  • Looks like proper cast iron, but the description says it is aluminium & teflon. Probably very thin.

Oh nice will make cooking steak on the electric cooker (we dont have gas) much easier!

    • Agreed with the electric cooker. Any tips of keeping meat juice in the pan (for steak) at a minimum?

Any tips of keeping meat juice in the pan (for steak) at a minimum?

If your electric cooker is too weak, use a smaller pan and less meat at once.
Get a heavier pan and pre-heat, so escaping juice is boiled off.
(The idea that searing somehow "seals in" the moisture is a myth.)
Don't use meat that has been frozen. Don't overcook - rare is best.

best answer: buy a portable gas cooker.

        • Good thoughts. I think I broke a stack of rules (due to rushing a lot of my cooking due to impatience and hunger) where I tend to put a lot of meat in the pan, sometimes semi frozen.

How rare the meat is, is surely dependent on the person eating it.

if you are running on electric, time to go induction.

      • I have tried induction and enjoyed the timer and temperature options. Maybe it was the particular cooker I had (New Wave) which really annoyed me on several levels. Specifically the controlling of the temperature and turning itself on and off randomly (super dangerous). I used it for about 2 years.

        • not sure what you meant by turning itself on/off randomly … in the duration of cooking, yes, it's supposed to do that as it's not always a constant stream of 'heating'.

if thats not the case, if you meant that 'on/off' is when you are not doing anything, then you probably have a lemon.

on the bright side, it's not as dangerous as an conventional electric hob… there's no heat when you turn it on accidentally (the heat on the induction stove is a byproduct of the heat from the pot not from the stove itself) . The only danger is if you unintentionally have something that is ferrous on top of the stove when it's on. Then it will be heated.

i love boiling water and cooking stew with induction… I can set it, and somewhat forget about it.. without risk of starting a fire from a boil over or when it's heated till dry.

Just some thoughts on this sort of pan, I recalled about 4-5 years ago, they had a full cast iron pan for about $10.

You'd really want this style of pan really HOT to get those nice lines on your meat. So I imagine non-stick ones may not be so ideal…

  • I just uses a cast iron griddle pan from a camping store. Was pretty cheap from memory. After it is "seasoned" it is very non stick and works great. When watching "Good Eats" by Alton Brown he also recommended a camping store griddle.

    Don't buy cheap, thin pans.
Definitely don't buy non-stick grilling pans.

    Cast iron, people.

The only benefit of this pan that I can think of is that it won't do too much damage when you get home drunk and your wife hits you upside the head with it.

  • Sounds good price, but wondering why they take a picture of the back of the pan? Or I have some problem with my eyes?

EDITED: Have another serious look, and proved that it is definitely my eye problem :P

  • Delivery possible?

  • Question…Can this be put into the oven?

  • I predict there will be limited stock?! I still remember last time I wasted so much petrol on the cutlery.
