ORIGINAL POST
For some reason, Lenovo is offering a hefty $165 discount if you select the "Arctic Blue" display colour when configuring the E330. There are three base configurations on offer - this applies the the i3-3120M and i5-3230M models (the i3-3110M cannot be reconfigured).

After changing the screen to Arctic Blue, the standard coupons also apply. For the i3-3120M, you can use SEPWELC2013 coupon. For the i5-3230M, the E330DEAL coupon provides a slightly bigger discount on the base config, while SEPWELC2013 may be better if you add upgrades.

  • Would be interesting to find out if you can swap the HDD for a SSD.

    • Yep - Just need to find an SSD deal and this laptop!

Edit: Thanks for the great find, i've been on the hunt for a laptop.

  • Hello Guys

thanks great deal bought the I3 for $336

  • +5

just chat with their sales, and they said its not a price error
its an offer price for e531
    just order 1 too :D

    • we are not disputing the codes are correct. What most people are referring to is the cheaper price for the FHD screen, which I don't think the sales dep have been made aware

      • +1

yeah i also asked her, are you absolutely sure fhd its cheaper than the hd? what makes it cheaper? they said its an offer price, and its not worng…cross finge XD

        • When you select it it subtracts around $179 from the price.

        • +1

          We know. ;]

  • +1

Picked up the $336 deal as well. Might end up with a few though as my first CC payment attempt seemed to hang, then PayPal 'could not be accepted', but third time lucky with the CC seemed to work and got to the order confirmation page. :)

  • +5

Please don't forget to give + to OP as well

  • +1

they only charge $1 so far in our credit card as authorisation. The full remaining amount will be charge once their team verify our order. Hope this is not to say that since they haven't fully charge us they can rightly refuse our orders. Just purchased one even though i don't really need it. Damn Ozbargain…

    • -1

same here. I only bought the E531 for the sake of having FHD screen at no extra charge (which I believe it is an error in their check-out calculation)! Paid $336.6 AUD. Hopefully, they will honor the sale.

      • I just ordered and received my email from Lenovo. Pertinent statement in the email is:

Lenovo accepts your order by 1) shipping the hardware product or making the software product available to you, or 2) providing the service. Confirmation by this email on Lenovo's receipt of your order does not constitute Lenovo's acceptance of your order. Lenovo reserves the right to refuse to sell a product to any customer for any reason, or to limit the number of units to a particular product that a customer may buy at any one time. If we do not accept your order we will notify you by phone or email; your credit card payment will not be processed or your direct deposit will be refunded.

The bold is me emphasizing the statement.
In essence, they can refuse to sell for any any reason, a price error will give them the reason should customers push back and want a reason.

        • Update: they have charged my credit card $336.6 + $1 for the authorization fee (not sure if they will refund me the $1).

      • -1

And I get negged for saying that. Funny stuff.

  • Best Ozbargain in a long time! I'm posting this from an i3 G570 which I've been happy with so I ordered an E531. Looking forward to comparing these side by side, and if I like the E531, I'll stick my SSD in there and sell the G570.

My order came to €336.60 with the noise cancelling ear buds. Lets hope they honour it.

    • +15

      336.60 Euro's? You got ripped

      • +2

haha no idea how I managed that :)

    • you mean AUD right :d

      • Of course!

  • +1

Bit the bullet on the E531 and came back 20 mins later to also get the E330 i5 for 414.90 - Hopefully they are both honored. Now to find a use for two more laptops.

    • +4

Good now go to see a dentist.

  • Just purchased 2 E531
    Total: AU$673.20

  • Thanks OP! Really hoping this isn't a pricing error.
Got the E531 (changed to FHD screen) with Earbuds = $336.60

Guys don't get i5 3120m over i3 3230m the reasoning being it is not worth it as both CPU's are dual cores with 4 threads, retail price of $225USD each, the only difference with the i5 is it is clocked 100MHz faster and has turbo that can boost from 2.6GHz to 3.2GHz, both on die GPU’s are clocked at the same speed.

    • +1

      This ^

Absolutely right, not worth the extra $77 for the i5 considering they are both 4 threads. Pretty much same thing in general.

      Anyway, got myself an E531 $336.60 and and E330 $352.53 (added 2x2 ABGN for a 7 bucks)

    • +4

I read your post once again and I think its 'i5 3230m over i3 3120m'

      • Yep your right.

    • Was almost committed to the upgrade then read your advice. Thanks very much.

    • Thanks for posting this mate, I had the i5 in my cart, deleted it and got the i3 instead

    • +1

Ordered an i5 way before your post.
Regretting it now as I should've upgraded straight i7.
      :,(

    • where you get that 100mhz faster? Lenovo state 700mhz faster which should be i5-3230m from i3-3120m. That's 28% increment in clock speed. And 9 ppls agree you?

      • +2

the i3 is clocked @ 2.5GHz and the other is @ 2.6GHz, the i5 has Turbo boost which allows the CPU to boost up to 3.2Ghz temporally under intensive workloads. You are practically getting the same Ivy Bridge CPU, you will be stupid to pay the extra $77 if you ask me.

        Here are the differences:

        i3: http://ark.intel.com/products/71465
        i5: http://ark.intel.com/products/72164

The only reason that is an i5 is that it has turbo no extra cores or threads, just a slight frequency boost that is it.

        • no matter what it called turbo or speedstep, the clock speed different is 28% for actual usage, that's a big improvement, lots of overclocker spent hundreds still cannot achieve that scores. Of cause physically all m series cpu are exactly same thing, but if the app don't utilize more than 2 threads, the improvement is noticeable. Worth the $70 or not, really depend on what's your purpose, but if compare to i7m, that's a bargain.

Personally I put my investment on decent SSD instead of CPU, but that's only for general use, when you need higher clock, $70 well worth the money.

        • +2

have you actually used turbo boost?

it only boosts when its cold so unless you live in the snow, it will never be on turbo boost all the time.

For my ultrabook, it boosts for a the few seconds it takes to heat up from idle (40c) to full load (64c) The boost stops after it hits 60c

        • Thanks for the info! I never check when will turbo boost kick in.
So turbo boost is useless for laptop, but good for desktop with huge heatsink.

        • Had to login just to tell you that you are misinformed.

Only badly made laptops will throttle back down when it gets to certain temperatures. Reviews of the lenovo all say they saw zero throttling even when running prime95 for 3 hours straight.

        • Personally I consider Turbo boost to be the 'stock clock' and the stock to be idle.

Otherwise my Core i5-2500K is still a 3.3GHz CPU even though the TURBO is overclocked to 4.5GHz and it regularly sits on 4.5GHz.

I agree with leetec though, an SSD is probably money better spent than the CPU upgrade - unfortunately I already ordered mine with the i5 before remembering mSATA SSDs exist. :\

      http://www.cpubenchmark.net/laptop.html
      Intel Core i5-3230M: 4022 score
      Intel Core i3-3110M: 3063 score

so massive difference in performance, the i5 is 30% faster

      • +3

        http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-3120M+…

        It's the 3120M, making the i5 22% faster

        • Thanks for the performance specs.

Decided to buy the faster i5 as well after buying the i3 earlier in the day. I think that 22% speed differences is borderline but went for it anyway. Guess it depends on how easily the turbo boost gets activated and how often?

Hopefully I can cancel the i3 on Monday. Otherwise I can prob. still return it when [if:-)] it arrives. Here's hoping the deal goes through!

      • My calculator says +-25%ish

  • damm, probably will get charged for two

    • relax, 1 dollar for credit card charge, 0.9 dollar for earphones (after discount), 335.7 for the laptop. Have fun!!!

  • -1

Is it worth paying the extra for the i5?

    • +2

      No, read senator's post above.

      • I decided on the i5 was worth it for me though the i7 was not because it cost so much more.

    • +3

The max i'll pay extra is $10 not $77.

      • +1

I don't think your calculation is right, for a cpu upgrade, that's not bad. But compare to SSD upgrade, less attractive

  • +3

    Hey Guys,

Just wanted to remind you that you can use the SEPWELC2013 code on the e531 i3.
Just make sure you don't copy the code with a space at the end :)

      • trying for the same config but the earbuds keep coming up as $99 all the way to final payment

        how do you get $1?

    • Same, same… looking forward to the same disappointment…

      • Disappointment? Did I miss something?

        • Just afraid they're not gonna honor this… pessimist is never disappointed.

    • +3

wow, you sure is a OZbargainer, order first, read later!

  • Would the i3 and GT740M be ok for gaming at low-med settings? Also does the RAM and HDD have easy access slots to upgrade?

    • +2

It's fine for most games and the 740m is similar to the last generation 650m which was in alot of the high end laptops like the Mac pro and envy 17 and Alienware 14x

  • Clicked PayPal checkout button and got stuck on "Lenovo. We are processing your cart. Please wait"…

    Anyone else getting this?

    • +1

Checkout as a guest then use paypal.

    • I got the same problem…ended up paying with my credit card.

    • No, I just used PayPal and mine went through fine. Received confirmation emails as well.

    • I just paid for mine by PayPal. No issues with it. Bought the E531

  • Got an E531 $336.60

    • yup, same here, bagged one

  • is adding the extra $33 to get more HD from 320GB to 500GB worth it for the e531 i3?

    • I went for it

      • how much usually does it cost to get 500GB?

        • +1

~$15 extra if that. 500GB drives are worth roughly $65, if you really need 500GB get it for the $33.

    • +1

I would save up to a SSD, so you will get both the SSD benefit and a 320GB free external drive. :P

      • mSATA SSD to get both running at once internally. $350 for a 240GB Intel one.

  • I bought one

  • This is almost a good a bargain as the Kenwood K-mix mixer for $135 earlier this year

  • +1

Haha, I am pretty sure this is a pricing error. Don't need a new lappy so good luck to everyone.

  • +2

I bought one and was only checking out the price! :-/

  • is E531 a touch screen? the video says its optional

  • +3

I woke up this morning, caught this Lenovo fever and went crazy..

  • late to this but this is cheap. bought a 531 model for 335 delivered lol, hope they honor the deal!

  • Damn..just ordered E531 i5…can cancel and order i3 instead ?

    • write to: [email protected]

I bought one without the FHD so i ordered another one. hope they will cancel the first one:)

      • +2

They have a 14 days no questions asked return policy. You should be able to cancel the order or just return it for a refund after receiving the delivery.

        • -3

Gotta love Lenovo! Funny side story, my mate bought a Macbook Pro, took it home and played with it all night, but the girlfriend made him return it the next day! LOL they took it back too even after it was used!

        • +3

so what do Macbook Pro has anything to do with Lenovo?

  • Awesome potential bargain, thanks OP

  • mine now has a status of 'Released to Manufacturing' for the notebook and earbuds.

  • anyone please, where do u add the 1 dollar headphones?? which step??

    • look at the accessories option before you 'add to cart'

    • In the step when it gives you choice for optional accessories under audio or something

    • after you add the laptop, on the next screen, click accessories then select earbud

    • some of the laptop configs don't have the option for $1 buds. But you can always up-spec a laptop that does have it

    • +2

It's second page of the specs you want to order, the page after the laptop specs, where they try and flog you accessories that are usually way overpriced, and I think it was under "media" or "multimedia".
