    Damn only 100HZ :(

    • +2

Can you really get 200HZ at this price?

      • +3

Get plasma and you don't have to worry about it. Better image too. The best still trump 4k LCD too.

        • +1

I prefer plasma… the motion compensation stuff I find jarring especially the sudden acceleration of movies I've seen on a 100/120/200hz tvs… just changes the movie I don't know why anyone would want that motion compensation stuff… maybe for the footy and then switch it off when a movie comes on.. or something.

      • Not but i currently have a 100hz LG 3D and wish i bought a 200hz as it does have some lag.

      • Hz is kind of a remnant of CRT technology, you can now buy display monitors that have gsync hz but I don't think its in any display TVs yet.
        http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/interna…

      • I picked up the series 7 55" last week for 1850

This will now be the default reply to these mind numbing comments about hz -

Using FTA as an example, it is broadcast at 50Hz..
Panels with refresh rates >50Hz will use motion processing 'magic' to 'create' additional frames to increase the number of frames in the video..
      For example 50Hz = 50 frames/sec..lets take frames 1 and 2
a 100Hz TV for example will see frames 1 and 2 and calculate what it thinks has changed/moved between frames 1 and 2 and insert a new frame with this info in-between frames 1 and 2..
      - So a 50Hz TV will show the broadcast 50 frames in one second as frames 1,2,3,4….50
      - A 100hz TV will show the broadcast 50 frames as well as 50 it has 'made up' in one second as frames 1,1a,2,2a,3,3a…..50,50a
So 1/2 the stuff you see wasn't broadcast, it was 'calculated'/'derived'

It is essentially an attempt at 'smoothing' out the motion. Some people like it, some people hate it. Some think it looks smoother, some think it looks very artificial..(and many people disable motion processing on their new 100Hz/200Hz/etc LEC/LCD's removing much of the 'Hz' hype anyway)

In general just because a TV is 100Hz v 50Hz does not make the 100Hz automatically better as other aspects such as colour gamut, black levels etc can all make a much larger impact on picture quality.

If it looks good to your eyes showing FTA, thats all the matters… who cares if it looks better showing Avatar if you spend 99% of your time watching FTA and downloaded TV shows.

        Thanks ;)

      • i had an older samsung with some sort of motion view that increased the hz, but it was not very good. it made a smoothen effect in the picture however the frames it created in between looked distorted and created 'artefacts'

        • +2

You've almost got more + for reposting that than I got when I originally posted it…
          Sharing the +'s around ;-)

        • Yeah sorry about that, next time I'll give you a bit more time to do it.
Hopefully some people will follow the link and give your original post some more votes to get you over 30.

      • A 100hz TV will show the broadcast 50 frames as well as 50 it has 'made up' in one second…

Given that this is a 'smart' TV, there's a possibility that it will become self-aware & just make up whatever frames it likes to insert, i.e. robot pr0n! :p

        (insert joke disclaimer here)

      • Very true,
But when playing 3D the TV has to display two frames for every movie frame (with a different polarisation if passive) - this essentially halves the viewing frame-rate so that a 100Hz tv appears 50Hz when in 3D. As an extension 200Hz appears as 100Hz in 3D mode.

I can definitely tell the difference between 50Hz and 100Hz in 2D so it is important to some.

        • +2

I can definitely tell the difference between 50Hz and 100Hz in 2D so it is important to some.

being able to tell the difference doesn't mean its necessarily an improvement though…

        • +1

being able to tell the difference doesn't mean its necessarily an improvement though…

Spot on! This is precisely the reason why I turn MC off on my TVs…it makes the image look artificial or unnatural.

        • being able to tell the difference doesn't mean its necessarily an improvement though…

But it becomes a necessary purchase.

  • Wow, just wow.
    They keep dropping in price.
(Bought the UA55D7000 model for $1800 2 years ago)

  • +6

Like I said 4K TV's price will become today LED TV's price in a year.

    • +1

      Doubt it.

      • +1

Kogan 55" 4K TV for $999 is coming soon. I say why not. Big players will follow the trend.

        • That's no different than a no name camera selling for $100 saying it has 100 megapixels. Doesn't mean it's any good.

That Kogan TV won't compare to the current Panasonic and Sony 4K.

    • 10 years. But still That's good enough, I'll be happy when I can control computers that I see overlaid on reality with a chip in my brain. When it gets to that point I will be happy to retire.

  • +1

can we do price match at Havey Norman?

  • +3

Samsung's website suggests exclusive models for JB, Harvey Norman, Good Guys. Only seem to have different stands. Their way to limit price matching I suppose.

    • +1

But the stand MAKES the TV viewing experience. If you turn it on it wastes power so I just watch the stand. Honestly that's what I look at when I buy all my TVs.

  • This model is great. Recommended my sister to buy it and she loves it

Top price. Been tracking this for 6months and its the lowest ever. Im tempted to upgrade as well.

  • does anyone know how the samsung model numbers work?

i usually check the cnet top HDTV list to see if any of these cheaper TVs make it on there. On their 55"-59" list, there's two samsungs: UN55F8000 & UN55F6300

i'm assuming the UA vs UN is the country, and the F8000 is the higher series (F8?). trying to work out the difference between F6700 and F6300 though. there also doesnt seem to be a US model of the 6700 either…

    edit: cnet list: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-52-59-inch-tvs/

    • its an Australian Model. Go to the australian samsung website and do a product comparison itll tell you.

        • +1

It was helpful info. While they don't know which models are which but name, they have told you how you can work it out. Do you expect them to do your homework for you?

    • +5

ok so i found some info… it's pretty much the F6400 model.

"The Samsung F6400, F6700 and F6800 are virtually the same with a few tweaks.
The F6700 is exclusive to JB and the F6800 exclusive to Harvey Norman"

Following are the features of the F6400 that differ from the F6300:

      UNF6400 has:
CMR (clear motion rate) rate of 480. This figure gives one an idea about how fast the panel processes fast moving images on screen.
      Has DirecTV Ready feature
Has a black table top stand (the JB F6700 still seems to have the silver X base)
Has active 3D ready capability with 2 pairs of glasses included
      Smartphone remote control App opportunity
F6400 Blue Tooth mouse and keyboard (optional accessory) support with USB
Has Micro Dimming capability which enables the TV through LED edge lit backlighting to increase contrast in certain areas of the screen when the feature is turned on.

      F6300 has:
The F6300 has a silver stand
The F6300 has no 3D compatibility
      The F6300 has a CMR of 240
The F6300 is less expensive due to lack of the features listed above

      • +2

        Samsung CMR
Though Samsung is fantastic at creative marketing ("LED" TV was its thing), it at least doesn't outright call the TVs with the aforementioned tricks "480Hz" refresh. Instead, it has "CMR" or Clear Motion Rate. "Samsung's more comprehensive Clear Motion Rate takes into account all three factors that contribute to motion clarity: panel refresh rate, image processor speed, and backlight technology." In other words, a TV with a CMR of 240 could be a 120Hz panel, with an average processor, and a scanning backlight, or a 60Hz panel, a fancy processor, and a scanning backlight. It's unlikely a TV with a CMR of 240 would be a 240Hz panel, as such an expensive panel would almost certainly come with one or both the other features.
        http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57598032-221/fake-refre…

        • thanks mate.. thats some good info.

for me though - i always turn all this crap off. the 'smooth' motion is so unnatural to my eyes and feels like everything is in fast forward mode.

if it looks good at 60hz (or 50hz) im generally happy. but each to their own of course!

    • +1

      Lol. Seriously.

    • "600Hz" lol

  • -2

Sorry to offend the Samsung fans

High quality images in both Full-HD 2D and HD passive 3D

The TH-L55ET60A features an LED LCD panel with Full-HD picture quality in 2D and HD picture quality in passive 3D. This model boasts dot noise reduction to improve the picture quality of standard definition broadcast content and an amazingly wide 178 degree vertical viewing angle ensuring every seat is the best seat in the house. In addition, the TH-L55ET60A uses 600Hz backlight scan (BLS) (Native 100Hz) technology to ensure great LED LCD picture quality for fast moving action.

    • Is it your personal user experience? I guess not.

      • +1

Not just my opinion, ask any honest decent retailer or truck driver which TV's end up coming back? also known as boomerang's.
Motion flow is terrible and the picture looks kind of fake, worst brand for sport.

        • contrast on the panasonic et60 range is terrible. and also the user interface is a freaking mess. and yes samsung in general have a higher fault rate.. but it dosnt have a bad picture.

  • Looking to buy couple of 3D glasses for this TV, can someone suggest cheaper option please?

  • Techxperts, comparison to the famous Panasonic ST60 please? They are both about the same price.

  • Is this passive or active 3D? Doesn't say on the mobile version of the site.

    • Active

  • I cant find much review out there about this tv…
Hmmm… but I am looking to upgrade my Samsung 38" plasma

  • Thanks OP - trying to decide between this and one of the DSE LG deals:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/131345

I don't really care too much about 3D though. Having said that Samsung seems to have a better rep than LG.

  • +1

pointblank could you let me know once you have decided which to go with and a short why :)
I will keep you posted too.

  • +2

Great price but I'll never buy a Samsung TV again.

My original 50" 3D died in month 13 and they were pricks, refusing to help.

My brother had almost the same thing happen.

I should never have fallen for the price, when I worked at Myer for 5 years Samsung had twice the failure rate of any other brand.

    Just my two cents…

    • +5

I guess everyone will have different experiences. I've currently got 3 x Samsung TVs. The oldest 32" is now pushing 8 years without a hiccup. The 40" LED Smart TV now about 2.5 years on and no dramas. The 22" LED in the bedroom not a problem.

Also had a Top-Loader Samsung Washing Machine that went for a good 6 years with no trouble. Gave it to my sister years back and she's still using it today with no problem. That thing must be 13 years old now and still running fine. Can't complain.

Mother also has the same model washer purchased around the same time and shes still using it.

Have a few other Samsung devices (phone, tablet etc) and never had an issue.

Maybe I am just lucky? Admittedly, I know someone that had a 50" Samsung TV and had problems with it turning on and off by itself. A switch issue. She never bothered to get it fixed under warranty.

Until my Samsung gear starts playing up, I'll keep investing in the brand. It has the least failure rate of any brand of anything I have purchased in the past. Surprised to hear Samsung had twice the failure rate at Myer… Although, a true representation would need to come from global data. Maybe the guy driving the container ship that had the stuff you guys got at your Myer hit the dock a bit hard? :P

      • Samsung tvs are fine… But I stupidly got a samsung fridge. Way too loud.

    • -6

Great to know some learn from purchasing crap products, anything that is Korean is sh#t.

I guess some Samsung people here think Korean made cars Hyundai etc are good too? Ever worked on these rubbish cars and seen the quality of there genuine parts compared to European and Japanese cars?

Some people just don't appreciate quality anymore and favour cheap.

      • Pretty broad generalisation there.
Are Samsung TV's even made in Korea.
You're commenting on a person that has bought them same brand of goods due to being happy with them. Why would they buy anything otherwise?

      • Believe it or not they aren't cheap either given the quality. The money is spent on marketing for appreciating the brand value but ultimately, the quality of products is the core of a brand loyal.

      • I used to have a Samsung TV which lasted nearly twenty years without a drama. I have an old Samsung slider mobile phone and it's still working fine as a backup phone and it's nearly 8 years old. I used to drive a Kia (Korean made) which lasted more than 10 years without a problem. I bought a VW 10 years ago and had to take it to the dealership numerous times for numerous problems and it continued to have problems out of warranty. I also own a Honda which I am not terribly happy with. I do appreciate quality but your overgeneralisation is sickening.

  • I just picked up on from Ballarat, they have only one left so get in if you want it.

What do you guys think of paying for the extra warranty now that Samsungs is down to one year?

    • +5

Don't forget your consumer rights in Australia basically mean that a product should last a reasonable amount of time for the type/quality of product it is. 1 year is not a reasonable life expectancy for a television so if it fails after 12 months you still have an avenue for getting it fixed / replaced.
Apple had to amend their terms and conditions on the Apple Australia site for this reason.
Check out the ACCC website for more info.

      • Yes don't get sucked into this extended warranty for extra $$ unless the extra $$ is a very reasonable (low) amount… and this would just be to save the headaches if you did need to make a warranty claim. A bit harder to do under the consumer rights if you are beyond the stated warranty when you purchase, but it can be done.

Twisti has it right above. If you are paying $1200+ for a TV, I think you'd be able to at least claim 2 year warranty under consumer rights without too much drama I would think.

      • Thanks very much for that

  • So is this TV a good buy on general consesus?

    Is it a bargain?

  • not bad.. i had this TV for a few months now but i find the voice control a bit useless. Picture is fine for a LCD (i prefer plasma) and the feature are pretty good…. media player seems to play most things, you tube and all that work ok… probably could be a little quicker but not that slow really… im just impatient.

  • This selling price is below their current normal cost. They would be using some marketing/backend support to get it to this price level, so this is a great deal!

  • -3

I've got an older Panasonic 50" Plasmsa. Need a small nuclear power plant to run it. Go the LCD and save the big $$$ on electricity.

    • +6

Classic spin. Read reports on the web. Plasma uses $40 or so a year more if used for an average 3-4 hours a day.
Consider how many years it would take to make up the difference as LCD are almost always more expensive. Not to mention inferior to plasma in nearly every comparable way image wise.

      • I calculated my 7 year old Panasonic Plasma uses $350 per year in Electricity. Runs so hot, you can feel the heat on the other side of the wall. Just what you need in a Brisbane summer.
Worst thing is, its Japanese made, two inches thick and will never die so I can justify to the missus getting a new one.

        • $350 per year? Perhaps, investing in a solar panel system would be worth your while.

        • -1

C'mon. Please explain exactly how you managed to calculate this cost.

        • I calculated my 7 year old Panasonic Plasma

According to the manual, my 42-inch Panasonic plasma I bought in 2005 had an "Average use" of 341W (461W for the 50-inch). I dunno what that means. However compared to the 50-inch Panasonic plasma I got this month, the manual states "Normal (Home) mode" is 122W.

If they were using the same metrics, I'd say telling the missus a new one would save you more energy use would be your best course of action.

My 42-inch wouldn't die either. Took a forklift, but it's now in storage. Hopefully it'll go to a good home later.

    • +2

Would happily pay more in electricity to run a superior panel.

Had a Panasonic Plasma, but lost it in that United Warranties fiasco. Ended up replacing it with a Samsung LCD and it's a piece of crap. The input lag and ghosting make it almost useless.

  • Looking for a new TV to wall mount.
Is it as simple as buying a compatible wall mount or are some screens more preferable for wall mounting?

    • +1

This TV (like most TVs these days) are VESA compatible. Look for wallmounts that are VESA compatible and you should be fine.

  • Can't believe i watch this site so much but never cbf registering lol.

Anyway i have been scoping out the Samsung UA40F6700AMXXY 40" TV since release maybe 2 years ago now.
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/samsung/40-full-h…

It was first around $1200, and for last 8 months has been $1096, XMAS went down to $980ish, now its on sale for $700!!
Since its a JB exclusive doubt you'll find it anywhere else cheaper

This is a great price for a good product with so many features.

Although my cons would be that the CMR (Hz) is 100hz and with active 3D i see this being a headache.

    Picking it up tomorrow!

  • Do we have a verdict on this product? An OzBargain or not?

  • Thanks OP, grabbed the 55" today for just over $1200.

    • $1200, how did you pull it off?

I guess I am going to use my 10 X 100 gift cards bought over Christmas and with the free 10 X 30 egift cards from Mastercard, this is a very good deal! $1000 out of pocket for a Samsung 55-inch Full HD Smart 3D LED TV

    • Well done MrDave! I will check out the TV today, quite keen to upgrade my 4 years old plasma

    • I came in intending to get the 50" model, but it started looking small next to all the massive tvs they had placed around it. The guy was keen to sell me the 55" because they have a bigger margin on it, but I didn't quite have enough $$$, so he lowered the price for me.

      • The retailers have a knack of making 40/42-inch panels look absolutely tiny in store.

  • should i get the 50inch for 1098 or the 55inch for $290 dollar more, is that 5inch really important? can you guys give me some advice. which is the better deal

    • If you sit more than 2.5m from it and regularly watch movies, get the bigger one.

    • should i get the 50inch for 1098 or the 55inch for $290 dollar more, is that 5inch really important?

No, it's not. I have a 50" plasma & a 55" LCD, and there's so little practical difference between from a size/viewing perspective that my advice would be to save the $290 for a future TV upgrade! :)

    • +1

Get the 51" Plasma instead for $717 if you care about picture quality.
      http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/samsung-51-130cm-full-hd-pla…
Then build your own HTPC with the money you saved.

  • Thanks OP! We have been waiting for a while now to upgrade our Tv and finally we did it because of you!
Thanks heaps! Cant wait for it to arrive!
    have a good one

  • Thanks for the advice. I m moving to my new place after 2 months should I buy now or wait till the day I move in
I know the deal finish Monday but since tv price drop constantly should I wait .

    • there are many brands available with similar specs for similar prices. Question is do you must have a Samsung?

  • Seems to be sold out almost everywhere… In SA at least.
