    Network is WCDMA 850 / 2100

Optus and Voda have a 900mhz 3G frequency, so you won't be able to get that. That would be an issue.

Would be fine for Telstra network, which is what Aldi use, so that makes sense.

I was under the impression that Vodafail's 3G+ network ran on 850mhz…..

      • +1

        Yeah both:

        Australian 3G bands:

        850MHz (Telstra, Vodafone) – Exclusive 3G band
900MHz (Optus, Vodafone) – available in most metro areas on Optus, with both Optus and Vodafone re-farming the 2G 900 spectrum in regional and rural areas
2100MHz (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone) – Exclusive 3G band

        • am getting one as my first smartphone;
so this will let me use it on all networks?
          unlocked?
prefer to have one I can change to any network if need be
          with aldi mobile prepaid now

        • Unless you are using it on a Telstra network, you would be better off getting something else as this phone is unlocked but won't get all the Optus and Vodafone networks frequencies.

        • what smartphone would get these other networks
am new to smartphones so it seems that I will not get all the calls from those users who ring from those networks.

i think voda is mostly 850 and optus mostly 2100… so mostly ok to use.

    • -1

      Vodafone 3G is 850mhz I think.

    • +3

      Taken from Vodafone's website:

"The 3G 900MHz frequency is used in rural areas where there is a larger distance between cell sites. It allows for more people to get 3G coverage."

So 850mhz is for metro areas.

  • Or a Tronsmart TS7 Glacier 4.7inch HDX4 for same, imported, should one mind keeping it.

♢ slim 7mm, w/ 2 x 2200mAh (though tiny 4 GB), while possibly smarter to delay until KitKat.

For about the same price you might as well go with MT6589 instead of MT6582

    • Haven't noted one stocked at the price level, otherwise 8G could be suggested, with 850 support plus IPS 720 p. But the '82 can manage 312ppi effectively below $150.

  • Just bought a W450 quad core 1G/4G 4.5" for $100 delivered. Flashed with the latest and greatest plus rooted. Can't be happier.

    • I've been looking at getting one of the newer chinese smartphones (Zopo 998 or goophone). Everyone I tell laughs at me and says I should stick with … name brand. Looking at the chinese smartphones they have come a long way and even if it only lasts 12months I'm still saving heaps of money. What do people on here think of them?

      • +1

They are actually quite good, but I'm not so sure about saving money.
Personally I sell my phone after I'm done with them, say maybe after a year of use I can still get about 50~70% of the money back as I look after my phones, and good brand phones are very easy to sell as well.

If you don't sell your phone, then go for it, they are pretty good, Zopo or THL are not bad.
Be aware of the 3G frequency though, most of them only do 3G 2100MHz, some do 850MHz as well… you can't really find one that will work on all telcos here in Aus.

I've just ordered Zopo ZP980 for ~AU$200, still waiting for it to arrive

        • Agree. I'm very happy with my THL phones for the price :)

    • Is it as good as the new version of THL W100S?

    • How do you flash it?

    • Can you confirm that the mic button on the earphones works OK and control the music with this phone? Thanks.

    • Which site? Thanks.

  • I've just ordered Zopo ZP980 for ~AU$200, still waiting for it to arrive

Wow, that's a bargain! Where did you pick up that?

    • Auction on eBay, find the right time to bid (when everyone is sleeping), you get low price!
The lowest I can find elsewhere is still ~$260!

    • How does it compare to the THL W100S? Antutu scores it at 17000. Not bad for ~$140 all up :)

  • FYI, mine scores 10764 on Antutu.

  • Have been using mine for over a day and find it not bad so far for the price. It is hard to see the screen in sunlight even on maximum brightness and because the specs are modest, I am carrying a 2nd higher spec 4G phone for faster/better/higher Internet/camera/screen resolution/etc. but I can use this one to operate both my main contact no. & call/text using $30 Telstra pre-paid starter SIM card credit activated monthly bought when on sale for $10.

Anyway, my questions is I cannot seem to get bluetooth to work quite like I want. It works with the car hands-free and pairs to my Windows 7 computer but shows no bluetooth services. My Samsung Galaxy Note shows serial port which I use with myphoneexplorer to connect for texting, file transfer, etc. over bluetooth (in the absence of Internet access). Can anyone suggest whether/what I am doing wrong? BTW, the box has bluetooth version 3.0 written on it.
