So if anyone is wonder WTF this is about….

They sell International mobile data plans (using Optus in Oz) on the cheap.
The $9/mth plan gives you 1Gb to use in Aust, US, UK & Ireland
Plus they have PAYG plans charged per MB.

Thanks for that, forgot the essential I suppose

1GB of data to use in the US for $9/month. That's amazingly cheap.

unused credit will be rolled over at the end of each billing month until exhausted

I wonder if I can cancel after the first month and keep the $30 in my account until next time I want to use sim?

So you pay $2 for the sim card, $2 for sim card delivery, $9 for 1GB for the first month ($13 total), then get $30 credit to spend on any other plan. Either another 3 months of 1GB/month or 1 month of 3GB or 5GB.

That would be $13 for 4 months at 1GB/month ($3.25/month) OR
$13 for 2 months with first month at 1GB then second month at 5GB for the countries listed in red (Australia, Ireland, UK, US)

Or have 300MB/150MB to spend in various countries around the world after the first month.

  • i have one of these and got an email the other day saying my $9 a month for 1GB i can now use in AU, UK and the US. so cheap for a month by month plan.
Coverage here is through Optus and i have had no troubles.

  • Apparently you can buy these at Big W or Dick Smith. That can save you the delivery fee and it also takes 5 business days to receive sim. The $30 deal is applicable to that as based on activation.

      Sounds like a GREAT deal!!!

  • Perfect timing… 10 and 20 cents a minute in other european countries

  • I had very bad experience with this company, beware!

I got pro-rata charge from the activation day , they have a set billing period, NOT according to your activation date.

If you are thinking activate the card before you go and cancel the service within 30 days you are only paying one month ?
NO, you will pay lot more than that.

Be careful !!!! you have been warned.

    • From the FAQ:

      • What can I expect on my first bill?

Your first bill from Globalgig will show receipt of your first month’s mobile broadband plan charge which you paid when you activated your service. It also includes a pro-rata amount for the number of days you were connected prior to your set Monthly Bill Day, your next month’s mobile broadband plan charge and any excess usage in the pro-rata period.

This means, if you join today and your first bill is due to be issued 5 days from now, you’ll see a part-charge for your monthly plan charge for the first 5 days.

Your bill will also include any excess per MB usage or any pay-as-you-go usage for the pro-rata period.

      • Pro rata billing

Pro rata billing means that your plan is billed in proportion to the number of days it’s been connected. It’s used whenever your plan or included mobile broadband allowance hasn’t been connected for the full month of your billing cycle.

Pro rata charges are calculated by dividing the cost of your plan by the number of days in the full billing cycle and then multiplying this by the number of days connected to the plan.

But it doesn't say when monthly bills are issued. I assume it goes month to month?

So if I activate April 15, $9 plan, 30 days in April. If I understand this, then I would be charged:

$9 (1 month bill in advance for month of May) + $4.50 (pro rata from April 15-May 1) and only have 500MB to use in April.

      Does that sound right?

  • Work out the numbers —-Their way!

  • No itemlised bill, they deducted my credit any amount they like, asked for a proper invoice with date time that data consumed, never arrived.

I bought a sim used in NZ, for 15 days, used less than 2 MB data for VOIP call, total cost was $19.

Never use them again, their customer service was shocking too.

    • How much VOIP can you do with 2MB ?

      • About 10 minutes call, then I bought a $19 NZ Voda sim with 1 GB data + $500 calls.

    • total cost was $19.

did you choose the 3gb $19 plan?

      • I chose $9 plan, go figure how I got charged $19 altogether + sim cost.

  • I never had a problem. True, you dont see youe expenses itemized, but ANDROID had a pretty exact data usage indication.

    • What are your billing dates in relation to when you activated?

    • Iphone usage showing the Voip App consumation too, but the charge never match the amount used.

  • The plans are 1mth contract, correct? So can I choose to cancel at the end of 2nd month (if 30days notice) when I used up the $30 credit?

  • Just to update. Bought the sim and used it for a month with no major issues.

However, if you cancel/stop your plan, you won't be able to re-enable it again. You have to buy another $2 sim card. Thus once you cancel, your $30 of credit won't be available.
