Good deal. It's worth to pay +30 to get HD 7 rather than 1200x600.

  • Hard Drive Size 16GB SSD? Not flash?

HD version is quite the step up from the regular version and alot more for your buck

Yeah quad core CPU vs single, better camera, higher resolution.

I definitely agree with this. For the minor price increase you get a lot more for your money

  • How does the HD 7 stack up against the Aldi 8" for $169 (http://www.bauhn.com.au/Products/Micro-Audio-System-%283%29.…?

    • Baun 8" is with low resolution and front camra is VGA(.3mp).

      • Correct, but how bad is the Bauhn? I might grab a Bauhn and take it to HN to physically compare, given Aldi have a 60 day no questions asked return policy.

        • Bauhn - 3G capability, Dual core, 8GB storage, 1024 x 768 pixels (8 inch)
ASUS HD - Wifi only, quad core, 16GB storage, 1280 x 800 pixels (7 inch)

The ASUS is definitely much better in terms of performance and screen PPI but obviously it lacks 3g capability.

But if you want the best of both worlds, then you might be interested in the Ainol Novo 7 AX1.
It has a Quad MTK8389 Quad Core, 8GB storage, 1024*600 pixel (7 inch) and has 3G (850mhz / 2100mhz) to boot. Only costs $149 USD.

  • Alternative option if you want a cheap HD tablet,
    http://www.merimobiles.com/colorfly-e708-q1-_p/meri7937.htm

Currently, the cheapest HD tablet in China $399 RMB = $68 USD.

    • Wow!! That's an impressive quad core machine for $88 !

      • Yep, the only downside is the battery otherwise I would have bought it. However, you can use a portable power bank to overcome the battery issue.

    • Can someone please post back if they have this tab .Or buy one and post back if its any good.

You will find heaps of reviews.

        • lol my Chinese is not up to scratch.

  • Maybe you guys should wait till the Intel Sub $100 tablet to be released end of this year.

    http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2293898/intel-atom-…

    • Because they are Intel I am wondering whether we can put Windows 8 on it?

      • Quoted from the article:

"We can provide the same form factor to an OEM and they can choose between Windows [or] Android, Core [or] Atom"

  • Is this better than nexus 7 version 1

  • Is this better than the dick smith acer tablet a few days ago?

    • This tablet is slower than both the Acer and the Nexus 7 2012 that was featured last week.

The HD version of the ASUS tablet is worth getting over the non-HD version, since it also features a MTK 8125 quad core CPU that puts it on par with the Acer ICONIA A1-810. The Non-HD variant uses a pretty sluggish VIA processor.

  • Here is a spec comparison of the non-HD and HD versions:
    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5249&idPhone2=…

  • Anyone know if the HD is the same physical size as the 172, thus meaning the cases are the compatible with both?
