  • Seems a nice price to me .

Pity only found 1TB similar model on OW website, no beat deal.

  • -5

i bought this one for $75 from OW. but that was 1TB

    • +12

It's not that one then because it's a different drive.

  • apparently from the mobile site you save $1? what is the normal price dse sell this for?

    • you save $17 on the standard site

  • I found OW had it $139
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…

so maybe still a beat deal?

    • +1

Different Models, DSE is basics 3.0, OW is connect. They will check the model number not just brand and capacity.

      • +1

Thanks for highlighting that. You saved me a trip to OW

  • Have any portable 2.5" USB3 external hard drives gone for less than $66 per terabyte?

It's still a $26 premium over a 3.5" external which has been as low as $40 per TB in previous deals

    • +1

For that $26 less you also get a bulky less portable hard drive that requires an external power source.

  • only compatible with windows?

    • +1

That would be because of the file system that it comes with (probably NTFS). I can't see why you wouldn't be able to wipe that file system off and format the drive with a file system compatible with Mac or Linux.

      • Linux shouldn't present a problem; most modern versions have the default ability to speak to NTFS.
It's only MacOS that doesn't talk to NTFS by default.

        • Thanks guys.. so i take it that in any event i should be able to reformat it for my mac..

        • yeap FAT 32 or GPT

        • Easy enough to enable on Mac, I use it frequently to move HD from Mac to set-top box in NTFS…

"Native NTFS write support has been discovered in Mac OS X 10.6 and later, but is not activated by default, although workarounds do exist to enable the functionality."

  • Thanks OP, bought one.

  • This might be a be stupid question but since it doesn't mention anything about USB 2.0 compatibility does that mean it's NOT USB 2.0 compatible? I got an old 2nd computer running and I want to back up some files on that.

    • +2

USB 3.0 drives are backward compatible.

    • +1

One occasional 'incompatibility' with USB 2.0 will be the drive not receiving sufficient power. This can be an issue regardless of whether the drive is USB 2.0 or 3.0, though.

      • Thanks for the info! Will grab one.

  • +4

does anyone know if this drive can be removed from the case and used in a laptop?

    • would like to know this too………….

    • +2

An Amazon review shows it can be removed but there is a slight difference in the model number they had which may just be a regional thing (HDTB115AK3CA vs HDTB115XK3CA). Also, just an FYI that these drives are rated at 5400RPM so if you install your OS on them you may experience slower boot and load times.

"I previously had the 1tb drives and have had no issues so I went and bought 3 1.5tb versions of this drive when they were selling at $89 each. I decided to pop one of them open to look at the drive. The USB port is NOT soldered to the PCB and you can change the drive chassis if you so wish. Secondly the drive is 12mm thick. Unlike the previous Seagate GoFlex drive I popped open which was 14.8mm. So I can make it fit into my PS3. In case you wonder why I would buy a external drive and remove the drive. Its 1. Cheaper and 2. You can't buy internal 1.5tb 2.5" drives."

      http://www.amazon.com/review/R2UN3AZX5OXQ3F/ref=cm_cr_pr_per…

      • Thank you very much for this info, I am after something like this into my notebook. When were these 89 and where?

        • +1

The second paragraph is a copy/paste of the review from Amazon. It would have been $89 on Amazon but you would need to factor in shipping to Aus and I doubt it would be cheaper than this deal.

      • 12mm thick drive?

        laptops use 9.5mm………..

  • Will try during late night shopping if a dumb employee from Office Work price match that dick smith price. Wouldn't hurt trying :P

    • +2

Don't forget to tell him he's dumb as he is taking it to the counter.

  • +1

Would this be ok to upgrade my ps3?

    • you will need to check the dimensions of anything above 750gb 2.5 hdd as they come thicker and the PS 3's slot cannot fit thicker hdd's

    • +1

      Refer to my comment above.

  • I managed to get 2 x 2TB Canvio Connects yesterday from OW for $142.45 each. Got pricematch based on Shopping Express sale selling them at $139 each or $129 if buying 2; plus P&P. I think that Shopping Express deal ends today or tomorrow? They have different deals each day.
The DSE deal even if lower capacity and different model would have done me fine though and saved me $80+. Oh well.

  • I got it from OfficeWorks, priced matched for $94. The staff said the model is a bit different, but they still do it for me. One more thing to add: I think the model on their website is a bit different than what was in store. In store the model was TOSHIBA Canvio 1.5TB Port HDD.

    • +2

could you post the receipt please?

    • I call BS. Officeworks are sooo anal AS IF they would price match and say "oh it's a slightly different model but yes we'll match it"….lol!

  • Can anyone confirm this will work with a Mac Laptop?

  • Where does it says 3 Years Warranty?

    • Go to the site and click on the Specs yellow tab in the main description :)

  • I'd keep the receipt handy . Last time I tried to get a warranty on a laptop hard drive I was told that Toshiba Australia don't keep serial numbers so I was s#$t out of luck . Laughable really .

  • Good deal. Comes to $66 per Tb. Not bad at all.

    • Yeah I only just got the 1TB Hitachi for $70 delivered or I would definitely have gone for this one..

  • Very tempting! arghh!

  • Quick question - do these drives work okay on 64bit systems? I am still stuck on Vista 64bit!

    • Yes.

      • Cool, I ordered one :)

        • Actually, NO, it doesn't work with 64 bit. Lots of posts on the web about it. My own fault for not doing enough research.

        • Isn't Win 7 (just Home premium) 64 bit?
The drive works fine for me.

  • funny sometimes it tried to charge me 4.95 for shipping and sometimes it was free shipping.

ended up confirming the order with the free shipping and not the $4.95 delivery fee.

  • bought one also,thanks op :)

  • Thanks, I bought one even though I have a lot of disk space left from the previous hard drive deals

  • Bought it $94.05. OW at Southbank is willing to price beat.

  • Ordered, thanks.
