AVG or Avast are free -

I have used both of these for years and never had any problems with viruses.

Yeah…. MS Security Essentials is good enough

    • I agree actually. Was skeptical at first, buts it's actually pretty decent.

Not sure who negged you but I agree. I assume its because MSE is only a baseline product now and not what it user to be. Which isa little disappointing. However for most people it should be enough if supported with anti spyware software. MSE or other free options suit my needs nicely

Microsoft Security Essential is built into Windows 8, if you want more robust protection and want the additional bells and whistles then get a third party software.

If you are on Windows 7, MSE is better than nothing but to say that MSE is better than other products is inaccurate. It's failed the Av comparative test twice in a row and is no longer the leading free antivirus.

        • I never said or suggested MSE is better than other products. I actually said quite the opposite by calling it a baseline product. This any AV product you look at should be better than MSE. If it's not then its a poor product. Having said that MSE suits my needs fine.

  • Say what. How much? Might be discounted but better and cheaper paid options out there.

  • Thanks OP, however depending on what AVG option you are after, the Australian PC & Tech Authority Software Store might be cheaper: http://store.pcauthority.com.au/?act=search&brand=18

    • I think the pc authority is for one PC, 1 year. this is for 3 PCs, 2 years.

  • What we have to pay to use! What happened to being given money to use?

  • not a good deal no disrespect to OP - they got the same email I got from AVG
however the best place to buy AVG from is reseller downloadcrew software
I bought licence keys from there - checked with AVG they are a legit reseller
AVG internet security 2014, 2 year licence for 4 PCs is $59.99 there, I think I also got a PC tuneup program chucked in for free or next to nothing can't remember the exact price

there are other deals there also and they are all year not just Christmas time
