  It's handy when you tie this cable onto an existing mini usb cable. This way you can have one cable fit for multiple devices.
  
  I have a mini usb cable that can be used for camera, card reader and portable hdd as well as at the same time use it for phones and tablets using this attachment. Just saves me from having an extra cable to fiddle with.

Cant think of a device which still has mini usb ports. My canon camera does but that's for data transfer and not charging.
