Me: "Hi I'd like my S3 screen repaired"

Shop: "sure it will only take 15mins, i'm not very busy"

Me: "Great! Oh I have this scoopon deal too"

Shop: "Oh! you need to book 4 weeks in advance as we book out really fast"

Me: "but you just said you weren't busy…"

Shop: "ring the number on the coupon and make an appointment. Now please leave me alone i'm very busy!"

    • They don't get any of the money from Scoopon until you redeem the coupon, so I'm not sure about your version of the story.

They will get the money eventually if the vouchers expire. Not saying they will not fix your screen but your are a class B customer and have to wait for others first because you didn't pay full price for it.

    Good deal !!!

    • Monodrama?

  • Go to eBay and search SAMSUNG GALAXY S/S2/S3/S4/NOTE 1/NOTE2 SCREEN DIGITIZER REPLACEMENT, price around $10 incl free shipping, and fix it by yourself by following the relevant guide video from YOUTUBE.

    Save you $100.

It is very very hard to fix it by yourself, check the comments on youtube and it's very risky to separate the glass digitizer with the LCD. It will be more expensive for replacement of the LCD if you ruin it.

And the SCREEN DIGITIZER REPLACEMENT are around $20 on eBay

      • I actually found the opposite, much much easier than i expected when i replaced the screen on s3 recently. ($16.90 btw)

Oh, and don't cut the flex cable accidentally, that was a bit trickier to fix…..

      • So, if material is $20, labour cost should be just $60 I think

        • I actually sell the glass on eBay, When I was selling a week ago the Glass was selling for $11.60

    • can you show me an example for the note 2…. I can only see ones showing the whole screen at $300 ? guess im not looking in the right place.

but as above - if you look at the youtube videos - its not what I'd call "easy" for the regular person to fix.
You need a heat gun and a LOT of patience to get the glass off without scratching/cracking the LCD behind it.
If you try to fix it yourself and crack the LCD, thats when you need the $300 fix

not sure if this particular deal is overpriced or not as you have to ask your local phone shop how much they charge to fix. I too would think around $60 labour is fair which would make it $80.

        • thanks… so will a hair dryer do or do you need a heat gun?

Price is nothing special. 'Usually 270' Can get the whole Galaxy S and S2 for that price.

  • OMG what happen to the guys on the photo, 1 with no hair and the other with hairy hair :P

I am guessing that you are just replacing the glass screen and not the LCD/AMOLED display screen.

Hence when you say usually $270 for replacing a cracked/broken screen it's a extremely misleading and a borderline lie.

Yes, normally when you send your phone for "repairs" for a cracked screen they replace everything. The glass + display. This is why it costs $270. The display+glass costs around $150-$200. This is why they charge you so much, the materials are expensive.

Since you are able to do this at $110, there is no way you are replacing the glass AND the display together.

This makes it NOT a deal as you're comparing it to a different repair process.

The glass panel costs ~$10-20 on eBay hence your labour cost is about $90-100.

    TL;DR?

OP is comparing different repair processes. Hence, no deal

    • I think that OP's intention is to replace glass only, But since it is so easy to make a small error they are charging such a high price.

Say that OP stuffs up 1 in 4 screens, Then he will be able to use a replacement screen and not be out of pocket to much. Not supporting OP as it is pretty much a lie…

When I tried to replace mine the digitizer started acting up, So basically if your digitizer is broken or the actual LCD is broken, They would have to fix it wouldn't they?

      • No they won't. They'll charge you extra. You have no choice by to cough it up as your phone is most likely dismantled already.

  • ive replaced the glass on my 4g s3 and it wasnt easy, well not for the fainthearted if you try it yourself, but if u have the patience it will pay off.. Cost me $24 for everything including the glass, tools, bezel, 2mm double sided tape , so the s3 i bought for $170 off gumtree is now good as new.

If i could get my hands on another cheap cracked phone I would give it another go =)

but $110 to do a glass replacement is abit pricey considering but if someone wants to part with their money its up to them.

  • You can see in the scoopon photo they have a heat gun out, That pretty much tells us they are replacing glass only as there would be no other use for a heat gun

  • Repairs are for Glass & Digitizer (Touch Screen) only (not LCD Panel). Repair only includes replacement of items specified in purchase. Screens that are faulty due to other electrical matters within device may incur additional charges and will be advised prior to screen replacement.

  • How much for Just Glass without replacing digitizer?

  • Whilst it may not be a 'bad' deal. I called Fixstation to check whether these are genuine Samsung parts - I must admit was not surprised to find out they were 3rd party.

So I would question the 'normally $270' - normally $270 sure.. but when using genuine parts.
