HP Compaq DC7600 P4 3.0G Ultra Slim Desktop PC (used) + Genuine XP Pro = $229.50

22

Yes, Easy Toys is serious on selling some desktops now. We believe computers are toys too. So we sell them at the toys price. $229.50 + $24.50 shipping.

As you might know, the best price of Windowx XP pro you can get in Australia is $130: http://www.shopbot.com.au/pp-microsoft-windows-xp-home-price…

GMA 950 chipset is Windows Vista ready as claimed by Intel. http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/
To be able to run Vista Areo smoothly, the most important thing is to upgrade ram to at least 2GB, which is build in the system we are selling.

Update:

Hi folks, I’m here again:)

Let me first correct all the mistakes. Ex-demo, refurbished to “used”. DDR II aren’t the fastest memory. and on the website too. My apologize..

Really, we are new in this business. Even though we’ve been selling toys for a while, this is the first time come to computers. We originally thought these old boxes are good enough for kids as toy or as HTPC, file server (with external HDD) etc. But apparently, we used some stupid ad words… at the end, we learned. I should thank you all for this.

BTW, we are getting some Dell GX620. In comparing with the deal from Zazz: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/11194. How much would you guys think is a reasonable price?

  • Plenty of similarly priced refurbished PCs out there.

You can even get ones with a full 1 year warranty if you look around.

This one's a decent price with a not-horrible warranty period, but I'm not too excited by it.

    Lies.
This machine would struggle badly with vista due to the 945 integrated graphics.

Apart from that it's not too bad

A pity they are lying about it being "ex demo". As if anyone has been selling it recently.
yeah, ex-demo before it was used in an office for 2-3 years.
    OK otherwise.

    • Here I was still thinking "ex-demo" had a distinct meaning, not having bought any items given that description recently, though I've had sufficent experience with "refurbished" to treat it with suspicion.

    • positive vote revoked after seeing prices elsewhere.
BTW, the photo in the link is not the "ultra-slim" model, which has a laptop DVD.
And the slim one has no PCI-e video slot. Which is it? I would avoid them.

  • yeah, i was looking at this deal about 10minutes ago on your website. Not an amazing deal.

    to 22001862,
Thanks for your reminder dude. But what I said was not a lie.
What you mentioned about 945 was not true.

    IMO, the negative is unfair.

    to freddy,
Thanks for your vote. "ex demo" doesn't make it sounds any better than second hand or refurbished. "ex demo" is just another word saying they are not brand new, and they are used. So let's take it easy.

“ex demo” is just another word saying they are not brand new, and they are used.

Uhh, no. "Ex Demo" means "Ex-Demonstration Model". A demonstration model is a computer on the shop floor so customers can see the computer working out of the box. A used computer is one that was previously owned by somebody other than the business. If a car dealer advertised an "ex-demo" but it turned out to be second-hand they'd get fined by the ACCC for false advertising.

Ex-demo does not mean "used", or "second hand", or "refurbished".

      • Nhand is right. It's for these reasons that we have 'ex-demo' cars (with just a few kms on them) and 'used cars' with many thousands of kms on them.

Most of us would pay more for an 'ex demo' car than a 'used' car.

    • Now you are saying "refurbished". Still a lie, just not so brazen.
      see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refurbishment_(electronics)

It is used. Is that such a hard word to say?

    • little witty aren't you in wordplay? used are used.. well perhaps it sounded much better (and honest!) if you just say "pre-loved" ?

  • um…last time i checked "ex demo" is an abbreviation of 'ex demonstration' model, something which has not been used for commercial/business use. Obviously this unit has, so i think "used" would be a more appropriate term Tao326.

  • Ahh yes I've had one of these on my office desk for the last few years. Perhaps its not identical specs but it seems a lot slower than my colleagues PC's. I spose it would be a good PC for the kids…

  • 5 years old machinery with no warranty and the storage size is smaller than my kids 'music' device?

    no thanks :)

  • More to the point, would you call this one 'Ultra Slim'?? My Dell one is slimmer and it's only modestly called 'slim'.

    • that depends which photo you look at. the first one is the regular desktop version.

  • These sell at auction for $60. Bought some myself, got them for the cheap XP pro licence on the side and cheap machine for the kids to distroy rather then my laptop or server, but certainly not work $250.

  • hotzone, which auctions did you buy these from? I'd love to know, I'd get myself some!

I don't actually think it's that bad at all.

I've seen lots of the cheap refurbished stuff, and generally, they come with small amounts of RAM and a DVD-ROM drive (and the older ones use the older DDR standard, which is very expensive to upgrade). So this machine already comes nicely specc'd with 2Gb RAM and a DVD burner!

So if you pick up one of those "base" machines, you have to factor in an XP licence, more RAM, a DVD burner - etc. And factor in installation (mums & dad's often don't know how to do this…)… and the costs quickly go up!

I'm lucky enough (or stupid enough to pay for!) a technet subscription, which means I have access to all of Microsoft's software. So, for me - I could easily build a brand new much faster computer for the same price… (i.e. I don't have to pay for another copy of Windows XP).

For most people though, they couldn't do this… So this machine really isn't too bad at all. The only thing I don't like is that it's simline, which means if you wanted to upgrade the graphics card, you'd need to find a low-profile PCI-E graphics card.

The main website advertisement is terrible though. Ex-demo? "It comes with a 2 GB DDR II Memory which is the fastest memory giving a further boost to the performance." Ever heard of DDR3? Someone needs to lay off the hot sauce!

  • The deal you have posted isn't a bad deal, looking at BudgetPC.com.au ( or this page: http://budgetpc.com.au/index.php?orderby=product_price&DescO… ), it's $20.00 cheaper. I'll give it a positive based on that, although I hardly think Used PC's > $200 are much of a bargain when you can get a brand new box from $299 for an E1250 AMD or E1200 Celeron.
