PlayStation Network announcement

We are aware that users are experiencing some disruption to the PSN service. To minimise the inconvenience we have suspended the “redeem voucher” functionality whilst we investigate further. Unfortunately this means that money cards, product vouchers, PlayStation Plus vouchers, PS3-PS4 upgrade vouchers and any other vouchers for digital content are not redeemable at this stage. Other PSN features such as log-in, online multi-player gaming, PlayStation Plus trial, PS Store (excluding voucher redemption), trophies, messages, friends etc. are all available.
We apologise and will provide an update to this announcement soon.

  • Wow, that's nice. I just bought a year's worth and received a $10 credit on PSN. At this price I may as well buy another year and stack it.

  • +1

What do I gain/lose by having a US PSN account?

    • Lose nothing but USD $29.99, gain all the things I listed under - "Membership Includes:"

    • +1

Sometimes the games list is different region to region.

      • Also better discounts on their sales.

      • They got everything the AU store has just about.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant_Game_Collection

        • Snuke's awesome list highlights which games both regions have (and consequently which games are region exclusives, at least for now anyway).

        • He didn't explain what the coloured borders mean.

The exclusives are pretty even. What will usually happen is what's exclusive to one region is only exclusive for a while then heads to the other.

The US has just as many good exclusives as EU. Hotline Miami is awesome btw.

I would without hesitation go for the US account. The discounted prices are better.

        • Cells B1 and H1 (for the coloured cells). Border is user edit.

But I agree. Fairly even spread in quality. Matter of personal opinion I guess. Nice to have the lists to compare. Big thanks to snuke.

        • Coloured borders???

If you see a coloured border on some cells only, that is another person viewing the doc with that cell selected.
If you're on the doc, look in the upper right, it will tell how many people are viewing, they are each allocated a colour.

  • don't want this but giving you +1 for all the extra info you've provided. Cheers.

  • Good find for someone without a PS+ account. Am a bit scared to loose all my AU PSN+ purchases if I shift to the US one.

    • +2

Or do what a lot of us do, have both.

      • +5

The money is strong with this one.

        • Money saved from this site can be redistributed well.
Or is that money that should be saved, but I follow this site and buy stuff non stop because it's a great bargain.

          Damn you OZ B!!!!!!

  • Knew about this a couple of days ago .. Just hope they have enough stock.

  • u need to put plus+ one year service in title

    • fuxed

  • Love black Friday. Have to figure out how to buy & activate

    • I bought my $50 PSN Credit via Amazon US. Only took a couple of hours before they emailed me the code.

      • Mine was available to view instantly.

        • Exactly, it shows you on screen once the transaction is completed.
You also get an email. Every email I have received has been within a few minutes.

        • Ah my bad. I was remembering the one time I bought via Best Buy. Sorry guys.

  • Is this online deal? It says selected retailer

EDIT: Just found out about the Amazon

    • +1

It will be online and in store. Of course unless you are in the US, the in store side wont help, unless you have someone to get them for you.
I posted the link to the Amazon store as that is most likely what we would all use.
Best Buys stopped emailing codes about a year or so ago.

      • Thanks OP!

  • Awww yissss, Adding another year onto my year already! ^_^

  • -3

Hmm, actually when does this start? It's still $49.99 in the US Store and on Amazon?

    • +3

Thanks for the neg whoever that was… had a mind blank, for some reason I thought it was today this deal was on, why would you post it a whole week early?

      • +6

So no one buys or stocks up on US PS+ subscription now, only to then be pissed off in a weeks time.

        Forewarned is forearmed.

I guess you got negged because it mentions the date several times in my post and the heading.

      • So Ozbargainers are aware and ready to buy them before the swarm of zombies from the US Black Friday got them all?

      • -7

So he can get the + rep for posting early rather than putting it on the game forum where he gets nothing!

Most of us knew about it anyway - has been discussed at length in all of the major gaming forums.

        • +2

Not everyone who is interested in this deal visits all of, if any of the "major gaming forums".

        • I could give two shits about the + rep, if I did I would be rushing to post other deals the second I see them.
This blog post was up 11hrs before I posted it, which in OZ B time might as well be a decade.

I have made many anti comments on PS+ posts about the monthly "free" games being posted as deals, because they aren't bargains, they do belong in the forums.
I don't visit the OZ B forums, I spend enough time on other forums to add yet another to my life.
The only other Aus forum I use is Whirlpool and no one posted it there, so I thought it would be helpful to members there.

This constituted a deal as we actually get to save money.
As for being early, just ask user lostn if he wished he new about it even earlier - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/123972#comment-1705708.

        • As could I.

The reason I stated "why would you post it a whole week early" is because of the site's inconsistency. Personally, I don't post anymore as it just turns into a shit storm of bullshit, yet other posts just fly right by without a single neg. One example my post was pulled for whatever reason, the very next day, I saw the exact same thing, and it stayed there. Even though I posted that my post was pulled for that reason, and it still stayed there.

Before posts like this that were a week earlier or how ever long, would go straight to the forums. As I said, just inconsistency, and i'm tired of it.

Anyway, bring on the negs, cos I know they're coming.

        • What you say is as I see it too.

  • ahhh i need PSN plus for AU on the cheap. from what im reading, if i buy this from US, it doesnt give me the PSN plus for AU.
i think i knwo the answer already. just was confirmation
    :(

    • Good question, do we get that sort of deal on PSN + for AU?

      • Nope. We're in AU and hence we get shafted.

        • +1

But we frequently get extra 90 days and 25% or 30% off deals that the US don't get.
So not shafted, just different discounts available.

        • Frequently? It happened once last month. US got the same deal twice last year.

Discounts? US store has better prices and gets larger discounts.

  • Just in time for the PS3 I bought…thanks!

  • Will we be able to continue playing existing ps plus games in Aus account with us account ps plus?

    • +1

They are not linked in anyway, so if you do not renew your Aus PS+, then you can't play the "free" games.

  • So do I need to set my Amazon address to USA or my CCard billing address or BOTH?
I did this a while back and it worked (with some fiddling) but I'll be damned if I remember how.

Also, have to wonder if they'll "run out" of codes (sometimes happens with big steam sales)

    • Only your Amazon primary delivery address needs to be somewhere in the US.
My linked CC is Aus in every detail.

  • DLC purchased with the US PSN account work with local AU/PAL games?

    • DLC is region locked, AFAIK. When you go to the store info for the specific DLC, it will tell you what specific game number it is compatible with. (Eg. BLES-XXXX).

    • +3

I always buy US games anyway. It's cheaper, and I can be certain there won't be a dweeb in a suit who demanded the game be censored because of violence against aliens or zombies.

  • -5

    GAAAAYYYYY

I just bought it last night for $50. :(

I think I might just buy an extra year or two since I'll need it for PS4 online play.

This sucks. I wish they'd refund those who purchased very recently.

  • Is it possible to change your address on a AUS PSN account to an USA one so you can keep your existing username? Or once its a AUS PSN account it forever remains a AUS one?

    • You can change your address, but your username remains tied to the current store. I.e. You can't convert an AU account into a US account. But trust me, US account is better anyway.

But it's ok to have multiple accounts on the PS3. Not sure about PS4. You can't on Vita (without having a separate memory card).

      • PS4 is the same as PS3.
If you don't buy games digitally, then Aus is better for sure. If you do but games digitally as I do then US may be better.

    • Unfortunately not and this is one of the reasons I've been very angry with Sony. They should allow one change a year or something for those of us who have moved country. At one stage I moved country and region (Australia, Japan, and Taiwan all with different stores) 5 times in 4 years, leaving behind no bank accounts. It made buying DLC etc on PSN very difficult, so I returned to being a PC gamer for things that would have DLC.

      • They have said it is not as simple as "should" allow, it is tied in too deep to their system and requires too much of an overhaul to allow this change to happen.

        • Perhaps but it shows a lack of planning, and really I expect more from a company as large as Sony who they themselves send their workers overseas constantly to work in other offices.

It is easier to have those international based accounts now but back in 2009 it was a pain in the arse, at least in my experience. Perhaps I wasn't knowledgeable enough back then. Even getting money on my local Taiwanese account required trips to a distant computer store to get PSN cards as I was not permitted to get a credit card by banks. You couldn't even use your debit card as a credit card in those days in Taiwan… making the card purely an atm card.

      • You'd be better off making a new account. Use up any funds in your old account and from then on make all purchases in your new region.

  • I'm in the US on Black Friday.
    Which store to buy this?
Can I buy it and then setup when I get home to Australia?
I have a PS3 with AU PSN….I need to setup an American PSN then enter the code?

    • Yes, you should be able to buy it off any big retailer like best buy, target, walmart etc or directly from amazon.com

You will need to make a new account with a US address.

  • I know the PS4 isnt region locked but if I were to buy 12 month PS+ subscription from the US site, will it work on an Aus console?

    • I dont intend to make a US playstation acount, just wanna save money by buying PS+ subscriptions from US not AUS.

      • +1

PS+ subscriptions are region coded. The 12 digit code (like all playstation redemption codes) can only be redeemed on an account from a matching region. This means if you buy a US PS+ subscription it can only be applied to a US account. The region (or lack of) of the device is irrelevant.

So PS+ bought from a US site will work on your console as long as the account that you apply it to is US as well.

        • Okay thats unfortunate but understandable. Thanks for clearing it up, much appreciated.

        • "The region (or lack of) of the device is irrelevant."

'Mostly' irrelevant, but console region does exist and there are examples of Japanese PS3 applications only working on Japanese PS3, even if you use a Japanese PSN account. But yeah feel free to just recklessly ignore the fact, it's irrelevant anyway as you say.

        • The region of the device is not relevant to the redemption of PS+ codes. I was answering within skjb93's question scope. But thank you for bringing in irrelevant (to the question) but useful information :P

  • AWESOME!!!! Thanks op

  • I really want to move over 100% to a US account with a main name, bit worried about killzone though I wante to use the name I'll use on the US PSN account for multiplayer as well but hope that it's not region locked to US on a US account as well, I hope it's based on ping at least, but after what happened with killzone mercenary I kinda doubt it =/ Shame they don't allow changing of names either on PSN.

  • Got a PS3 and Vita and an AU and US account… bloody hell, being able to use both accounts on PS3 and not on Vita… this is starting to give me headaches!

    • You'll have to stick to one account for vita. The freebies are about the same anyway.

    • Best way it to get another memory card for the vita. You can have US account on one card and AU account on the other, but you will need to reset and format the vita everytime you switch accounts.

      • Yeah I know, that really sounds like to much trouble really… heard there was hope they change that restriction on the Vita with the Vita TV thingy

  • I already bought amazon psn credit and added to my SEN wallet account, will I still be able to purchase this subscription on the day from us.playstation.com ?

    • Maybe, we can only hope so, but they have said nothing and did not reply to all the requests for this on the blog post.
I have a $50 credit code from Sony after the $10 rebate promo, so would love to use that.
Although I plan on getting Lego Marvel for PS4 so I will need wallet funds regardless.

      • +1

You buy the playstation plus from Amazon, Sony have said nothing about it being available on the digital store.

  • +1

    ahh damn i missed out!!
anyone by chance bought an extra one?! why did my stupid exam had to be on a saturday…

    • It hasn't started yet.

    • As Venom said, it hasn't started yet… it starts this coming Friday.

    • Did you travel into the future?

      • oh… yes .. I did! in the future good guys gave me all the games I ordered cos they backordered

  • I know you can play games purchased from the US store that are installed on my Australian account but..

Can you play the PS Plus free games (that aren't available on the Aus store, obviously) when logged into your Aus account?

(Actually, I just realised I can check this myself. I logged into my US account and tried loading a game I got as part of the PS Plus Instant Game Collection deal with my Aus account. It worked.

    • Correct, it is just as per any other game that you can share amongst accounts on your console.

  • How does one play games purchased from the US store on an Australian account?

    • There is no issue at all.
Download game via US PSN account, sign out, you can this as soon as you start downloading.
Sign into Aus account and play the game when it is downloaded and installed.
      Nothing more needed.

  • Nice, thanks for posting. I've never bought Plus or XBL GOLD subscriptions before because the thought of playing 2-4 games over the span of a year (infrequently) with my mates isn't worth anywhere near the price charged, however $30 for a year isn't too shabby.

Can someone confirm that once the voucher code has been purchased, is there a TIME LIMIT for when that voucher then needs to be applied onto a PSN account? I wasn't too sure and wasn't too keen on trying to find the specifics on their website.

On a side note, I have about 6 x XBL GOLD monthly subscriptions available for sale. Any takers?

    • How can you have never bought any XBL Gold subscriptions, yet have 6 for sale?

Offer needs to be posted in the classified section though, or else the comment will get booted by the mods.

  • Hopefully by Friday USD will drop a little. It's sitting at $1.08 AUD now.

  • Hey OP,

Do you think we can redeem this 1-year PS+ code without inputting credit card details?

I have a friend who bought an US Amazon PS4 unit which come with 1 month PS+ Trial, but was prompted to input an American CC details before activating.

    • I don’t see why not, you have purchased it, it is yours.
I have never had to renter CC details when redeeming US PSN card codes from Amazon.
I have never purchased a US PS+ code form Amazon though.

Were they setting up a US PSN account for the first time?
If so that would be why it asked for CC details.

      • People in the forum have reported the same thing as well, they are require to insert their US CC details to redeem the free 1-month PS+ trial. Hopefully it will not be apply for this PS+ sale.

        • I know why, it is the trial, and part of the trial is the auto setting that gets enabled to automatically take funds form your card to extend it after 1 month.
It is a sneaky move on Sony's behalf that the default PS+ setting is to auto renew, you need to turn this off.
Of course to have this setting on there needs to be an associated CC.

I would go here first and add your Aus CC to file so there is one already associated that it thinks it can withdraw from.
          https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/liquid/cam/acco…

maybe that is why I never get a prompt, I have a card linked.

  • This wont disrupt anything with the AUS account when joining online servers and such will it. Seeing as you need PS+ to play online on the PS4, it wont search for US servers or anything will it? :S lol

So the ONLY "downside" to this is that the US and AUS monthly free games are different, and you will receive the US ones if you purchase the US PS+ membership, right?

  • Guys the OP is a bit miss leading. The only chance for us aussies to get this is from Amazon. Sony said 'selected retailers' and don't mention buying directly from them online.

So don't buy the money codes JUST buy the PSN+ code.
