Amazon is offering one of the best air cooled 7970's on the market for starting from $299 with international shipping from Amazon. I haven't checked shipping costs but it should be around $20 for standard delivery if i remember. Someone please check.

The 7970's are going cheap now though are no means weak since it competes with the 770 GTX which are overclocked 680 GTX's at a lower price. I recommend the ASUS and HIS version posted as is from the online tech community due to low noise, good overclocking parts and low temps.

Amd coupon's included.

Here's a AMD Sapphire 7950 for $209.99 USD http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-DisplayPort-PCI-Express-Graph…

Seems they are discounting before the HD 9xxx series is announced in 3 days time, instead of after. They can probably clear more stock this way.

I wonder if we should buy now, if so, or if more/better discounts will appear then?

GTX 750 ti will likely be announced a week or so after that, too…

    • +4

Amd has decided to drop the 9XXX naming scheme and will adapt something along the lines of R9 2XX which seems like something from a sci-fi movie. The Haiwaii islands will also be 28nm which means that the new gen will most likely be 20-30% faster. It's a good deal if you are crossfiring or if you are going for a cheap deal since the low ends are getting discounted as such.

      • +3

The high end model will most likely be introduced first which will cost perhaps between a 770GTX and a 780Gtx which equates to $400~700 since it is speculated to surpass the 780 GTX. It will take at least a month before prices will settle so it's up to you if you want to wait. The 750ti should be around a 660ti since the 760 is similar to the 670 Gtx.

Actually, all of them include the game downloads. You can check the participating graphics cards from here:

    • +2

      Thanks for verifying.

    • A point on that, the Ghz editions don't come with the free games but the OC edition (which this offer is) does.

Hmm… Anandtech bench says 7970 is only around 20% or so faster than 7950:
    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/508?vs=550

…and 7950s have already gone below $200 in the US.

So looks like I'll wait and see if 7950s hit $200 or so locally soon. Hell of a card for that price.

Also curious how much the GTX 750 ti will go for. Should be a faster than a 660 and possibly $150 or so? We'll find out in a week or two…

    Items: AUD 342.53
    Shipping & handling: AUD 20.95

    Order total: AUD 363.48

    • Thanks. The exchange rate kills it a bit though but the Asus Direct CU II is still a bargain at that price and for the moment being.

  • Great price. Wont recommend ASUS HD7970 though. Mine crush several times when I'm playing ROMEII. Default setting, no OC at all.

Haha, contacted Amazon support to see if the 7950 was included in the AMD never settle promotion, as it wasn't on the page.

"Upon checking it does not include the promotion.
It is only for the "Gold", "Silver" and "Bronze". And the item that you are referring is Sapphire.
Is there anything else that I may assist you today?"

    • +8

Haha, that's gold. Err I mean sapphire.

I bought the Sapphire card (worked out to be ~$252 AUD after currency conversion and Citibank fees) last week, and received a coupon code.

    • Please take a screenshot and submit to reddit.com/r/buildapc

  • Got all excited, thought it was $309 for 3 Gigabyte 7970's. Realised that the 'x3' was referring to the fans!

  • Best to wait for the new AMD GPU's - AMD will definitely include a new batch of FREE games!!

    • +2

AMD have stated the free games coupon can be used for any free games that are released in the promotion until Dec or something. That means if you save your coupon til then, you could get newer games.

    • +1

      Hopefully includes BF4

You should put the price in AUD in the title. It's really AUD 363.48 including delivery and currency conversion as bentan77 said above.

Still cheaper than MSY and probably other retailers locally, but not as ridiculous savings as I'd hoped :(

Isn't Radeon supposed to be one number ahead of nVidia?

When Radeon were on 7000 series, nvidia were on 600 series. nVidia are now on 700 series, so shouldn't Radeon be on 8000 series by now? Or have they given up their relevance?

    • Yeah I don't know how it's the 7000 series either. I bought myself a HIS AMD Radeon 7950 3GB for $259 just over a year ago. Have ATI not released a new series in the last year? Looked up the price of the 7950s and they are more expensive then when I picked my card up last year… which is basically a first for me. Usually they have dropped in price within a week or two.

I'm desperately wanting to upgrade this card. Happy to spend around the $300 mark, but would like a considerable upgrade from what I have. That said, the price on this card looks great compared to a couple of PC shops I checked out locally. $479 at PC Case Gear… so even if it comes out to close to $370 with shipping it's a saving of over $100 compared to purchasing locally. That's over 20% off.

      • Yeah most computer gear has gone up in price over the last year. The movement in exchange rate has killed it for us. Last generation of Intel cpu have risen in price also, even though they have been replaced. If the exchange rate was still up there we would be seeing 7950s at $200 and 7970s around $320 most likely.

The gigabyte 7970 is $390 at PCCG and the ASUS DCUII advertised here is not the exact same model as the "DCUII TOP" $480 one PCCG. Just FYI. I'd say this is a fair deal, but not a good one when you consider that no local warranty is offered.

      • How do you find the HD7950 generally?

I'm so close to biting the bullet and getting one, but I've been so happy with my asus GTX 550 ti that I'm hesitant about going back to AMD.

        • It's a decent enough card. I had a GTX460 before it and it was a pretty massive step up from that… but video cards are a part I like to upgrade every year if possible. Don't like having any computer parts longer then 2 years in my main machine. But everytime I look to upgrade, there seems to be little or no point now. I compare the benchmarks of current CPU's to my 2500k i bought a couple of years ago, and a similar priced CPU today is no better. Have to spend $1000+ for the same upgrade I got from my E6600 to 2500k.

They are having the launch for there new cards tomorrow. They have been more relevant over the last 2 years than they have for quite a while. This should continue with their new series, but we will find out soon enough.

    Powercolor Radeon HD7970 3GB OC $359 + P&H $20
    http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…

it had $50 off until this week, so close to $330 delivered before the offer ended FYI

I think wait for sales AFTER the release of the new cards

IVE ALSO BEEN VERY SAD HOW SLOW OLD CARDS HAVE NOT DROPPED IN PRICE, its killed the PC desktop industry!

For this sort of money id buy a xbox1 or new sony PS4 before a standalone gfx card!

    • You should have posted this deal!

  • Just a quick note, that the rebate is only valid for people who live in the US. Read the Terms & Conditions.
"Offer only valid in the US (including Puerto Rico). Rebate Payable in US Dollars for US Residents."

It will be about AU$360 for the item inc shipping to Oz.

OP, please update your post title and description accordingly.

Compared to buying it in Australia: They go for $400+ according to StaticIce, if you live in NSW. If you're in WA, then they start at $450+, even if you buy if from over east and ship it over, so you can save about $90.

    • Updated.

    • It's $395 at MSY around the country. I think they are in WA, but I'm not sure.

      • True. But both shops in WA are out of stock.

If you buy sapphire branded cards from amazon usa, you can still get warranty locally from sapphire.

I believe xfx also does this but not sure.

Asus and gigabyte definitely do not do that.

Just so everyone is aware, the Gigabyte 7970's are completely voltage locked, and can barely overclock. You can edge the core clock speed up maybe 20mhz, but no more. Memory you can get up to about 1500mhz max.

Flashing a new BIOS won't help, nor will any software voltage unlocks using MSI Afterburner or anything along those lines.

I regret buying the Gigabyte model. The fans are great, and the 7970 card itself is an excellent performing card (even without overclocking) however seeing other people easily push the other brands to 1200/1600 with only a slight voltage bump, and seeing how this one is completely locked down, I'd never recommend it, nor will I be buying Gigabyte video cards again in the future. When you spend $400 you expect enthusiast level equipment.

Edit: I should add that early releases (revision 1.0) of this card were not voltage locked, which is why most reviewers from 2012 have given it a decent score. The above only relates to revision 2.1 and later, which is mostly late 2012 and all 2013 batches.

better value is this nvidia GTX 680 for $379

    http://www.computeralliance.com.au/nvidia-gtx680-oc-2gb-msi-…

for $10 more this is a much faster card according to the benchmarks! Only the 770 is a little faster but at over $500 for a few percent
