Bonds are great. If you don't own some, here's your chance. Feels like you're wearing, nothing at all!

  • Harris Scarfes have there hoodies and jumpers on special also, nearly 50%.

I avoid Bonds now, a few years ago they closed seven Australian factories costing nearly 2,000 Aussie jobs.

    Bonds = Made in China

There are actually more Australian Made options than you may think. For one there is Tuffys and Tuffetts, set up by former Bonds employees that lost their jobs(1). For the men there is always aussieBum, also Australian Made. And… Tommyrough.

I up voted you but it seems we have a few members loyal to their home country on here :/, I can prove this by counting the neg votes members gain when criticising China, so neg away :)

On the subject of bonds products I have found the quality of material lacking in recent years and have changed brand.

      • -1

I think that's a bit presumptuous on your part.
Bargain4U could just have well said 'Bonds = Made overseas/offshore' or 'Bonds = Not made locally/in Australia' - I don't see what was gained from his message by explicitly stating the country where Bonds products are made now. It just seems a bit disingenuous.

      • +3

Its basic economics unfortunately. Australia really shouldn't have a competitive mass scale textile industry, same goes for vehicle manufacturing.

nothing wrong with made in china. i think we are passed that made in china = bad quality phase. most of the top quality brands are made in china. it also doesn't mean you should classify oz bargainers who don't agree with the above statement to be Chinese. Xenophobic much?

I appreciate the hint. I do not like aussiebum's advertising campaign at all and hope that their management go to a special place in hell, but I am going to check out these Tuffy's guys for the next time I buy some undies. They aren't cheap, but it is Australian made and that's enough reason to shell out a few more bucks. I just bought some Frank and Beans off eBay in super ozbargain style for $33, but Australian made means a lot. The next job they lay off could be yours, remember that ozbargainers!

The Chinese employ me and and thousands of other Australians. They buy services and products from our country and we buy the same from them. They bring millions of dollars to our universities and this creates jobs for Australians. If the Chinese took the same attitude of "only buy chinese services and products" many Australians would be out of a job. Therefore, I believe your argument is invalid.

By the way, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing something branded as "aussiebum". What a pathetic marketing fail. So crass and filthy.

      • +1

@Wonderman - Crass unlike the BONDS IS FOR BOOBS campaign?

I also see that the Bonds quality has gone down recently but their hipster underwear here is 3 pairs for $6.

      3 pairs for $6!

Your Australian brands are super expensive, Aussiebum are $18 each and the name is unbuyable, no way would I be seen in the gym shower room with Aussiebum emblazoned on my undies. Tommyrough only make boxers or jockstraps again expensive.

We should give Aussie products preference but to pay up to ten times more is a joke.

And meanwhile, their prices have gone up, and design keeps changing.
$19 for a pair of chinese/cambodian made boggers is bad value. At half price, I buy a couple of pairs. But they always blow-out in a new area. I really don't think they're "great", even at 50% off. I'll have to try Tradies etc

    holeproof explorers are only $5!!

Awesome. Time to stock up on new socks!

No clue what happened to BONDS but their material quality and stitching work is about as bad as it can possibly get. You'd be better off getting the cheapest of el-cheapo stuff out there for a better quality product.

Even "Rio" or the BigW branded undies/socks are better than BONDS. Still cheaper than them too, even with half price knocked off.

    • $5 for 3 pairs of socks is a bargain dough…

  • +2

Bonds used to be descent quality…now the quality is just ok and on pair with homebrand stuff you buy at the supermarkets…3 pairs for $5 sounds about right

  • +2

I agree with the lack of quality in bonds products now I initially stopped buying them because the quality had dropped then when they say they had to sack Aussie workers to remain viable but if you notice since moving their operation overseas their prices seem to keep going up and up on all their products anyway that's my gripe done time to get off the soapbox and give thanks to the OP.

    • It is called greed

  • Just went to the store at Hurstville NSW and all bonds stock is full price. Their catalogue does not have this deal. Must be QLD only

  • Does anybody know when will this offer expire?

    • Looks like it's a weekly special, so it should be on until next Tuesday. I'd get them as soon as possible though as they are likely to sell out.

For those complaining about poor Chinese quality please be aware that they are producing the Bonds range as per specified by the good people at Pacific Brands. The factory would also be subject to tight quality control scrutiny to meet those standards. Pacific Brands have set lower quality items and higher wholesale prices purposely for larger margins than what were produced in Australia previously.

  • Yay, got my Bonds stuff today at 50% off as advertised. Thanks OP!

  • i can vouch for these. my underwear drawer consists of one and only one pair of black bonds, and ill give it to you straight, theyve lasted over 5 years and theyre still as good as new. in fact im wearing them right now while typing this… :-)

  • Briefs are on the thin side but for $2 each practically disposable. Socks are great, though they always seem to be out of stock of the size 11+
