  • Tempting deal.

  • ANZ is much better. No annual fee for the first year.

    http://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/platinum/anz-pla…

    • no 0% on purchases though?

      • I agree that there is no 0% for purchases, but you can transfer 95% of the credit limit to your homeloan and save some interest. I don't see much point in purchases. Maybe it suits someone, but not for some.

        • what do you mean "transfer 95% of the credit limit to your homeloan"? I want to do that too, are there any more details? does it work for existing anz platinum card customers?

    • There are many differences between ANZ and St George cards, ANZ requires higher income to apply ($50000 vs $35000?), has higher interest rate 19.39% vs 15.99% for purchase, balance transfer is 0% for 9 months, St George is for 12 months.

Depends on how you use your card as to which one is best.

The ANZ fee waver is nice for $20000 in eligible purchases in a year.

      • St George is also 9 months 0% balance transfer

Special offer - 0% p.a. for 9 months on balance transfers, requested at card application. Apply between 2 October 2013 and 14 January 2014.

Also the best way to use such credit cards is to cancel the card after the 0% balance transfer is finished.

        • Yeah it is 9 months, sorry, looking at so many cards.

  • why not just get a 28degrees card?
sorry this is a serious question. please dont neg me.

Different purposes. Does 28 degrees give free overseas travel insurance?

      The question is:
Difference between this and a Bankwest Platinum Zero which is free.

      • I was going to ask the same question. I suppose if you transfer $10,000 worth of balance, you can save $100s in interest by delaying payment (and keeping your money in a savings account or mortgage redraw). This is how I make money on my creditcards - by paying my bills up to 55 days later.

But you'd have to cancel the card once the 0% is over, because then the deal is worse than Bankwest's $0-annual-fee platinum card.

      • The question is:
Difference between this and a Bankwest Platinum Zero which is free.

28degrees and bankwest zero platinum have no forex fee - it's 3% with this :(

They have the same offer on at the Bank of Melbourne: http://www.bankofmelbourne.com.au/personal/credit-cards/our-…

    Coincidence?

    • BOM and St George, and BankSA are all owned by Westpac, it also seems the BOM has become part the St George Bank.

      deal updated.

Callcentre that handles this card is offshore in India.

  • Whats 0% transfer for 9m mean?

Does 0% transfer mean if i have westpac owing $$ on credit card and i apply for this at st george i will not have to pay interest for the $$ for 9months??

    • Yes, to whatever amount you are allowed to transfer to the St George credit card.

  • i had this card for over a year, free as part of my home loan package. to be honest, with no reward points - the only time i did use it was for that travel insurance.. and without claiming as per usual it didn't feel like there was any benefit.

Can I transfer the balance to a credit card which has no money owing and then do a cash advance from that credit card thus giving me like $9,500 cash (95 % of credit limit say $10k) to play with for 9 months ? anyone?

    • +1

Yes you can, but check if your cash advance charge any fee. Citibank send a cheque as if it was a balance transfer, check with St George if they have that option.

    • yes - check your credit card, but the cash advantage fee usually only applies if you are borrowing the cash and not if the card is in surplus.

I do large balance transfers into my credit card with the same bank as my homeloan, and then move the surplus funds into my mortgage offset account.

      • not ALL card can, they might suspend your account, and you are NOT suppose to do it.
Some banks does not care thou, eg: balance transfer the fund to ANZ or HSBC and withdraw alright, while AMEX suspend my account and need to reverse the fund back the bank who balance transfer which is a headache.

  • Not sure if they still offer it but I got a Platinum Mastercard from BankWest which has zero annual fees, forever.
I use the free travel insurance at least once a year.

    • Bankwest still offer that, but you're missing the deal here which is the 0% on purchases for 12 months, not the platinum credit card.

    Hi,

I'm interested how you withdraw the amount and put them on your mortgage offset account then transfer this back.
To get the balance transfer, arent you supposed to get apply this at the application and you need to include the other credit card details?

How do you folks to the balance transfer to the mortgage offset account?

We've got 2x credit cards (regular transaction card and unused - 28degrees) and BOM mortgage loan account.
When applying do I just put the 28 degrees credit card $10000 for balance transfer?
After the balance transfer is succesful to the new St George cc. Do I just transfer the surplus from the 28 degrees card to mortgage loan account?
is this how you do this to make money?

What will happen to the new St George account? no interest until 9 months? is this right and no repayment?

    • it depends on the bank, you can just request the balance transfer to any other credit card account, they do not check whether you are in debt or not, they will just transfer the fund.
The tricky way is whether you can withdraw the money.
Some bank allows you just use internet banking to transfer the fund, some doesnt but allow you to do a cash in advance. some other just block your account.

also, your card credit limit is always lower if you request a balance transfer.
