  These are fake discounts. US article, but it is the same here:

  e.g. They buy a dinner set for $50, target price is $90, so they initially is priced at $149.99 .
  Very few sell of course, until the "40% off sale" .

  Myer is expert at this. Look in the dusty corners now for overpriced goods in small quantities, and you may be seeing the "samples" for the upcoming post-Christmas sales. (Container-loads are waiting in the warehouses)
