    • Thanks , updated

  • Hoping this offers crypto mining protection that mines crypto still.

Not even sure what it does but

NOTE: CREDIT CARD IS REQUIRED BY NORTON FOR LICENSE ACTIVATION.

That's a big red flag there, you've paid for it, but You can't even activate it unless you give them your their credit card.

They have done so much anti-consumer stuff with their crap bloatware it would be an essay to write it all.

Free built-in Windows Security/Defender is better.

Absolutely and BIG warning here, even if your debit card has no balance on it they will manually process a renewal for the transaction and your bank is likely to honour it. I purchased a product from Norton, I think there was like 95% cashback at the time. I used an ING visa card which only ever has $10 on it unless I top it up for a purchase.

Norton attempted 3 times to take an online renewal payment which declined, they then manually processed the 1 year renewal at ~$150 and ING honoured it and would not accept a dispute for the transaction as I agreed to the subscription (even though I could not find any way to cancel the subscription).

I eventually took it to the ombudsman and I think ING just gave me my money as it was too much effort on their end.

They use it to encourage you to purchase other ten random features.

    • Yep we actually sell these as well, and even though the anti-malware engine is actually pretty good, it has become total nagware in the last couple of years. You can disable the urging for you to set up their cloud, passwords, VPN and all that crap but I find it eventually tries to nag you again.

      ALSO

My customers are finding that Norton are NOT renewing on the renewal date, but a month or more BEFORE the renewal date.

If you grab this, log back into your account and go through and cancel all the automatic renewals immediately. If you really must have it next year you can always pick up cheap keys - our regular price is $38 and that has decent fat in it. I could go lower.

      DO NOT USE THE VPN.

I've been to a customer who was ground to a halt on the VPN. Took me while to find as plugging my laptop directly into the router was fast but turns out customer was prompted to "secure her browsing" which meant turning on Norton VPN and we were instantly down to less than 1Mbps download speed. She didn't understand any of this.

Since Norton/Symantec was sold it has become even more crap. I sell it, but I actually don't recommend it any more :(

    Dark web, spooooooky~

  • +3

We monitor and notify you if we find your personal information on the dark web

It seems they do nothing more than that, such as take it down for you.
There are free dark web scanners if you only want that.

    • There is a Identity advisor too but never used that personally and can't comment on that

that's handy cuz I'm not even sure what I identify as these days let alone who I am

  • +1

I doubt it actually monitors the dark web, just a lie.

  • Norton… 😂

Dark web reports from Google is free. Used to be a paid feature via Google One subscription

  • 5 years ago its AV and protection was ok if you stuck the cheaper sources of license keys. MS Defender long since passed this product offering.

Next best thing that is free is to at least go and configure your DNS to Cloudflares Malware general protection 1.1.1.2

  • targeted towards boomers who shop at Harveys.

  • It says this further down in the how to claim page where it has the T&C. So sorry people it looks like you won't get the $20 cashback from buying it from SaveOnIT. It needs to be purchased from a participating ANZ retail store. SaveOnIT is not one of those. Unfortunately you can't just buy it from anywhere.

"The eligible products must be purchased from participating ANZ retail stores between November 11, 2024 and February 16, 2025 inclusive."

  • is dark web still a thing?

It's kinda faded in the wash, like a 23 year old Goth's clothes.

      • Haha nice, almost made me laugh as a part time goth.

  • Norton feels like such a relic… thinking about it sends my mind to large beige towers and Kazaa

    • Yeah. I ditched Norton years ago. I use Panda Dome Advanced. It also has a built in Dark Web monitoring. In my opinion it's been good. I seem to have never had a problem with it.

  • Spycloud is ok for breach / data leaks - it’s free for a single email address & you get to see the data.
