Why do Dell call this "ultra-sharp" when it is actually less sharp than cheaper TN-panel full-HD monitors?
What is the advantage, aside form colour accuracy?
And who cares about colour? Colours are very different in sunlight, incandescent or floro, but your
      eyes compensate, and don't notice.

Why do Dell call this “ultra-sharp” when it is actually less sharp than cheaper TN-panel full-HD monitors?

Ultra Sharp is the branding of Dell's more-featured monitors, i.e. inbuilt USB hub and height-adjustable/swivel/pivot stand. Not much in 22" but 24" Ultra Sharp monitors have a lot more connectivity options than the basic ones.

It's interesting that people don't care about what the company did in past. Then we expect they care about us as a customer!

    • +4

C'mon get it over! This site is all about deals not about revenge or hatred etc. If there is a great deal for everyone, no one will lose, we won't and Dell won't. The only one will lose will be just you.

      • Which is the reason why Dell gets away with your dumb shit antics all the time.

        • Just swear to yourself not to buy Dell forever! But we will still see dumb shit buying from Dell one day. Remembering people's wrongdoing isn't a good practice that we should have. Learn to forgive, I am sure that Dell had given you more deals than the mistakes that they made. It is just something stupid, for e.g. Dell has 20 good deals but no one will remember for too long and 1 or 2 mistakes, thats it for them.

Just like COTD, they made mistakes too but those dumb shit still gave them a + and buy their Logitech Wave Pro. Eversince no ones remember about the B'day Bash and no one talks bad about COTD. As I said before, just hold on to your dumb shit thinking and you will the only LOSER in this world and also in OzBargain.

@williamfslee: COTD sux, I bought a few things from them in the past but never again.

          • @williamfslee: dell must love you.

          • -1

@williamfslee: Good example! I bought some little stuffs from COTD, my only experience with them became last one because all products were low quality. That was it, no more money for COTD. And sure I will share the experience with every one ask me about them. Because I think this is what will make the difference in long run.

Let's put it this way. Are you ready to pay couple of dollar more for Australian made goods? I certainly am. Why? because I think it helps Australian manufacturers. Not for any price but for a reasonable price I will and I do. (although I'm not Australian , but just because I live in Australia)
Now, here we have a company that just don't care about customers and you are happy to get a couple of dollars discount that eventually help them to continue their wrong behavior. I won't buy anything from Dell or advertise in any shape or form for them for same reason. And yes I understand that it may means I will lose couple of dollars but in a broader picture I'm the winner.
Companies specially bigger ones, are always playing with people just because we are not together , we are disconnected and just thinking about those 5-10 bucks we can gain. Any way that's my idea and you are free to think your way.
I have ONE VOTE and it will be always negative for Dell, unless I see them change.

        • Which LCD brand is good quality & made in Australia? I will get an LCD for my stimulus 900 bucks.

        • I'm ready to deposit my disposable cash on a Australian made LCD screen. Tell me which one.

        • While I understand your reasoning, you are being quite unreasonable.

I'd like to point out one BIG flaw in your plan. I currently know of NO brand of LCD or LCD panels that are made OR assembled in Australia. Go ahead - check the one you're using. If you can name a couple of made in Australia LCDs that are readily available (and at a sensible price), I'm sure your point would be more valid. Until then, please refrain from making unconstructive comments.

          • -3

@fufufu: I really tried hard to make my point as clear as possible, but it seems that I failed!
Did you really think that I mean go buy an Australian made monitor when there isn't any particular Australian manufacturer in this category (though it's unfortunate that threre isn't any as far as I know) ?!
That was my analogy to make my point.
It means: As same as our try to support Australian product just because we believe supporting them means supporting Australia, buying from a responsible company in a long term means support for Australian customer and healthy competition. In contrast buying from a fraudulent company like Dell means continues of their wrong behavior and support of their wrong doing as far as they give you couple of dollars benefit. I wish I could made things more clear this time.

            • @Danielj: So what do you suggest then? Buy Samsung? BENQ? Acer?

As far as I know, all companies have their share of complaints. I detest Dell for having done (over and over) their pricing "mistakes". But those mistakes have nothing to do with this bargain.

In fact, IMO Dell offers great service in Australia. If you are unhappy with a product's quality they'll gladly send another one your way quite fast (usually within a couple of days).

Another thing is that you mentioned other manufacturers also producing high quality panels (I assume you mean 8 bit, non-TN). That is true. But at what price?
$319 for 22"? I don't think so. Try getting a monitor like this for "5-10 dollars more" from another manufacturer.

“exaggerate the quality”? I don’t think so. Check the review link and feedback on Whirlpool.

You say that some people won't need the more accurate colour reproduction. That may very well be true. But for similar money they can buy another monitor of the same size that won't look as good, does that mean this is not a bargain?

              • @fufufu: Buy everything you like. I can only share my opinion, every body read and make their own mind.
I was Dell customer before but not any more. They have no interest in customers satisfaction what so ever.

Personally I prefer to buy from other manufacturers, in fact those who also produce panels are more reliable.

                • +1

@Danielj: hi mate you got my positive vote, i don't bother to place any order to dell as i've no idea what's a genuine bargain or a genuine mistake.

  • Which is the better monitor? 2333SW or 2209WA?

    • Unless you want up to 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, the Dell 2209WA would be the better monitor.

The Dell 2209WA has the better IPS panel (2333SW has TN panel) with better colours and viewing angles. The Dell also has height-adjustable stand, swivel and pivot and 4 USB ports.

so true, please stick to the purpose of this site

  • there are numerous offers on the market for a comparable 22" LCD monitors selling well below $300, dell's one is not a good deal at all.

    • +2

This is an 8bit panel which is why it is so expensive, uses IPS and not the TN panel technology cheaper monitors do. For people who rely on colour accuracy this is a good monitor. Also - 'Height-adjustable stand, tilt, swivel, pivot' - much better than the tilt normal 22's have.

Still expensive for a 22", but it is an Ultra Sharp, so it's quality.

      • well this may be a good bargain for the graphic designer, but not for average home user.
for the gamers, this may even be a poor monitor due to its slow response time.

        • The days of response time being a problem are long gone - when monitors were 24ms and 16ms there might have been issues but they don't exist nowadays.

          • @cyssero: That's what I'm trying to say.
As a graphic designer whose concern is color accuracy, this may be a good bargain. But as an average home user, I can't notice much difference between IPS and TN panels.
Similarly as an extreme gamer whose concern is response time, this is not a good monitor although an average home user or grahic designer can't notice much difference in the response time.
As such, both IPS or TN have their pro and con, and in my humble opinion it is not justify to say this is a good bargain.

  • Thje resolution isnt the best

    • That's because it's a 22"…

      • -1

which is by no means a small monitor

        • Practically all 22" monitors are 1650 x 1080. This is a good monitor at a great price. I don't see why you would vote someone down just because it's not for everyone. Using that kind of logic i would mod down every pizza coupon because i don't like pizza

  • -7

benq 21.5" full hd hdmi for only $239 is much better.

    • That's certainly true, provided crappy TN panels are your thing :)

      • -2

well it does more than a good job for me, at 2ms and a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

        • +2

Well everyone's standards don't need to be as low as yours.

  • Not many people understand that Dell monitors are relatively more expensive than other TN panels with same size out there.

This came at the perfect time for me since I'm redesigning my desktop set up using wall mounts and I am a photographer I will be needing 3 monitors, CNET describes this IPS panel as the best 22" monitor they have seen…rating of 9/10 from both editor/consumers.

    • -1

Dell isn't among panel manufacturers, so there is no need to exaggerate the quality of their product. NEC, Samsung, Apple,… all have decent professional monitors too. Understanding quality isn't something special. The issue is that not every body needs high accuracy in color production.

  • Not about revenge…hmmmmmm….. Nah, stuff it i'm still pissed about that Mouse deal before!!!!

  • +1

TN is ok for most people if they like to view only 256, 000 colours.

My mobile phone displays more colours (16.7 ,million) then those nasty TN panels. So paying a little extra for an IPS panel such as this is worth it for people who would like their monitors they stare at all day display more colours then their mobile phones. I certainly would, I paid $800 for my 24inch Dell 12 months ago ultra sharp and is worth every penny.

  • +3

    I don't think this is a good deal…

  • Danielj, you need to go and get some counselling re that little mouse DELL didn't supply you rather than use the comments as a substitute.

  • Prolly sold out or a "genuine pricing error" if too many people order them.

  • Its not a pricing error, coz its not a remarkable price. If your spending the $900 stimilus go for the 24" ultrasharp which is about $800 after discounts rather then the $999 rrp. :)

  • I don't really care what you guys say…because I've just BOUGHT MYSELF ONE!!! :D:D:D
