$75 Credit When You Switch to Powershop Electricity (VIC/NSW)

150

Came across this "deal" when comparing electricity costs. Rates seem quite competitive (in my area) and is the lowest amongst the "no contract" electricity companies.

To be honest, this has already been mentioned in the forums — https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/124981

Posting this in the hope that people who are thinking of switching can get a $75

Mod: Referral only deal - See powershop wiki here.

Update: Now 3 x $25 credits instead of 1 $75 credit (6/3/19)

Referral Links

Referral: random (355)

Referrer receives $75 credit and referee receives $75 credit on first bill.

Make sure you carefully read the fine print T&C before changing energy providers. People get burned all the time.

    • What is there to get burned? there is no lock-in and the http://yourchoice.vic.gov.au website seems to indicate this is the best choice without any contracts

      • its pretty stupid, it can't be the best deal if there is no price on the website.

        • depends on your postcode. as I said in description it was the cheapest for my usage + postcode + no contract

Mileage will vary between folks, but what prompted me to post this was the $75 bonus when you join them

        • Momentum energy is cheaper, this post is a joke, my negative vote was changed by a mod.

Only available in Victoria. I don't really think this is a bargain, but either way, that should go in the title.

Check the Energy Made Easy website to make sure it's a decent deal

  • I've recently become a customer and can help people out with any questions (or if they need a referral for the $75 credit to you and me). It takes a little bit of getting used to, but is actually quite interesting. Best comparison is to stock trading, given the prices go up and down. Anyway, PM me if you need help or a referral. Thanks!

    • There is only a $50 referral and cannot be used with above deal.

  • what is the price per kilowatt??

Rates depend upon which supplier you are with and the time of year. They change depending on market conditions, i.e. if supply costs fall they fall. But here are the Pricing and Product Info Statements,in the how much does it cost section

I found for me it is about the same as I am currently paying at Red Energy.

I think $75 worth of free electricity with no contract is not bad. And it works out about as cheap as any deal out there. (I built myself a comparison spreadsheet one day.)

I am currently on a contract but will look into it once my current contract ends.

  • I'm IN!

Signed up and now just need a recommendation for Gas as Dodo upped their prices even with a Carbon Tax being repealed, the satisfaction of sticking it to them by changing suppliers is worth more than the $75 in free credit!

    • Same with Red Energy - looks like most providers have increased gas rates at the beginning of this year. I haven't been able to find any cheap gas only deals.

      • AGL? You get a $30 credit though I don't know much about the rates….I don't have gas heating so don't use up much gas and was more interested in the $30 credit that comes with this plane

        • No way - they are probably one of the most expensive in VIC.

In Victoria Energy Australia are the cheapest for gas that I could find.

  • Tariffs seem competitive for my area/usage as well. No contract is good but that also means prices aren't locked - they could increase them tomorrow and again next week. Do they do credit checks each time you switch providers?

  • How do I know I am getting "Standard Power" rate or "Standard Saver" rate?

    • Taken from their Price Guide;
Online Saver and other benefits By regularly selecting our Online Saver specials in our online shop each month, you are guaranteed to save at least 20% off the Standard Power rates. You may save much more by actively participating in our online energy shop. For example, we often have specials which are more than 20% off our Standard Power rates and sometimes as much as 50% off.
