You're doing it wrong. I get 2 weeks out of mine before it starts going off. I pack it tightly into one of those sistema clip it containers, as close to being as full as it can be so theres not much air in it and then i wrap it in some absorbent paper towel to absorb moisture from the decay process. Also Yes you can freeze, just like any other meat really. I chop it up and freeze it when i have excess thats gonna go off and use it for pizza's when I feel like it.
I second this. Things used to rot like crazy around my place but ever since I've put them* in airtight containers, GlassLock in my case, they seem to last up to three times as long.
*not bananas, with their off-gas of course.
