SD Set Top Box - 29.00 @ Coles

180

MTV Standard Definition Set Top Box (model: MTV005).

I know we are living in the "FULL HD 1080p era" but I just wanted the digital quality and the extra channels for my old CRT TV. This inexpensive STB does the job!

Small unit with remote and plenty of features (Electronic Program Guide, Channel Preview, Parental Lock, …), Composite and Component Video, Analogue and Digital Audio output, LED display.

Not sure if this offer is Australia wide. I picked up this STB from Coles SE QLD (Sunshine Coast).

Fantastic. I don't need HDMI, all I need is a simple STB to receive digital on a CRT. +1 vote from me.

  • These things are crap - or at least the one I bought a few years ago was.

Subtitles would randomly keep coming up on the screen, and you couldn't get rid of them as subtitles were turned off! Turning them on and then off again would sometimes work, but not always…

Quality wasn't good, and it ran much hotter than any of the other STB's I've used.

Perhaps they have gotten better over the past few years, but I suspect not

  • Can anyone confirm this is at all coles? Good price even if the unit is a bit on the crap side.

  • i bought one of these a few years ago, first one died, second one was just annoying returned it and got a dvx one from strathfield for a little bit more, but much better!!
if you can spend a little more, my friend bought a $50 one from the good guys, the epg one it was awesome very good user interface!

  • I just rang Coles @ Roselands NSW and they said they are selling this set top box but for $65. Either it's a QLD only deal or the price will drop next week in NSW.

  • Heh I wouldn't trust anything like that from coles.

Years ago I bought a 51cm TV from Coles as it was a good price.

I then sold it at the auction rooms and got more than what I paid for it a year later!

    lol

    Gotta love auction rooms :p

I suspect this may be a shop special, as it isn't in the current QLD-METRO catalogue (which covers the Sunshine Coast).
Excellent price though, and with it being Coles you'd have no problems with refund/exchange if needed.

I've just bought one here from our local Coles Stores. It seems to be OK. Have just to see what the future brings. The price we paid was only $29. Which I think is OK. It isn't quite user friendly though but you get use to it.

    • So was that at Coles, Collie - W.A. then Bert??
