Considering how many tab deals have been on ozbargain lately you would be crazy to buy an ipad mini even at this price. Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy, Asus iconia are all good for kids/tech illiterate mother in laws (and heaps cheaper!)

I'm in Adelaide Apple store now, they won't price match this as it's more than 20% off (26.3%) their $539 retail price. Then they called Office Works and said they also can't match because it's an online-only deal.

Last time I attempted to get a ~20% off price match on a 15" MBP Retina at Apple Sydney, one of the managers told me the most he was able to do was 15% and he advised me to buy from the other store (which had stock). YMMV. :)

I would not rely on officeworks to keep it at this price after the dick smith promotion runs out. They are very aware of the competition
Though they did bring their price to match DSE earlier, they took it back up as soon as stock ran out at DSE. However, they have reduced it again - not sure why. Maybe, reducing stock for the new release.
Apple are heading closer towards their goal of iPads and iPhones always being released 6 months apart. iPads are for March and iPhones are for September, iPad sales will rise again for Christmas and so they get the benefit of selling large numbers when the manufacture cost has dropped slightly.
The iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are a little way off yet.
Pretty sure when they released the iPad 4 last year in October, the plan was to move the new iPad releases to just before xmas, so more people have an excuse to gift them when they are brand new.
Hence now both iPhones & iPads get announced around the same time. Would expect a new iPad announcement in the next month or so.

I have seen in the past OW react quick when other retailers dropped price on goods such as the WD Live TV.
I suspect that as a few people have stated that they have rang OW about match Dick Smiths price they have quickly reacted and changed their price to save 5%.I was on the phone to them at 8:20am. This is good because this allows more people to cash in at these lower prices.

Wouldn't it be better to wait?That depends on its specs, if it's going to have a 64bit processor improved processor and more ram then yes… If it's just a slightly updated chip and a fingerprint scanner then no.
No official word on the specs yet though so it's tough to tell.
Although I think they are bound to improve the front facing camera to match the iPhone 5S, have a A7X (64bit) processor, 2gb of ram and a fingerprint scanner it's also possible that they don't want to spend that much and skimp somewhere.Thanks. I would guess it will be $579 matching the recent price increases of the iPhone and new iMac. So might be a good deal to buy the Version 4 right now …

After payment, straight walk to the customer service counter and say "hang on a second, DSE and OW are selling them 100 cheaper".. by Policy, they should give you 120 dollar back. Not sure if they will also give you a finger in the air straight after you walk out..

Since the order is after 11.30, the stock gets delivered from the warehouse to the store so I have been told Monday. Apparently, they don't stock iPads in all stores for sale so everything comes as ordered.

It'll be iOS6 out of box. It will be compatible with iOS7 if you then choose to upgrade it.
Depends on the stock. Could be iOS 6. However, since it is now listed on OZB, you might end up getting the new stock, which would be on iOS 7.
Once you go iOS7, you can't go back!!

I were a fan of Officeworks. However, I contacted them in this morning for price matching with DSE.
They said the iPad is out of stock and they can't do the price matching. I thought it is a reasonable.30 mins later, they changed the price and let customers order it online!

Looking for better stores.Not all Officeworks stores carry iPads. I rang my local Officeworks (Dee Why) when their website went down and was told that they did not carry the iPad 4 in stock, it had to be ordered online and sent to the store.
Mind you, this was the same store that refused to pricematch Harvey Norman's $318 Nexus 7 32gb's because of "loss prevention", so I'm not really sure if I want to be defending them in this instance.

They should renew their advertised policy to:

I have just ordered the ipad 4 black 16gb wifi from officeworks. It's on backorder but should get it at most 2 weeks according to the call centre… I am in no rush as I have the mini already :)
