Good quality tags and pleasant design. I'm enjoying mine from the last deal.

    • Fantastic to hear. It was a pleasure selling to you.

  • Looking for tags for a galaxy nexus. Not sure on compatability

  • +3

These do look useful - what sort of things do people program them to do?

    • +6

      Just a few quick ideas:

      • Enable/disable WiFi & bluetooth (something I personally do when I get in and out of the car)
      • Automatically open apps (i.e the GPS app)
      • Adjust phone settings (i.e. I automatically turn up my screen brightness and volume when opening the GPS app)
      • Turn off notifications (LED light, sound, vibration and so forth)
      • Enable tethering
      • Open URLs
      • Granting access to your Wifi network without needing to give a password (needs an additional app)

      Hope that was helpful.

I love the idea of NFC tags but you can achieve most of the above with tasker.

        • +5

You can, but the idea is that you can extend the functionality that Tasker gives by tagging a specific NFC key - for example, in OP's example, hop into the car, tag the "car" NFC key to your phone, and it automatically toggles/changes stuff to get it ready for car mode.

Get on the train, tap the "train" key, and you're now listening to music with wifi/BT/GPS disabled for maximum battery life.

Hell, go to the bathroom, tap the "toilet" key, now you've got some groovy house music to poop to.

Tasker can certainly do all that, but it doesn't have the choice and convenience like a handful of NFC keys would. It for the life of me cannot distinguish whether I'm in the kitchen or my bedroom for example.

  • Can you be a bit clearer as to WHICH Nexus phone it doesn't work with? There's no way to decipher whether these work with the Nexus 4.

In the DOES NOT WORK section you have Nexus (which could be Nexus One (doesn't have NFC but your average consumer may not know it), Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, and the Nexus 4.

In the DOES WORK list you have LG Optimus G which what the Nexus 4 is based off.

So, does it work with the Nexus 4 or not?

      http://www.andytags.com/nfc-tags-compatibility-issues.html

good info on which and why and how they still might be usable. The galaxy nexus is compatible with mifare after all. Call me cheap but i just hit ebay for one. This is ozbargain after all.

    • +2

      Hi there,

To clarify, our Android Edition tags won't work with anything that has the Nexus tag attached to it (including the Nexus 4). The link provided by Infy_AsiX is pretty accurate in its description as to why these devices aren't compatible. Our NTAG203 NFC tags will work with NFC-enabled Nexus phones and can be found at: https://www.whiztags.com/product/whiztags-10-pack-ntag203-co…

You make an excellent point in regards to the Nexus One and this is why we've gone ahead and indicated that our NTAG203 NFC tags are compatible with all NFC-enabled smartphones. I love getting this sort of feedback and I appreciate your comment. I'll have a look over our description and work out how I can emphasise the fact that our tags are only for use with NFC enabled devices.

      Hope I was helpful!

  • Any particular reason why this deal's NFC Tag (Andriod edition) doesn't support Galaxy S4? Just curious…

    • +1

The Android Edition tags use the compatible Mifare 1k NFC chip which won't work with the NFC receiver that Samsung have included on the S4 (even though the S3 has no issues).

The Android Edition tags are capable of storing 716 bytes of writeable data while the NTAG203 NFC tags are capable of storing 137 bytes of writeable data.

Good question. I did some testing with my device a little while ago and came up with these figures. To open my GPS app with NFC Task Launcher takes up about 89 bytes of data. Adjusting screen brightness takes 30 bytes. Turning on bluetooth takes up 28 bytes and creating a WiFi hotspot takes up 32 bytes.

If there's any particular command you'd like to me test, just let me know and I'll report back with the data it takes up.

      Hope that helped.

    • Basically NXP Mifare tags do not follow protocol set by NFC forum and they work only with NXP-made readers which you may find in some phones.

Galaxy S4, Nexus 4 etc have Broadcom NFC hardware and hence cannot read them. Actually they can read UID but they cannot read/write any other data on the tag.

      Read more here:
      http://www.andytags.com/nfc-tags-compatibility-issues.html

  • Buy proper NTAG203's - compatible with everything. These are not the tags you're looking for.

    • NTAG203 tags:
      1. Cost more
      2. Have less memory

If your phone can read Mifare tags, why bother with NTAG203 tags?

      • but NTAG203s are the standard pretty much if im not mistaken? as in most phones are gonna be using them in the future as opposed to mifare. so if you upgrade phone/someone else wants to use your nfc tags (e.g. in a business environment) they might not be able to, just a possibility.

how big of an issue is this memory anyway, i'd assume you can fit most tasks on a standard ntag203?

      • NTAG203 tags have been listed cheaper on this website.
I've never had issues with the memory.

What happens when you upgrade phones, as I did? Finding all your tags no longer work?

These is a seller offloading the last of their scrap.

    • +1

We've found that most of our customers prefer our Mifare tags due to their larger storage capacity, however you raise a great point about computability. We also sell NTAG203 NFC tags which are currently on special too: https://www.whiztags.com/product/whiztags-10-pack-ntag203-co…

      Happy NFCing!

expired pay-wave credit and debit cards do the same thing as well as my-ki cards

    • +1

I have to say I've never tried it myself but I do find it a bit hard to believe that you can rewrite the data on these cards without some sort of encryption key otherwise everybody would be using their phones to rewrite their myki/gocards/etc with $999999999

  • Oh damn bought the NTAG203 10pack just yesterday night for a dollar more.
Can never see these things coming.

  • does this work with iphone 3gs?

    • +2

Unfortunately not as the iPhone doesn't support NFC.

    • lulz. Typical iphone user statement right here.

  • Hey Op. Just submitted a message to change my order #1443 to the standard NTAG203 ten pack. Could u please cancel my order or bill me the additional $2. Didn't even consider future proofing these for when u upgrade my phone in the future. Thanks.

    • Not a problem at all. I'll go ahead and email you now.

  • Any chance we can add more key chains to an order?

    • We can definitely get that sorted. We can add them to an existing order for $1.90 a piece (regardless of whether they're NTAG203 or Android Edition).

If you've already ordered just go ahead and shoot me through your order number via email at: https://www.whiztags.com/sayhi/

If you've yet to place an order, send me through an email with what you'd like to order (including the quantity of keychains) and I can get an invoice sent to you pretty quickly.

      Hope that helps.

  • Can I purchase the key chain only?
I would like to buy 2pcs.

    • Hi there,

Unfortunately we don't sell the keychains individually at the moment however we are running a special on our packs of 5: https://www.whiztags.com/shop/

Hope you're having a fantastic day!

I'd recommend trying Llama on Android to automate most of these typical tasks.

Different method to get a similar result…

  • Just received mine in the mail, crazy…

    • Great to hear.

I hope you're enjoying your brand new NFC tags!

  • +1

Just bought some, thanks OP rep. Will look forward to seeing how these function, not sure I'll use all 10 but hey never hurts to have spares right?.

    • Just posting to say I recieved this today, you guys have an awesome shipping company.

And the tags work well too, can't wait to try different tasks with these.

  • +1

Just received mine. Crazy fast shipping and works great so far !

  • Just got mine, the shipping is really fast!

But I couldn't get them to work with my HTC One(m7), do I need to do anything to 'initialise' these tags?

    • +1

      Hi there,

That's really strange. Can you please shoot me through an email with some details of the problem you're experiencing at www.whiztags.com/sayhi

Shouldn't take too long to get things sorted for you!

      • Problem solved, was my fault, I thought the NFC sensor area was at the middle of the HTC One but it's actually around the camera lens (https://support.htc.com/en-au/010-HTC_One/0G0/040)

Thanks, the tags look very nice :)

        • I had the same issue when I bought my HTC One. Glad to hear it's sorted.

          Enjoy!
