CLEARANCE $70 - Dirt Devil "FreeTime" Robotic Vacuum (Sweeper) - Bunnings Shellharbour

70

Cheapest ($70) I have seen for a branded robotic vacuum cleaner.

Clearance so might have to check with your local store. Shellharbour store had roughly 20 on hand as of today.

14.4V Robotic Vacuum Cleaner. (Sweeper)

Discretion and caution MUST be exercised when buying any robotic vac for under $100 I guess.

Not coming up on the website.

  • Did you buy one? If so pls post pic of the receipt or pic of the price tag. Ty

  • Sorry, I didn't buy one but I'll try to drop in again today to snap a pic. (Already own a robotic vac)

  • Was $79 normal price at my local Bunnings in northern NSW this morning. But I bought one anyway, bugger it! If I can 'set it and forget it' each time we leave the house and come home to even a slightly cleaner house, it'll be worth the $79. We've got ~70 year old hardwood timber floors through all the non-bedroom rooms, so I'll be interested to see how it goes on them.

    • Yeah, I would be interested to know too. It would be great if you could report how it went.

      • +2

Have used it twice since firing it up yesterday. Initial battery times are fine - it did several sweeps of the three rooms I cordoned it off to (kitchen/dining, living and entrance/hallway). It makes a noise, but I wouldn't say it is noisy, though you wouldn't have it on during dinner or at bed time.

As for its cleaning chops, I'd say it went rather well. The little brushes that sweep the floor got right into the corners under the skirting boards and managed to flick out quite a few paint chips (we're renovating) that our vacuum had obviously missed. The Dirt Devil did not always pick these paint chips up, so it meant there was a small trail of mess in some areas where it had flicked those paint chips into a neat line near the skirting board along its trajectory. When we attached the sweeper module, I thought it did an admiral job of making the floor look like we don't have a dog and don't trudge around in shoes all the time.

As for its mobility, it didn't get stuck on anything. It worked its way neatly around the place while cycling through its 3 modes (random, circular and some other thing), getting into most of the corners and under the kitchen workbench and various cupboards. For our old house, its bump-change-trajectory method of path finding was more than adequate, and not a danger to anything.

There are one or two negatives that stand out to me this early on, and they're related to each other. The filter that traps everything it sucks up, fills up quite quickly, and related to this, it doesn't do a great job of unblocking itself. That is, if you have a bunch of pet hair, the opening to the filter will grab all the pet hair, then the unit will say its trap is full, even though it is only debris caught in the opening. However, on close inspection I think this is something that could be modded (there is a small plastic flap over the opening, for example), but I'll look at that at a later time.

All in all, I think $70 is the correct amount to pay for it. It isn't going to replace a giving your house a decent vacuum once in awhile, nor will it overcome dog footprints. But when I go to cricket training on Monday afternoon, I am happy to turn this guy on and leave the house, knowing it'll be a slightly cleaner house when I return.
