm worried about. It's who you give my details to that concerns me. If it ever ends up in the hands of a remarketer, list service, or unscrupulous brand (e.g. a Unilever, who will take your address from one of their brands, and use it across all of their other brands).

        • That's a good point. Before signing up I would like to know what companies will you be sharing my email address or personal details with Redpawpaw.

  • Hi,
Looks really interesting but I keep getting a message on my phone not to trust the security of the site every time I try to look at it…..is anyone else having this problem still?
    Thanks

    • Hi there, sorry to hear that. We have a SSL certificate on our site so security is assured. Are you going to this site? https://www.redpawpaw.com.au/
You could also try accessing the site from a desktop or laptop and see if the issue goes away.

      • Posted wrong place - see below.

    • I get the same problem with firefox 28.0 :/

  • Hi Store Rep, do you have to sign up before you know if they cover your postcode? can you check before you give personal info for nothing?

    • Hi back,
Yes you can. Just go to our FAQs page (link on bottom on website or click here https://www.redpawpaw.com.au/faq?tab=Delivery-link)
In the delivery section we have a link to a spreadsheet which has all the postcodes we currently deliver to.
      Hope that helps.

      • Just for your info, Firefox is warning me of the site's security cert. at that link too.

Just a thought, and I realise your biz model is getting the manufacturers to supply new products for free, and in return they get feedback, with redpawpaw basically joining the user to the seller.. great model and good luck, but just a thought, I used to be in the buying team for Woolworths, and i know how manufacturers think, in order to boost subscription rates, I am wondering if you are able to get the manufacturers to also include other products they might have just to fill out the box, I am talking about products that they might have an oversupply / glut of, and as they are already delivering (or you are picking up) their new samples, there is no extra delivery costs.. or maybe if not a glut, they also sometimes have themed products (i.e. 'olympic' themed packaging that can't really be sold in major retailers, still viable product, but need somewhere to 'dump' the product.. I personally know suppliers that have landfilled perfectly good products because the hassle of finding someone to 'offload' the goods to is simply too much effort..
Anyway, just a thought… it would mean you could have 'box fillers' and also keep your customers happy..
again, great model, I wish you all the best, and yes, will be signing up!!

      Hi Krispy,
Thank you so much for you great suggestion, it was very kind of you to take the time to send it to me.
While we do focus on newly launched products, there is certainly an opportunity for manufacturers / brand owners to sample existing products to our subscribers because sometimes it can be beneficial to remind people of the great products that are out there that they might not have tried to ages. And definitely if there is excess stock it would be better to sample to subscribers than for it to end up as landfill. I used to work for a chocolate company and they often were forced to send pallets of chocolate to landfill because they weren't able to sell it. Can you believe it? Chocolate in landfill?! Would love for some of that product to end up in our subscribers' monthly boxes before it gets to that point.
Thanks again for your message, sounds like you have lots of experience in the grocery industry :)

      • Just read this - that's scandalous! Chocolate in landfill!! Geez, I'd have arrange for a diversion of the trucks to my place if I worked there.

  • Please Add Ferntree Gully 3156

    • Hi jaybot,
We definitely deliver to Ferntree Gully so it must be an issue with the data validation software.
Please see my reply to Sage above and see if that helps. Just type you house / apartment number and start typing your street name and see if your address appears in the drop down box. If it does then click on it and then your suburb will auto fill and you should not have any further issues. Hope that works for you!

  • not really able to subscribe..is anyone else having the issues?
i clicked on cubscibe & it again takes me back to teh same page… no form nothing

    • Hi coolheaded,
It could be the internet browser you are using as some older versions don't work as well with certain websites. You could try downloading the Google Chrome browser (which is great!) and I'm sure it will work much better for you and may help improve the performance of other websites for you also. Hope that helps!

  • Great it looks like my postcode is included, thanks will be signing up

    • :o)

Rep can I change from the monthly $5 trial & survey to the annual $50 trial & survey if I find Iam happy with goods say after a 1-2 mth period?

    • +1

      Hi itajac,
Yes you sure can. All you need to do is log in to your account, go to Manage Settings, and click the EDIT link next to your subscription and choose the annual package from the dropdown menu. The annual fee will then be charged at your next renewal date and you will no longer be charged the monthly fee.

  • Hi Rep:
I noticed when signing up that the credit card number field is coded as a password. This can be problematic for people on computers as it will give them the option to "store their password" which than anyone can access if they click accept. For instance, I'm on a work computer so if I hit accept, someone later could jump on the computer and dig up my credit card number.

Might want to send a heads up over to your tech team and ask them to edit it.

Also, my mother was not overyly happy about being in the same age bracket as my grandmother (both 60+). Then again, that's what they get for being old. :-)

    • I don't like survey/etc sites asking that. Like if I'm over 40 I'm not a consumer anymore!? It's irrelvant really, because we had kids late. So we have ages right through the range from toddler to high school leaver. So we're buying products right across all age ranges. It makes you think if you're over 30 (and don't lie about your age), all you'll receive is samples for contact lens cleaner, adult incontinence nappies, and that dreaded vaginal moisturiser that was listed on here a few months ago. ;-p

      • +1

        Hi there realfamily man,
When you create a profile on Redpawpaw you not only pick a little avatar (Redpawpaw person!) to represent yourself but also on to represent each member of your family and so that way we will know whether to send you kids / baby / teen / and even pet products. So it won't be just a box full of incontinence nappies I promise!

        • :-)

    • +1

      Hi azshade,
Thanks for picking that up, I will definitely let our developers know about that and get them to fix it straight away. I will post back here again once I have a response from them about this.

I'm sorry to hear that your mum was a bit disappointed to be in the senior adult category - I can understand, I am only a year out of moving into the mature adult category and I'm not ready to become mature just yet! ;o)

  • Regardless of the few complaints by people on actual value and what's included - this is really cheap for what you do get.

I just want this put over my fence but can't give delivery instruction on your site. I have one courier who is not so smart and doesn't understand unit 2 is not the first house knocks on my neighbors house and cards me to pick up an hour away.

    • after reading, its the courier you use :(
    • +1

Oh no, that's not good news. I have already made a note to ask our developers to add a delivery instruction field to our shipping address page so you will be able to add a note for the delivery person in future.

The online Q & A here is Brilliant, with 'StoreRep' very much 'on the ball'. Maybe their website will have to refer to the ozbargain link for Q & A !! He He!

    • +1

Haha thanks peck! Not a bad idea at all ;)

  • +1

hi was just signing up and wonder if everyone is signing up for one month or for the whole year. if the company doesn't make a year, for some unknown reason then I guess it would be safer to sign up for monthly? what does Ozbargain think

  • I'm willing to give Redpawpaw a go, so have signed up for a year, as I like samples! Sometimes you get a few things you might not have tried, or things you use anyway, but half the fun will be with the kids checking out what is in the box and that is $5 a month value anyway compared to some of the rubbish things the kids get me to buy! If things go bad, perhaps I am down some part of my $50, and such is life, but I have probably saved that in other Ozbargain deals anyway. Good luck Rep - I hope the suppliers give you some love and you get us a few boxes of interesting goodies!

    • Thanks very much espcookie, I hope they do too! I'm sure the boxes will get better and better once more suppliers hear about us and know they can get their samples out to all our subscribers easily and also get some valuable feedback back as well.
I will be doing everything I can to make sure the box is amazing value every month so all our subscribers feel like they are getting a great deal for their subscription fee. Thanks for giving us a try!

  • Says you deliver to Newcastle area, yet (in a search via https://www.redpawpaw.com.au/faq?tab=Delivery-link) our postcodes don't show?

    • I'm from Lambton and it worked for me just fine. Try tying in your suburb I think they're having problems with the postcodes.

      • Thank you azshade!

  • Will there be a difference between a Male Basket and a Female Basket, sent on the 15th April 2014?

    • Hi ianyelts,
The first Redpawpaw box goes out in May.
Both the male and the female boxes get the food and household items, it is only if there is a specific male or female product such as Rexona for Men that the boxes will differ.
For the first box the male and the female versions will be quite similar but that won't always be the case.

  • You need to start replying to

    [email protected]

I sent an email to it and it got ignored.

If you can't service this email account, please remove it!

    • +1

      Hi ianyelts,
I am very sorry to hear that you did not receive a reply to your email.
I definitely service the [email protected] address, as I often get over 50 emails per day to it.
I can't explain what happened on this occasion so please accept my sincere apology.

  • have joined today and looking forward to the first box :-)

    • Thanks for subscribing hsk! :)

  • is there an April box? or does it start in May, bit confused, and as I have signed up for the $50 offer for the year, wonder if there is a friend referral link of any kind, to offer me a bonus of some sort if I post it on my facebook page? thanks

    • -2

      No, there are no referrals.

      And

The first box will apparently be sent on 15th JUNE 2014, last I heard.

She will only send the boxes then.

Assuming she hasn't run off with our money?!
(It's happened with other businesses before)

      • +1

The first box will apparently be sent on 15th JUNE 2014

At that date, you wont be able to make a chargeback on you CC (60 days from purchace) or paypal claim (45 days from purchace)

      • Hi again ianyelts,

The first Redpawpaw box will be sent out by mid May, then again by the middle of every month after that. We sent an update email with a timeline of delivery to all subscribers yesterday.

I definitely haven't run off with everyone's money! Sorry I am a novice to OzBargain and didn't realise that there were new posts to be answered.

Hope you are having a great long weekend.

        • +1

didn't realise that there were new posts to be answered.

If you subscribe (see button up the top) to the deal then you will receive an email advising of new posts.

        • Thanks Roughana, have subscribed now so I don't miss any more new posts! :)

    • Hi bsk,
The first Redpawpaw box will be sent out by mid May but depending on where you live you may receive it as early as 10th May.
We don't yet have a referral system but please send me an email to [email protected] and I would be happy to work something out with you.

  • I just contacted them and they are saying May for the first box? Now I am wondering about your comment of run off with your money? it is a worry

    • i was sus as soon as i saw the "fake" feedback. no way i would have paid up front for something that may or may not be delivered in months time from a new company no one knows. there is just no legit reason to ask for payment for something thats at least a month away. plus no paypal safety…

      • +1

Well there is at least one legit reason I can think of. To make sure all parcels are packed, sealed, and labelled ready to dispatch on the same day, in order to qualify for the bulk postage discount that is probably part of the business model.

    • Sorry for worrying you bsk but I am not running off with anyone's money. The products are being sent into our warehouse by our brand owners next week and we will be picking and packing everyone's boxes starting the first week in May.
Everyone will receive their boxes by mid May.

  • You should re-read the whole thread again. You've obviously missed important information.
    -First delivery in May
    -Feedback was from beta-testers

    • -Feedback was apparently from beta-testers, but there is no evidence of this

unless you have some proof otherwise?

which still dosnt add up to me. if its only from beta testers and the boxes change what weight does that hold for the "real" sample boxes? pretty much zero. also they can get one box organised months ago apparently but it takes months more to get the next one? yet they are meant to be able to keep up later on with there one box a month?

im not saying OP is dodgy, just simply there are way to many things that dont sound right to me which was why i never considered going for it.

      • unless you have some proof otherwise?

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139078#comment-1916598

        • lets hypothesise that the rep is in fact dodgy, and the only "evidence" you have is the rep saying "nah its ok, im heaps legit"…. does that then make them actually legit? lol

        • So what's so different between this and putting in an order for any merchandise that needs delivery from any new company? At some point you have to trust the merchant.
If you don't get what you paid for, then (and only then) can you complain about it and let others know.
Stop trashing it without any basis for doing so.

      • I'd say that the benefit of the doubt is with the rep here, since "a select group of consumers" could easily just be a few mates, which doesn't lend any credibility to the product, but is far from being "made up" or even "lies". In fact, I'd even go so far as to say it's standard marketing operating procedure for small businesses and startups.

        • Hi zzyss,

Thanks for your comments. You are spot on. The test run was just to get some feedback and test our processes.

I am certainly looking forward to our subscribers receiving their first box in May. We are just a startup business and so I understand everyone's nervousness but I'm sure that our subscribers will feel much better once they have their first box in their hands so they can try the products and look forward to receiving the next one :)

  • Lets just wait and see, this thread might get interesting :)

  • Anyone actually heard from these people ? I signed up and heard nothing as yet about any launch date, the site comes up as "untrusted" and no reply to any emails. Is it me being a little suss after one too many "Today Tonight" episodes..or does this thing smell like a scam ?

i would have thought after the last lot of posts just above they would have poped on to at least say everything was still ok and reassuring people there is nothing to worry about?

      • Hi there nosdan,

You are right and I apologise, I am a novice to OzBargain and didn't realise that these posts continue for so long.

I will make sure I pop back every couple of days from now on as I feel bad for not replying to the message over the Easter break and this week.

There definitely isn't anything to worry about and we are on track to deliver the first box to all our subscribers by Mid May.

cool thanks for popping back in. im sure you have just put a lot of peoples minds to rest.

FYI at the top of the comments theres a"subscribe" button, click that and any time someone replies to a topic your subscribed to you get an email from OzB letting you know. theres also an option somewhere in the options that you can set it to automatically subscribe to any topic you make/comment on which may be more suited to you being a rep
