Ebay increased their final valuation fee to almost 10% recently.

    • +9

its the Ebay GST. I remember when it was 2.9%

I will not list on Ebay for this very reason. 10% is a lot of money

      • +6

I will not list on Ebay for this very reason. 10% is a lot of money

Where do you list instead? Gumtree?

        • +6

Gumtree is owned by eBay - so enjoy it while its free… for now

        • +4

Do you get many "I will buy it from you but I am currently out at sea but if you send it to this address my friend will get it for me, I will send you money via paypal if you agree".

        • +5

There is nothing enjoyable about Gumtree.

        • +5

Oh yeah. I also get more lowballers than serious buyers. And most of the inquirers seem to have an IQ lower than the national average.

      • +3

eBay is monopolistic and neither exists for the buyer or seller but rather their Swiss bank account

    • Wow, didn't realise it's so high now. Does this include the Paypal fee as well?

      • +1

        no. 30cents + 3.4%

        • +3

2.4% + 30cents for payments originating in Oz and 3.4% for payments originating from outside of Oz to be more precise plus whatever fixed fee it is for that currency.

        • is that for the person sending or receiving money?

        • +2

Receiving. It's like a merchant fee.

        • +1

          Cheers

    • +1

      ANOTHER INCREASE? AGAIN

      • it's been months, a lot of sellers did not even realise the increase and think they still paying the old fees….sad & stupid!

        • Do you know the exact value? last I check it was 7.9% of final fees.

        • +1

          http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/fees.html

final value fees for non-store seller = 9.9%

how greedy eBay! imagine selling a $50 item,
eBay wants it $5 from you + the PayPal fees!
also the seller risk of accepting PayPal!

    • +2

People complain about the 9.9% fees, Hell i do too, I sell a number of large value items every month, today I listed 5 items, $1400, $2200, $700, $100 & $600.. Its a combined total of around $5000. I am confident in getting those prices, and I know if I listed on gumtree, I'd be lucky to get $3500-$4k(I'm not going to start with the time wasters there). I may pay $550 or so in fees, but at the end of the day I'm making a larger profit.

We argue that eBay does nothing for us. But they do, they offer a global selling platform, with a huge audience. eBay is more professional, and you build up your reputation there, which higher feedback = trusted seller.

As for this deal, I already get free listings? I list around 10 items a month, And only pay final value fee.

targeted offer - i cant sign up and the reason was its by invitation only.

  • +2

Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only.

  • +1

It's an invitation only offer so doesn't work unless they invited you

  • +1

I can also confirm that it is invitation only.

  • I received the email for a different eBay account, and it worked fine for me.
Maybe they're still in the process of sending them?

  • My friend sold iphone 5s on the ebay and didnt need to pay the final value fee. anyone know why?

    • +1

They entered a fake credit card and/or didnt pay the final $50 or so when they got billed and did a runner?

      Just my guess.

    • +4

the fee is paid monthly, maybe he/she hasnt been billed yet.

  • I understand that even the heading of the linked page states "Invitation only: 200 free listings".

However, I have not received any invitation from eBay, and I found that if I first logged-in to my eBay account BEFORE clicking the "Accept Offer" button, I then received the following "Promotions" page and message:-

You've accepted the offer "200 Free Listings!!".

No idea why eBay used two exclamation marks and a quotation mark.

    • Nope, no dice.

Looks like it's only some accounts.

    • +2

Same here, worked for me despite not receiving an email.

      • -1

Not for me even though I was already logged in

  • Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only.

  • Can i just clarify one detail?

All my listings on eBay are free anyway.I have not paid insertion fees for a long time. Not sure if this is just on my account(private),same as some people only have a pay after delivery option with Paypal and others don't. This promotion will not wave the final sale fee!!!

To be honest i can not see the deal or bargain here!

    • Non-Store Package subscribers receive the first 40 Fixed Price or Auction listings free every month.

      http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/fees.html

    • All standard accounts come with 40 free listings a month — or are you saying you get more than 40 free listings a month for free?

Beyond 40 listings, insertion fees can be rather expensive. Relisting items also count towards that total.

      http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/fees.html

      • seller did not think of why eBay increase the Final Value fees for? :-P

the FVF is so much greater than the listing/insertion fees.

  • +2

I got 10,000 free listing promo for my account.

    • Is there a link for the latest 10,000 free listing? Or is that something that wasn't posted on OZBargain?

  • +3

    Heads up,
You might be better to actually buy a monthly subscription and get 'lower' Final-Value fees, especially if you're planning on listing 200 items a month.

    http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/fees.html

    • +1

Not to mention one you have 30 days duration for your listing where as the free account max is 10 days.

  • "Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only. "

  • Worked for me, but I had the email anyway.

  • +3

to picky and choosy ebay - they want your $ and offer zero seller protection….makes you wonder why you bother half the time. a lot more sellable items are going straight to the bin.
now they come along with this offer which is loaded with more conditions - maybe they should just make a list of what they would like you to sell instead.
