Looks nice but for $43 I'd sort of expect the external power supply to come included even if it is optional

  • +1

Hoping it was going to be an RS-232 hub. Oh well.

  • Hi Smigit,

The company that makes it doesn't actually supply the power.

They have allowed for it to support the power cord if your devices require additional power, but the item does not come with the extra power unless a retailer is adding it in.

The hub should be enough for most devices… but plugging power USB speakers into it for example, will require the power cord.

You can pick up adaptors with multiple power settings and different size heads for about $10 - $20 from most DSE or Tandy stores.

    Hope that clarifies.

    :)

    • Yeah no I understand and it's a cool unit.

  • +15

I agree with Smigit and whilst I admire your enterprise and honesty, I do question whether this is the right place to promote goods, I expect others like me get a bit sick of postings from reps that most of us would certainly not consider bargains.
$43 for a USB hub is certainly no bargain, whatever shape it is!

  • +1

    Fair comment cooperdog.

Totally understand what you are saying. It is a good price on that item, but you can pick up generic ones which aren't designed in a shape for less.

As mentioned, I am doing this to try to get the traffic and certainly do not plan on making it a habit of posting on this site.

As it turns out… there aren't too many other items that I can get at better prices than other retailers anyway :(

Need to grow a bit and build my buying power. Hoping that this and my USB lamp will bring my site to the attention of people that are into that stuff. Already affiliated up with a few forums in the country and have already forged a close relationship with Eidos Games… so it is moving along and much quicker than I was expecting.

I am waiting on my au.shopping.com account to be activated and I was thinking of listing on GetPrice as well, but I really don't like the way the site operates. Open to suggestions of good AU price comparison sites.

Starting out is tough and I aim to make my site into a great place to visit. Every comment and feedback posted either gives me an insight into customer opinions or gives me ideas and I genuinely cannot thank you enough.

Once again, thanks for the feedback.

    :)

Who would buy a $42 USB hub???

    fAIL

  • +9

The point of this device is clearly to have a beeping, blooping R2-D2 on your desk. The USB hub is just the excuse to have it there :P

And trust me, people big on their Star Wars have done far stranger things with much more money.

And it's a good price if that's what you're after. Here's the cheapest alternative source I found - $51.90 inc delivery.

  • -3

This is a website for bargains. This is not a bargain.

Unless they are bargains, take your advertising elsewhere.

    • true. but it might be a bargain for star wars fans.

    • +2

Can you prove it isn't a bargain? ie provide a link where I can buy this cheaper?

  • Hi Orpheus,

Sorry to see that is how you view this.

Its not for everyone, nor is my website. Several of the products on this website are in fact posted by reps for big companies and I personally choose to not vote on the items that I would otherwise not be interested in purchasing.

For this particular "gimmick", it is a bargain, but I am aware it is definitely not something everyone would want to buy.

  • -2

how could anyone vote +tive for this bs

    • +2

      agreed

  • +2

I have to agree - negative vote from me simply because I don't think its place is on Ozbargain. Best of luck to you, but I don't think this constitutes a 'deal' as such.

    • +1

      agreed

      • +1

        what they said

        • +1

          agreed

  • +3

I'm curious how anyone would think this isn't a bargain. It's 20% cheaper than the closest alternative that I could find.

Can anyone provide a link to the same thing, but cheaper?

  • +9

Some people here are idiots. It's like trying to argue that a Mercedes on special for $10,000 less than another dealership isnt a bargain because you can get a Hyundai that also has 4 wheels, an engine and a steering wheel but is available for 50,000 less.

It's a niche item and is cheaper than an IDENTICAL item available elsewhere. It's not a regular USB hub. Geez.

    • -1

      Thank you…

      I agree with you completely.

  • +ve from me to attempt to combat the idiots. Good price on a rarer item.

    • -1

      Same from me.

  • +13

The problem with placing niche products here on ozbargain is that you will have a good chance of being shot down because it is relatively harder to find identical products on other sites which are selling for more, hence harder to prove it being a bargain or not.

I'm a business owner so I understand crazEyez's situation but I would suggest that you might want to keep your deals to one per week as people would percieve it as spam if it gets too frequent. It may well be the best price in Australia but some people will get annoyed if they see too much of your posts in a short time frame.

    Just my two cents.

  • +3

what he ^ said. i tried to warn you about this on my post for your other item but guess i should have been more explicit. we appreciate you need traffic and exposure but I can tell you now that posting multiple self promoting 'deals' in short spaces of time will only result in you being shot down as a spammer.

  • +4

I don't consider it's a bargain, neither I will vote it down. The post is just misplaced, paying 40+ for a USB is too much and as a R2D2 usb hub, I don't think it has 'collectable value'. Doubt is in the good spirit of cheap & good bargains.

If it was the R2D2 projection clock on the other hand, I would +ve vote it. ;)

  • +2

yeah Im a starwars fan but this is no bargain, and this site is not about stock your trying to sell

  • +2

later on we will find Superman, Spider Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hulk, Shrek, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Sesame Street………………..and the list goes on!!!
just to advertise here on ozbargain saying they are the CHEAPEST in their kind!!

mate, $43 for a non-powered USB hub? $43 for a figure that make sound? you MUST be KIDDING me!!! this site certainly not the one for you so called "bargain" stuff!!!!!!!!! if it's $10-$20, I might let this goes……if you don't post that often!!

$43? FREAKING NO WAY!!!!! THUMB DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • +1

agreed. definately not a bargain. However, I won't give it a -ive.

    • +1

      true

  • Not a bargain, but I will let this one slide and not give it a -ve.

  • It seems more like you're just promoting items on your site rather than bargain items. I already saw this R2-D2 USB Hub on your site when I looked at that USB light sabre you posted the other day and it was nothing special. Infact it's the same price now as it was back then so I don't see why your posting this since it's not even reduced in price or anything.

  • +13

Sorry I didn't quite understand what this site was about people. I am becoming a frequent user and voter in the last few days, not just to look at my threads, but to see the new deals.

I definitely am not going to be posting stuff on here often and I can assure you it will not be things that I don't feel are a bargain or would be considered overly niche.

I was given a recommendation from a friend to put a couple of items up as I had not actually heard of this site. I've spent the last month putting products onto the site and sourcing cheaper, better suppliers and now I feel I am actually competitive on some stuff.

I didn't want to seem like I was spamming. I can assure you, I will be very selective about putting products on here and will limit it.

I really am sorry people… it was not my intention. I am starting to enjoy visiting this site to look at the items and finding the bargains and looking for c cheaper alternative at good sources that I know. I do not want to be seen as just a spammer.

I am just starting out and don't really know how to get my name out there or how people will respond. I would never post most of my catalogue on this site for example, but the video game forums I am affiliated with I would.

This is giving me a very good understanding of my market and how niche it actually is.

I appreciate all of the comments from everybody and assure you it will all be taken on board.

    :)

    • +5

Giving this a positive because you're actually listening to what people have to say and are honest.
To those who complain about a rep writing in: that's what the 'rep' logo is for: so we know that someone has a vested interest in their deal (not that that makes it bad - just so we know).

  • +7

"mate, $43 for a non-powered USB hub? $43 for a figure that make sound? you MUST be KIDDING me!!! this site certainly not the one for you so called “bargain” stuff!!!!!!!!! if it’s $10-$20, I might let this goes……if you don’t post that often!!"

Yet geeks will pay $200 for a small figurine that does nothing. Well, it looks nice. I payed $50 for an anime figurine because it looks nice, and it does nothing.
This acts as a USB Hub and does…stuff. And if the user above who searched for it is correct about it being 20% cheaper, it is a 'bargain'. We post 5% off sales here and noone complains.

    That is all.

  • +4

Good to see that most here can have a mature debate about a deal without resorting to a slanging match.

    • +4

      No, you are!

      ;P

  • Perfectly put, Tycho.

  • What a load of robotic garbage! Maybe when i win lotto.

  • +1

not a bargain, just poor free advertising from the site.

  • +2

I've got no problem with the too-niche argument, but could people voting negative with the claim it isn't a bargain please explain how they'd get it cheaper?

    • They are voting based on functionality. Arguing that "this usb hub is in particular shape and you can't find one cheaper that's in the exact same shape, hence it is a bargain" is a useless argument. You can make anything into a unique shape and put whatever the price you want on it and argue that it is a bargain based on your logic that "if it isnt a bargain, show me where you can get an exact same one for cheaper."

      • How about just a similar thing?

A novelty copyrighted toy with USB Hub functionality, or hey, webcam functionality or something.

  • I suspect this is more to do with promotion than a deal.

Nevertheless it seems to have worked.

  • Plus vote for honesty. I don't think Dell got so many negatives. (Still waiting for computers.)

  • has anyone actually bought one?

    • I'd be interested to know as well.

  • +1

    hey guys,

    I did sell a couple.

Didn't have many of these available in the first place as I started this business with very little capital.

Not sure I can do that price again though, as I got a discount on my first order with the wholesaler and passed the discount on.

All depends on the shipping charges for my next order.

To be honest, I really wasn't expecting to sell out, maybe sell 1 or 2 and generate some traffic but it went alright. Didn't make any money of the sales, but got my name out there!

  • Deals Direct now also stock these, but for $45 plus shipping.
