  • Their website says;

    Model Number: NX.M7LSA.002

Which according to Acer (http://ec3.acer.com.au/AcerCashBack/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Lo…) gets an $89 cash back… Sooooo.

    BARGAIN!

Edit: Oh, and your maths is off. It would've been $330, but with the correct cash back it's $310.

    • Double check the cashback is from the AU site. The NZ cashback is higher.
This is the list for Australia which states $69 (note the entity number at the end of the URL. This is different for NZ claims).
      http://ec3.acer.com.au/AcerCashBack/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Lo…

      • thanks, fixed

      • Huh.. Well that's confusing! Thanks for the correction!

      • so which is the correct cashback

  • what are the thoughts on this a a laptop? in general is it good value, i dont know much about this processor series, but other specs look good for the price

    • The specifications are okay, but the brand CRAP.

  • This system has been listed before on OzB, and I bought one.
I added an SSD and find its performance very good. The graphics are sub-standard for games or rendering, but for office/web I find it excellent.
Note the touch screen makes the system reasonably heavy for the size, but still very portable.

    • Whats the battery life like? Reviews put it around 3.5 hours - was hoping for more honestly.

      • That seems about correct. I manage to get around 4 to 4.5 hours with brightness down while doing general tasks e.g. web browsing.

Edit: Keep in mind that it's only a 4 cell battery. Most laptops come with larger 6 cell batteries.

      • Battery gets about 2 and a bit hours for me with a 3G dongle & bright screen doing web browsing on the move. About 3hours+ at home on wifi.
A second battery is about $35 on ebay, and I am hoping they bring out non-OEM high capacity ones as it is a bit weak.

    • any comments on responsiveness of touch screen

      • Screen is very responsive but when you touch the screen, the sides ripple.

    • I've got one of these too and I've seen a lot of people say that they've added an SSD to it.

      How do you do it?

      • +1

It is necessary to remove the back cover and keyboard to get to the hard drive. It wasn't difficult, but if you have never done something like replace a notebook screen or similar it could be unnerving.
And I guess it voids warranty.
Alternatively, you can drop the DVD Drive out and replace with an SSD in a 9.5mm sled.

And here is a link in Spanish showing how to replace the internal HDD in a very similar model.

  • Does it have HDMI port? One picture shows HDMI port but not mentioned in the specs.

    • yes to HDMI. It also has an additional dongle port with a cable for VGA and Cat5 Ethernet.

  • Does anyone know if office works stock this model?

    • Nope, not even JB or DS.

      • Damn :( thanks though!

  • ah very tempted, just sold two laptops but I already have a laptop from work. damn it.

  • This laptop has been discussed previously for those considering:

    • Picking up on Trentan's comments on 08/08/2013 on the MSY link, he said:
"Price Matched at OW, none left in stock in Canberra (just display models but I didn't want that…)…I paid for it now ($349.60), they've got a few (30+) coming in a couple of weeks…..Still good for Acer cash back as they will print new dated invoice when I pick up."

Wondering how he went and whether the stock arrived and whether they sill have it….

  • I need a laptop for uni but it has to be able to run this 3D modelling software:

    http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/SystemRequirements.html

Will this laptop do the job?

    • I would say no.
The sys requirements suggest a 'probably' ok and shows support for Intel 3000 graphics, but I understand this machine has a subset of the 3000 spec. Happy to be corrected though.
Even if it does work, you are using a low spec machine with low spec graphics to try and do a pretty demanding job, which sounds like a recipe for frustration.
      Hence my 'no'.

  • No problem, thats for the advice.

So I need to keep my eye out for something with a better graphic card?

  • Damn you OzBargain!!
Too tempting, so one on the way for me.

  • Wonder if these will go for under $300 by xmas?

    • probably would be all sold out by then and superseded by a more recent model

    • The new gen Intel chips are pushing all 3rd prices down, so it might drop again. Or, the more likely scenario, it will be out of stock.

All depends if its worth the gamble. Personally, I'm going to wait. Don't need one until early 2014, so heaps of time to wait it out.

      • Or, the more likely scenario, it will be out of stock

it sold out last time when it was @ the same price as this deal

So probably clearing out this model

      • 6 months later, you probably get an i5 for the same price, since the technologies are moving so fast.

  • I need a cheap laptop can someone give me a reason not to get this in favour of a similar deal?

  • -2

Heads up. The cash back is store credit on acer's website, not a refund.

    • it should be eftpos card and can be used in many stores.

    • That's not correct. It's an EFTPOS card that can be used via any EFTPOS terminal.
