Was on the look out for a Scanpan universal knife block for my previouly purchased ozbargain $9 J.A. Henckels knives from Target.
When I was looking around for prices of the block itself they were averaging approx. $40, then I found this Grays Outlet deal including including the block, knives & a sharpener for $49 posted. So I thought I'd pass it on as it may be of interest to some. The Knife Reviews seem reasonable for the $ cost.
Paint has definitely peeled over the years with ours, not to say they dont look cool, but the paint defintely peels in the dishwasher. They are the Wife's knives, mine arent allowed in the dishwasher, but they also are quite a bit better made than scanpans
There you go, never, ever put knives in the dishwasher… It even says it the instructions not to, but as a general rule the salts blunten the edges and will obviously sand away the paint.
What are the dimensions of the knife block? I need a knife block and have been eyeing these off for ages. I have a number of different knives, the longest being about 20cm in blade length. How many knives will this fit comfortably?
Haven't recieved my order yet, so can't comment at the mo.
Now measured the knife block.
Height = 20cms & area where knifes can be fitted = 5cms wide x 16cms long.
FYI - Also noticed Aldi are selling similar universal knife blocks in a upcoming catalogue.
Cheers for the info Hobbes. I am still interested, but yes, now have seen the Aldi ones, but have no idea on their sizes until they come out. Anyone know how long Grays will have this?
I went and bought the Aldi ones. Nice and heavy ceramic exterior. About 20cm deep with 10x 10cm width ( I got the square ones so they would hold more knives). Haven't had much time to see how good it works but for the $15 it very good. I would have bought the above deal if Aldi didn't time this right. Only major difference is probably the lack of an angle where you pull the knives out, but not a big issue for me.

Ordered Monday, received Friday for me.
I bought them 2 years go, all still going very strong. Sharp knives, high build quality, just need to use the sharpener once every couple of months to keep them like new.
Paint has not stripped on any under daily use, except I stabbed the bottom of a can with one, lesson learnt, replaced, works fine :)
Don't believe the reviews that say the paint peels - I use them daily for everything, and they look new.
