"Pay What You Want" VPN Service Christmas Special (£1/Year)

410

20GB/month VPN (PPTP, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec) in 21 countries for £1/Year.

Account created and authorised within five minutes. Whatismyip confirms I'm in the UK, and SpeedTest shows ~6 Mbps download, which is just as fast as what I get from my UK VPS.

Special details from the provider (VPN.sh):

So at VPN.sh we’re feeling pretty nice right now… it’s coming up to Christmas, and rather than fighting in the rush of throwing crazy offers around to new clients on Christmas eve, we want to provide a super nice offer now.

I can hear you asking “Pay What You Want? Can I literally just pay ANY amount that I want?”. The simple answer is yes… so long as it’s at least £1.

The complex answer is that we provide a selection of amounts that you can pay, starting from as little as £1/year (and yes, it’s recurring), and increasing in small quantities, just in case you’re feeling nice like us, and are happy to pay a little more for this gesture! Obviously we really do appreciate anybody paying what they feel the service is worth to them, however we’re still happy with anybody paying the lowest amount.

    • They're pretty active on LowEndTalk, search for liamwithers

    • Wholy s**t, LOL!

    • Not sure if I want a drunk pothead managing my web security.

  • I'd be more concerned about their servers with all these new sign ups , I'd imagine that the speed would slow by the end of the promo plus potential recurrent disconnections once their network becomes congested with cheap sign ups

Never the less , its a nice promo

  • FYI, when you click the link to the 1 pound / mo offer, you need to add the annual product, the promo code automatically applies to bring it down to 1/mo

    Good deal.

20GB/mth should probably be stated in body or title.

  • Will this work with Hulu, by any chance? Netflix?

    • +2

Don't see why it wouldn't , as long as you use The uSA VPN.

There are also DNS services that allow you to use hulu and Netflix etc.

And some chrome extensions too that u can addon

      • Can't seem to find any info about their DNS service. Link pls.

        • +5

Not theirs , but other companies such as

          • Unblock-US. One week Trial. No credit card required.
          • SmartyDNS. 14 days Trial. No Credit Card Required. Currently using them and never had an issue.
          • Tunlr. 100% free according to their website
          • Unotelly. They offer a free trial. No credit card required.
          • ProxyDNS They offer 1 week money back guarantee
          • Strong DNS
        • Thanks I have used unblockus and it was pretty fast and reliable but stop using them since I underutilized them. TUNLR is free but very slow and I stop using them.

        • just use media hint plugin

    • +4

U can use Chrome and http://hola.org/unblocker.html

      • Hola is an excellent alternative if you want to use Chrome for viewing unblocked content on Hulu, Netflix, etc.

If you want to use apple tv, Roku or any other Media player, you will need a DNS in order to either setup through your media player or router.

        • for browser based i use media hint automatically changes you to whatever country. BBC or iplayer. but i picked this special up for my android stick just in case. for $1.90 or whatever who can complain

      • Straight from his Facebook account, posted on the 4th of March 2013 (may want to screencap)

"Low cost VPN's, watch US Netflix and stay secure online!"

        Hmmm…

  • sweet! i probably won't use it much but for a pound, who can say no? :)

    • I just signed up too. They probably rely on people like us to subsidise those who will actually use it!

  • Looks well dodgy and very amateurish, I'll stick with unblockus.

Remember that using a US-based VPN and mailing address knocks about 50% off the price of your Kindle purchases. Way larger selection of books for sale, too.

    • So if you set up a US Amazon account and purchase via an Aussie IP you pay 50% more? Or are you comparing cost with Amazon AU store? We don't have a problem accessing the US store without a US VPN, but if it works out cheaper that's another thing.

      • I had problems accessing the US store with a US address; a couple of times it decided I was in Australia despite the fact I'd set my address and my country of origin to the US. It stopped once I started using a VPN.

  • is there a vpn for Greece

  • Beaten :)

  • I don't see any client softwares, how to use their VPN services?

    • Use any OpenVPN client, or the PPTP/L2TP client built in to Windows.

  • For those who took the plunge, how long did activation take? On their website, it says "Activation is instant", but it's been 30min since paypal went through, still no activation email (I did get the invoice email confirming payment though).

    • i got my activation 6 mins after payment

    • Got the activation email after about 2hours, not sure what happened there, but all good now.

      • Hmmm. I paid 8 hours ago. No activation email yet…

  • +1

Couldn't resist for the price. Very draconian terms and conditions though so I think I'd be too nervous to use this for anything even slightly dodgy!

  • Comes down to $1.94 AUD with Paypal. Not bad to play around with. Hopefully I can cancel the recurring yearly charges just in case I don't want it later on.

    • +1

No you are clearly not allowed to cancel a subscription….

  • This deal has expired.

    • Negative. Press checkout and it goes from 22 pounds to 1 pound.

  • Added all of the connections to my pc, however i cannot get Atlanta, Dallas, Frankfurt, Netherlands, Switzerland, Seattle or UK2 to work. Anyone else? The rest work fine, so its not a major issue at all…Just curious.

  • do you store user history? if not how frequent is the delete cycle?

  • @VPNsh tweeted:
For all who caught our £1/year special, you can upgrade to our Large package (100GB/month) for an additional £5 by opening a support ticket!

    • Is the additional £5/month or yearly?

  • This is a cool deal

  • Yet another "trust us, we'll -never- charge your PayPal acc't more than you agreed to pay" deal.

If they can suddenly take 30, couldn't they take [much] more?

    • They seem to accept Bitcoin as well which is probably the better option. Just cancel the paypal subscription if you are skeptical afterwards.
