Ipad 4 $397 - ipad 5 $579 (my personal guess - after the recent price increases of the iPhone and iMac) … so I personally go for the iPad4. (As thats in my opinion more than a few $$$ … )
Ipad 5 will be faster, a little smaller/lighter - maybe a fingerprint sensor - but will do everything what your iPad4 does … so when you want the latest and greatest go for the new model (I agree that it will be announced soon).

I was torn between going for the iPad Mini to save $100 versus going for this deal. I went for this one, because it has the A6x dual core processor that'll be more future friendly than an iPad mini that essentially has the iPad 2 hardware.

iPad 4 Wifi 16GB was released with RRP $539 on Oct 15, 2012.
It is September 27, 2013 now.
Its value should be $539 - $150 x (347/365) = $539 - $142.60 = $396.40
Officeworks is selling it for $397, still 60c more than its current value.
According to this formulation, ipad 1 should be under $10 (?). Love to get some for my son who keep washing his ipad under a tap to clean it and leave it out in the garden overnight…. he is on his third ipad now!!! :)

When you place the order there is a red exclaimation mark, and if you mouse over it, it tells you the item is out of stock but can be places on back order.

Was going to pick one up from there but ended up getting JB to price match so i could use a JB card i was given. Thanksfully they were the 4th JB i tried and they finally price matched. But thanks for the eads up as it helped me get the deal. JB's werent interested in OW's price saying it was online only.

Wouldn't bet on it. Going past record, the preceded iPad is rarely retailed for any more than $100 less the price of the latest. Even if we go with $497 for iPad 5 (unlikely judging by the price hike with new iPhone and Mac), the best would be on par with the offering here.
It all depends on what the specs will be, it's gambling on wether Apple will disappoint or not.
If it follows the previous ipad models in providing a beefed up version of the iPhone upgrades then it will be worth it. A 64bit processor will add a heap of grunt, however if they don't go 64bit then I don't think the upgrade will be worth it.
That's another story. I'm simply saying that if people are waiting for iPad 5 release in hope of further price reduction on the 4, then they may as well take the plunge now.

Yes! But with iPad 4 performance, it can do various tasks perfectly and smoothly. If you already got the macbook or the high end smart phone, Ipad 4 should be the best choice with that price, save a lots hahah I ordered one from OW. Maybe get it on Monday or Tuesday. :)
Not likely. With iPad Mini as a product line of its own, Apple may as well discontinue iPad 2 and iPad 4 outright when the iPad 5 is launched. They did this with the iPad 3 and you could barely find it anywhere afterwards. Even when you did, the price wasnt low enough to justify buying it when you could get one generation ahead for around $100 more.
Personally I've been on the lookout for a new gen Ipad within a $400 budget for months, and the best I could score on gumtree would often be iPad 2s or maybe iPad 3s. This deal from DSE and OW was perfect timing and I've bought one as a bday gift for my partner. As much as a new Nexus 7 wouldve been a better specced toy, this is an Apple iPad with Retina at a terrific pricepoint. And with a jailbreak, this'll be just nuts!
Jailbreaking iOS 7 will be hard. Also, as you can no longer get SHSH for iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 (and correct me if I am wrong, I don't think there is a untethered jailbreak for 6.1.3), it will not be easy to jailbreak, even with iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4.
While iOS 7 has some nice features, the general smoothness you get with Apple devices in iOS 6 is not there yet on iOS 7 (and I certainly hope Apple fix it soon).
I tried two iPad 4's and iPhone 4S (as well as iPhone 5S) at an Apple store. I feel iPad 4's are not as smooth on iOS 7, compared to iOS 6. Experienced several delays with multi-finger gestures, task switching. Even worse for 4S. Even with the flagship 5S, there is still a bit of a delay (try double clicking the home button repeatedly with 0.5 second gap (back in iOS 6, all devices respond accurately with no delay). Also, once you unlock the home screen, you need to wait for the animation to finish before iOS 7 responds to your double click.
It would have been much nicer if Apple gave people a choice of using iOS 6 and iOS 7. iOS 7 still need a lot of performance improvement.

That's why my iPad is till on 5.1 :)Partly Agree. Here's hoping that OW and DSE are trying to clear out old stock with ios6 preinstalled. If that's the case I wont bother upgrading to ios7, especially because the rumours are out there that a jailbreak is well underway for 6.1.3+.
More than that I don't think my partner and I will have much utility for ios7. The most important thing about an iPad is the idiotproof UI and iTunes apps that just work. Frankly we dont need a flashy UI to run safari and gmail or to stream music and videos via AirPlay.
Jailbreaking would just be an added bonus, then I can install XBMC and use my home DLNA without being constrained by how Apple wants me to experience and use the device. If not, my expectations are low enough that I wont mind being restricted to the 'Apple Experience'.
On the whole if idiot-friendiness wasn't an issue, the 2013 Nexus 7 would be the way to go. The specs are just that new, and Android is just so much more versatile. But Google Play Store still lacks quite a few specialised apps that I find useful from the iTunes App Store.

Assuming Apple store price match OW (they should), Apple store is the best place to buy (since getting a full refund within 14 days from Apple is easy).However, after trying out iOS 7 at Apple store, I am quite disappointed. Apple better fix iOS 7 performance issue soon. Honestly, who cares about those boring animation effects (respond to my commands is more important than showing me some animation which I don't give a damn). The new flat icons are ugly anyway.
Recommendation: before you buy, better try out iOS 7. I hope you get the iOS 6 version of the devices (at least that way, you can still choose between iOS 6 and iOS 7, but once you upgraded to iOS 7, there is no turning back).

I was of the impression that you could actually roll back to IOS 6 from 7. At least thats what i read the oter day.
You used to be able to (when Apple was still signing the SHSH for iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4). However, that has stopped for a week now so it is no longer possible.
For those who have SHSH backed up before Apple stopped signing iOS 6 SHSH, rolling back is still possible.
So for people who just bought iPads, once you upgrade to iOS 7, a rollback is not possible.
Went into JB yesterday and they wouldn't price match, but the Good Guys had no issues as the OW pricing was updated on their system. No need to wait, walked out with a fresh one.
After unsuccsfully tring to get JB Hifi thomastown, Plenty Valley and Northland Home Maker centre to price match OW's price(had a JB voucher i wanted to use), JB Northland shopping centre quite happily price matched OW. The unpleasant sales people at the first stores were just plain un-coperative(making every excuse under the sun as to why they couldnt price match), The 3rd was more upfront, rather than wasting my time, simply stating that the menager just couldnt do it. Baffles me though that some will do it and some wont. Anyway walked away with a brand spanky new Ipad 4 with IOS6 and couldnt be happier. Picked up a case from BigW for half price so all done and dusted.

Just received a call from my local OW saying my ipads had arrived.
Anyone who's moved from an older Ipad 1 to Ipad 4 noticed that the wireless reception is much weaker? Using my Ipad in a part of the house where the old Ipad 1 had no issues, the Ipad 4 constantly shows only 1 bar and frequently drops out completely. Ive read some threads online about similar complaints, suggesting its a random component issue, but wanted to see if anyone locally has experienced this.
If i wanted to get this looked at who do i go to? The retailer or just contact Apple directly?
Either go to Apple (as they do have free wireless access - so you can even try there). Or, if you have multiple routers, or one of your mates has multiple routers. Try a different one.
Sometimes, some tablets / phones could have incompatibility issue with certain router/chipset. If you have a Broadcom chip based router, try that. I found Broadcom chipset tends to have less compatibility issues.
If you are on iOS 7.0.0, upgrade to iOS 7.0.2 first. iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 should be okay.

An update on this, was told by Amanda on Officeworks's Facebook page that stock is expected to arrive next Tuesday, so I should have it by next Wednesday.
Lucky I am not too fussed about it so I can wait.

Just got off the phone with them, I needed to update them with my mobile number so that I get informed when they have it ready for pickup. When asked about the order status, the operator said that my item is on back order (black iPad 4) and that they are expecting the item to reach my nominated store in 10 business days. He said for orders in Victoria it will be 10 business days.
My order confirmation email stated a delivery date for tomorrow initially.
Just to let you all know the ipad I received from OW was running 6.1.3. Those that have to wait a few weeks will probably receive ipads with 7.0
Would any of these actually come with 7 pre-loaded? After all, the products we're receiving, even the back ordered ones, would most likely already be at least a minimum of 6-8 weeks old when you take into consideration manufacturing and shipping or existing stock piles either in Oz or US!
FYI - I called Officeworks because my iPad order stated 1/10/2013 for delivery. She just said that they are on backorder… I said it wasn't on backorder when I bought it!!!! Anyway… pretty much they are getting to OW warehouse on Tuesday 8/10.. and then couple of days for it to be shipped to my store… So I'm guessing around 14 October… at least I'm not in any rush.. might be the same for others..? (Am in NSW)
