Are the speakers VTEC? Don't want to buy a Type R without it.

    • +10

yes but you must use apexi vafc vtec controller, and preferably be running a B18c or H22 with at least CAI to get the most of of it.

also you may want to run an amp -

  • Hi Rep, I couldn't find a contact page on the website so am posting my query to you here…

I am looking for a replacement headunit for the Mazda MX5 Miata 2004 NB Bose system. I understand it is double DIN however the Bose system has a two stage amplifier for the front speakers (which are rated 0.5 Ohm) so could you advise me of suitable head unit please. I am after one with front USB, Aux and Bluetooth connectivity (preferably Bluetooth 4.0 protocol), GPS a bonus.

Thanks and look forward to your reply!

    • Hi,

can you please email us directly = [email protected]

      many thanks

      JP

    • The CDE-W235EBT is a double din for $199. Looks pretty good at a cursory glance.

      • They are a great unit, and they are actually alpines top selling source unit in Australia for what its worth, we also have other double din units from Pioneer and JVC at around that same price point if you are interested ! let us know and we will work out a deal for you !

  • Hmm. I cant decide if its worth going components, or just coaxials. I don't really want to modify the door trims to fit the tweeters AND the coaxials as cheaper. Maybe I just just cheap out..

    • Hi bhubb18,

you will get better sound quality from the split system, but for ease of installation its hard to pass the coaxials either way if you have any questions or if we can help in anyway please just ask !

  • Thanks JP. I'd been waiting for a good sale on the CDE-148EBT for a while now.

Just so people know, the Alpine products will not carry a proper manufacturers warranty as they are not local Australian stock. Alpine Australia does not allow locally distributed products to be sold online thus these would be parallel imported. I can also say the same for the Soundstream products, there will be no manufacturers warranty because there are no online dealers.

I think people should know that if anything does go wrong with their purchased products that the respective brand will not assist you.

    • +1

This makes no difference to the consumer under the Australian Consumer Rights laws. It is the responsibility of the business to ensure that warranty issues are handled.

Except of course if they are not an Australian company.

      • +3

Makes quite a lot of difference. They company relies on the suppliers (ie Alpine) for support in warranty claims. Say you buy the Alpine R-type splits and after 3 months there is a fault with the crossover. Assuming XYZ audio company are still operating, they would be responsible for sourcing you a new crossover. Alpine Australia wont sell a non-authorised dealer the part, so they would have to go into a local dealer to purchase the part and send it to you at their cost. In my experience, companies running on thin margins like importers aren't going to do that. I'm a massive Ozbargains fan, I want to make users aware of the situation.

People know of the limitations that come with buying from a online source with no manufacturer backup. This can even mean getting technical support from the company, Alpine for instance will refer the customer to the local Alpine dealer who then will ask "where did you purchase your product from?". How keen do you think a dealer will be to help you knowing you purchased it online and just want support from the dealer?

I mean no disrespect to Super Cheap Everything, but I work in the car audio industry and I install a lot of products bought from online suppliers. The number of issues I see on a weekly basis specifically in regards to warranty claims is astounding.

Like I said, people should know in order to make an informed decision.
        cheers.
        -Paul

It still makes no difference. Have you read the Australian Consumer Laws?

The laws clearly indicate that it is the responsibility of the business that sells the product to the consumer to guarantee the product is fit for purpose.

Here's one of the relevant sections:

You can claim a remedy from the retailer if the products do not meet any one or more of the consumer guarantees, with the exception of availability of spare parts and repair facilities.

The remedies you can seek from the retailer who sold you the product include a repair, replacement, or refund and in some cases compensation for damages and loss.

The retailer can’t refuse to help you by sending you to the manufacturer or importer.

The laws also make reference to standard guarantees (including warranty) that cannot legally be changed; whether or not "People know of the limitations that come with buying from a online source with no manufacturer backup." Buying online or not makes no difference either; if the product was purchased within Australia from an Australian business the sale is subject to Australian Consumer Law.

Full summary of the laws is here: Consumer Rights and Guarantees.

          Hi Paul

No disrespect taken ! i have been involved for over 10 years now on both sides of the fence as an importer and i have worked for one of the large Japanese audio brands as a BDM before this roll, reality of the situation is that Alpine like many of the top brands now days make such an outstanding product that the failure rate is less than 1%, and in most cases ( for us at least) if there is an issue with a unit we simply replace it with another one, its not fiscally sound for us to have these units repaired, so we just swap them out in the very unlikely event that there is any issues.

you are right also if people are buying non branded or cheap Chinese built units than yes you are going to have issues i have seen it also time and time again this is why we dont sell or supply any of these units, because we are aware that they often have issues, all units we sell are brand name products who have all passed rigorous QA testing.

i am happy to speak to anyone who has any concerns about purchasing from us, you can reach me in office hours on 02 280074583 ( my direct line) or if you are interested in wholesale purchases please also get in contact with us

          thank you Paul.

          JP

        • Thanks for the reply JP.

In the event of a failure, is your company going to pay for all the freight costs between you and the customer? Or is the customer going to wear that cost?

What does the customer do in respect to warranty if for some reason you stop selling the product or go out of business? No other Australian dealer will touch the product or want to help the consumer. I know what I wouldn't if a customer came to me with a faulty Alpine product purchased online.

Also, do your products have intact serial numbers? I've seen plenty of Alpine product with serial numbers removed in the last few months.

          Cheers.

        • HI Paul !

          Thank you for your reply,
I am not sure why you have so many concerns about faulty units, we have sold 1000’s of unit over the past 12 months and had only a handful of issues ? I would say actually its way under 1% are you experiencing more faults than this ?

Our freight policy is actually one of the best on the web !

The customer pays freight back to us, if the unit is found to have a factory fault than we issue the customer with a refund for the cost of the freight and send them a brand new unit!!
At the end of the day our company is part of a larger company that has been in the audio business for over 20 years, we have had a record 2014 and continue to grow every month, so our future is bright!

All of our unit come with serial numbers, and are fully tracked by us !

I understand your frustration, we are selling a product below what most retailers can even purchase them for but at the end of the day this is OZBARGAINS – and we are giving the people of this online community the best prices available to us to ensure that they are happy, as any of our customer is they are happy with our products prices and services and Im sure you will find how 1000’s of satisfied customers continue to shop with us.

We also constantly refer customers to retail shops, for products we don’t stock for installations, and we work with these shops as a two way street to ensure our business and their businesses grow long into the future.

I hope this has satisfied any questions you may have, if you would like to discuss it more please feel free to ring me on the above listed number any time you like !

          Have a great afternoon !!

          JP

These are some excellent deals and to me that sounds like an excellent warranty policy! Having faulty products replaced this way sounds much quicker than most manufacturer warranties would be anyway.

  • Rep,
Any head units that have android support? i.e. can play & charge via USB, and can be controlled via the controls on the head unit (don't need to be controlled on the phone)
Main feature I'm after is playing music through USB.
Prefer a dual-DIN and bluetooth but not essential.
    Budget of <$150.
Don't mind any brand as long as warranty is good!
