  • Pretty good price what is this cut like? Do you roast it like leg of lamb?

    • Really?

        • +1

If cooked properly and not like an idiot, would taste amazing.

        • No, not really, but I can just imagine what it tastes like.

          You're the one missing out then… :)

There's a reason why it's $5/kg. It's one of the least desirable cuts of meat. There must be a reason for that. Great tasting meat doesn't sell for $5.

Yeah, it's part of a half price sale…

It's obvious you haven't tried roast shoulder of lamb…

If you're game enough, try lamb neck. That has the best flavour and is even cheaper…

    • +1

I wouldn't go that far. Not as good for roasts as a leg, but slow cooked it'd be great

Not as good for roasts as a leg

        Tastes way better than leg…

  • +6

I would pick a lamb shoulder anytime over a lamb leg. it tastes better especially when slow cooked.

    • +2

Mmmmm… with roast potato and pumpkin !!!

  • +3

Lamb shoulder is very underated cut. Lamb shoulder slow roasted stomps all over roast lamb leg! Its sweeter and juicier, yum. Thanks for the heads up TA I'll be stocking the freezer for Sunday roasts.

At this price, I'll be getting one for the dog too !!!

      • +4

      Shhh!! Don't tell everyone.
Lamb shanks used to be cheap until everyone discovered how delicious they are (slow cooked, obviously)

      • +1

Too true. This happened with dark chicken meat 5 or 10 years back and now the thighs cost as much as the breast…..

        • +7

I hope the same thing doesn't happen with sheep testicles !!!

        • +1

          SshhhoosshHHH!!!!

      • +2

Lamb shanks used to be cheap until… the supermarkets decided everyone that bought cheaper cuts didn't need to eat meat or pay rent.

  • Wasn't at my local Coles :(

    • +1

      starts tomorrow

      • cheers

        • +4

          It is now tomorrow !!!

  • Is it bone-in?

    • +2

If there was no bone, there'd be no flavour…

  • Slow roasted shoulder is the bees knees.

  • jv is right, which is why you slow cook it,

as "Jaime" has shown you can make it taste great.

The point here though its a cheap piece of meat for Ozb'ers

    • +1

      cheap piece of meat

      watch the language…

  • Is this specific to a state or something? Looking at my local catalogue online (Sydney), I see Lamb Leg Roast at $7/kg but no shoulder…

    • Same for my WA local catalogue.

    • perfect

      • Pretty good for a keto/bulk diet

  • is this available in WA?? i cant find it in the catalogue for coles :( hope it is

    • Check the last page. Most states seem to have leg roast for $7 instead of this.

  • $7/kg in NSW

  • Have updated title to reflect availability.

  • slow roast with rosemary and garlic, salt and pepper, start the oven on as high as it would go and really preheat it, put the shoulder in the oven on a baking tray covered with foil. After 30 mins lower the oven to 160 and cook for another 4 hours. You will love the results.

  • went to a few different ones today, couldn't find any of them. Not surprised though i suppose

  • slow cooked in a slow cooker for 5 hours and it taste very nice

    • 5 hours?! Rofl. Who has the time to spend 5 hours cooking dinner? I can cook a steak in 10 minutes.
