Bought it the last time around. It's a very compact unit but it performs quite well compared to the speakers on the TV.

    Definitely worth it for $99.

Same, might get another. Only downside it is when you turn it on the volume starts back at zero each time.

    • The snob in me needs to know….does it look "cheap"?

      • I don't think so. Kind of the same black plastic finish as most tv frames.

      • Doesn't look bad but doesn't look "expensive" either. It's just a glossy section in the middle with the speakers on the ends. The subwoofer looks like any other subwoofer.

God Damn dse and their crappy mobile site. It always fails when I check out using PayPal.

    • The main site is failing too. A Click and Collect order give this message at the final stage - Error creating order.

      • Main site worked fine for me on C&C.

I got one last time. I did not realise it doesn't support DTS
    which is a pity.

    • With that price tags I doubted.

    • Well that means no DTS-HD or Dolby True-HD then.

So it can't playback the awesome audio that you buy BluRay for, just normal 5.1.

I don't even rip the 5.1 track anymore, only True-HD, so no playback option at all.

      • +2

Even if it did support it, do you really think you will be able to hear the difference with a $99 soundbar ?

      • +1

If you're using DTS-MA or True-HD then you do not need a $99 soundbar - you need a proper 5.1 or 7.1 setup with individual speakers and an AV-receiver.

        • moot.

    • So does that mean that if you are playing something back that is encoded as DTS then you get no sound out of the unit at all, or does it downmix or fall back to DD or Stereo or something? I would assume that also only applies to the Coax and SPDIF inputs, the 3.5mm input (being analogue) would work at all times, although not sound as good surely?

      • It will play the sound, but it will be PCM or some other format rather than unadulterated DTS-HD/DD True-HD.

      • The analogue collection will obviosuly work - but you can't feed this thing DTS and expect to get any useful sound. But it's possible that your player can down-convert to AC3 for PCM.

      • I don't believe you will get any sound at all. I have an LG tv which will decode video files which have dolby sound tracks but will not play any sound where the audio track is dts only (some files have multiple tracks). For files with dts I have to run a coaxial or optical cable to an amplifier which can decode dts audio. Alternatively my Samsung bluray player will decode dts to stereo before getting to the tv, so if you have a player which decodes the signal, then you will have stereo sound.

  • Those who are interested in this nice device better check if your TVs has some sort of audio output, my 6 years old Hitachi plasma doesn't… too bad.

    • Yep I bought it last time and I was lucky that my TV had SPDIF output. It accepts that, optical, or RCA. Happy with the product, it's a good deal for $99 and makes movies watchable now that the dialogue has a centre speaker.

    • Not even headphone output? Can use a 3.5mm to stereo RCA adapter.

  • Can you get $20 off if you order via the app?? The app wont let me log in so cant check..

  • Workmate looking for one of these, so bought it for him. Strangely, no delivery charge to Brisbane which makes it even better value.

  • Bought one of these last time. Its a great little unit to add a little bit extra when watching movies.

  • Is this better than logitech z623 for movie dialogues?

  • Wonder why this time its getting more votes??

read ozbargain at brekkie time. Put on washing. Order sound bar via click and collect. put on dishwasher (bought via deals direct from bargain spied on ozbargain). Use fairy dishwasher tabs found from ozbargain deal. Watch a bit of telly (bought after checking ozbargain). Walk around to dickies - pick up sound bar. Walk home. washing machine & dishwasher still going coz it was all so quick even with no car. Just a usual day in the life of an ozbargainer :P Thanks to all!! <3

  • Grabbed one today from the store - indeed worth its price. Good Deal

  • Damn you OzBargain - bought one, free delivery is a nice touch. No real need for it, but judging by the comments on here it'll be better than my current setup, so may as well give it a go! Thanks gummibear :/ :)

  • why do I get the feeling my order will be cancelled due to lack of stock….

  • Just picked one up at Hornsby :) They've got 1 more in stock for pick up.

  • Tempted to pick one up for the TV in the spare room but it's wall-mounted and there's nothing underneath. Can this soundbar be mounted?

    • Yes it is wall mountable

  • Well, mine is going back after about 15 minutes. Hooked it up by coax from the tv and optical from my android tv box. It worked on either source for a couple of minutes then sound would be lost and a loud pop/clicking noise kept coming through the speakers. Also , when it worked you wouldn't have any idea of the treble / bass/ or volume settings. It resets every time you turn it on. (which i did numerous times to stop the pop/clicking). If thy offer me another one to try I don't think I'll bother. Perhaps this is a case of you really do get what you pay for??

    • just seems like a faulty unit…
      its not $99 everywhere… its $199

  • Had 3 left in Burwood Westfield. They had one displayed as well. Dialogue sounded good, crisp and clear. Ok for the money but did resist this time.

  • So no cables at all even for the subwoofer one? Not even RCA?

  • Subwoofer has twin flex speaker wire attached

  • That's very low watts, I purchased the samsung home sound system for $177 at 30% off at jbhifi, it has 500watt and true surround 3d channels just a tad extra the htf4500xy has way more punch for its buck.

    • Says $277 on their website now, so that's a fair price difference…

  • can you really trust stores people when they tell you 'out of stock'? or 'we'll tell you when the next order will be in'?? sometimes you just wonder whether it's just their marketing gimmick

  • +1

Yeah I purchased it end of last months sale, just speaking out if your going to use it for blurays/dvd, I wouldn't recommend. I cant express myself enough sound bars are horrible unless you are going for the high end models, treble and base dreadfull for these Phillips. But for the price I gotta give it way, it's a hell better than any tv built in speakers.

  • Just ordered one. Sounds really good for its price. Maybe impulsive purchase but what can I say, the deal is too good to pass up…can't help myself

Would this soundbar/woofer combo be suitable for use as PC speakers?

    • +1

This is what I'm using it for

  • Just picked up a set, for the price very happy with it

  • nice sound for the price. worth $99

  • Had mine replaced this afternoon and have given the new one a good workout. Much happier now. Using an old harmony remote to control tv and soundbar works a treat.

    • can i ask what was wrong with it

  • It appeared to overheat after a few minutes and the sound from optical or coax was replaced by a constant popping and clicking. Must have been a one off because used the replacement for about 4 hours straight and it dint miss a beat.

  • I grabbed one and it's arrived today……sadly might have to upgrade my old openelec build to set it up easier…. plughw codes are a pain!

    • Got it working in Openelec/XBMC really works at treat! Using optical cable I bought ages ago and works with no dramas :)

  • Got them today ready to setup.sounds is not bad.

    For $99, it's good enough as is…

There's no way I would have paid$299 for this at all at rrp

  • Surround sound feature echo so much I don't even use it
