Pretty terrible specs(mtk CPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM) and still US$149. Much better deals a from dx.com if you're desperate grab a Kogan phone or one from Aldi, they'd be better value.

and pick up some crack at the same time?

price is ok. good res. seriously, link some better deals phroghollow

Guarantee you won't find a quad-core phone under $150 on dx.com that isn't using an MTK6582 or 6589 processor, OR one that has more than 1GB RAM.

      • +1

        …and dual sim.

    • I can't imagine theyd be much better value, Kogan and Aldi phones are the same stuff they just source some random OEM device with these exact same specs and then chuck their branding on it and flog em here. Except of course at a higher price (200-250$). You get the local warranty with aldi but whose to say they won't die on you beyond the 90 days. Also pretty terrible specs? Go look at the Moto G, it's specs are exact same. 4x Cortex A7 @1.3GHz, 1GB ram except for 8/16 gb rom. Read the reviews? No one has said it's "Pretty Terrible" or along those lines. Sure it's not the fastest thing ever but it's no MSM7227 that every damn manufacturer seems to love reusing for how many years.

Warning: I have this phone (MTK6589 model) 3 issues so far

    • 1 dead pixel (I don't really care)
    • volume control is way to coarse, minimum setting is either mute or 1 step up being deafening.
    • A problem I have outlined here on XDA forums about random apps being installed without my permission.

Worth noting that while it is dual SIM, only one is 3G capable, the normal sized SIM, Micro SIM is 2G only.

Other than the aforementioned issues it has been a great device; camera is good, screen is all good (sans 1 pixel), battery life is really really good, performance is good.

Despite being a HTC One clone the ports are in different places & and it is slightly smaller so case won't fit (it comes with one anyway). I go by the principles of; if it cost 700$ buy a case, if it cost 150$ then meh.

thanks to send us the pictures

what kind of pics did you send them?

      • +3

        heheheehe, that's between me and Anna…. ;)

(jk, was pics of the app details, you can see some of them in the XDA link)

    • Problem 2 and 3 can probably be solved with a custom ROM. For problem 3, try unchecking the "Unknown Sources" option from Settings->Security.

      • Would love a custom ROM, but alas, I know of none :(

        try unchecking the "Unknown Sources"

That was the first thing I tried, no dice though.

        for #2 maybe this? http://whrl.pl/RdIFTE

  • Almost identical specs for <$100 (8MP camera and only 4gb ROM but meh - you'll need a MicroSD regardless)

      Almost identical

By that I assume you mean: less screen size, less screen resolution, less camera MP, less wifi N, no IPS screen. So the only similarities are: its a phone, it has android, 1gb ram & same CPU?

I wouldn't say identical, but maybe a good alternative.

nice!!! what kind of tripod did you use ?

        • nice!!! what kind of tripod did you use ?

I heard that the tripod was some expensive gear that is no longer in production. However there's recently some Chinese clones that you might be able to grab for cheap.

        • The Chinese are big Bono fans.

      • Jaw-Dropping samples :O

        • they're just a couple of snapshots i took with it on the weekend…

  • I would spend more to get
    this:
    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/JIAYU-G3T-4-5-inch-IPS-Retina…
(but beware that it's only good if you're on the Optus network, and living in metro areas as it only supports 3G 2100MHz)

    or this:
    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/CUBOT-ONE-4-7inch-HD-Screen-M…
(good on all telcos but not Optus 900MHZ, mainly regional areas I think)
Both are HTC One rip offs

MT6589/MT6598Turbo is well worth the price difference, this CPU and newer 8 core MTK CPUs are so much better than their old crap

    • w450 isn't bad for the price.

      • Yep bought one for $99.

        • Got it yet? I ordered one for an xmas present and it arrived the other day.
Haven't played with it yet though.

    Looks like a HTC One.

  • How does one get spare batteries for these phones? Because I love having spare batteries!

  • A poor man's HTC One, they make these things so blatant. I think I'd prefer a pretentious iphone.

  • I don't mean to hijack the thread, but would this be an upgrade or a downgrade from a Galaxy S2?

    Reason for my Q:
I'm trying to look for a phone that will run the following apps flawlessly (but doesn't need to do anything else):
    1) Navigon/google maps 2)Whatsapp 3)Viber 4)Gmail 5)Contacts (500+ contacts) 6)To do list 7) SMS + storage, I have a 4000+ message history that I need to retain 8)Phone calls 9)You tube 10)browser

My s2 seems to struggle with the SMS side - i.e. if I type a message that's fairly lengthy, it will die half way, but i think the phone is faulty, because when I try to get cyanogenMod to flash a new rom, it seems to stop about 15% of the way through… I've tried lots of different cables etc, same results.

    • If you can live with the limited internal storage yes, technically it's an upgrade. 4gb of storage equates to around 1gb of app storage, unless you modify it's partition through the flash tool.

Navigon will not come preloaded. Only Samsung Galaxy phones will give you free Navigon access.

Other things to note will be the screen, since it is not AMOLED it won't be as vibrant or bright in outdoor viewing.

      • The amoled screen on the S2 doesn't give very good outdoor viewing experience. And I found most LCD displays (IPS and SLCD) work so much better outdoor…

        • My HTC One is much better than my old gnex for outside viewing. I don't know if that's a very fair comparison though.

        • Samsung might have improved it… Not really sure, but last time I checked the S3, under sunlight it's still basically blue (I think that's the color of the actual panel)

  • Anybody aware of any 4.5 inch or above el-cheapos with HDMI or MHL? Latter very unlikely, but micro/mini HDMI elusive too.

    • I have only seen >$300 (China) phones with MHL/HDMI/OTG features. I believe the Samsung Galaxy S2 has MHL but I have never been able to get it to work, but maybe look for an older model high end brand name phone like the GS2?

      • I have a couple of MHL capable Samsung devices - phone and tab - both work fine. Phone a Note, but I know the S2 was the first Samsung phone with MHL onboard.
Sorry to hear yours has proven to be MHL in-capable. Though some pulse-interference susceptibility seems inherent with MHL kit (at least that's the case with mine), it's still a great feature to have.
