So what is everyone watching this month?

    • +1

Barbie Mariposa & The Fairy Pricess… (or maybe Oblivion, not quite sure…)

      • +3

I'd stick with Barbie, trust me I've seen Oblivion and its terrible.

        • -1

          Although imdb results are different

    • +1

Iron Man 3. Hope its as good as the first 2.

      • +1

It's quite good but you need an open mind going into it. They seemed to want to respect and adhere to the comics yet still have a bunch of originality for everyone.

    • best new releases:

      • The Hunt
      • Rust and Bone
      • First Position
  • I've never used one of these kiosks before. I assume you enter the code at the kiosk when renting? Doesn't seem to be a way to use it on the site as such.

    • +2

Yeah, from memory you have to have a debit card of some sort to link the rental to your name, even though it won't charge you with the free promo.

      • +3

Yeah, from memory you have to have a debit card of some sort

or credit card… and an email address…

even though it won't charge you with the free promo.

The charge you if you don't return it before 9pm the next day… That's why they need your card…

        • +1

Yeah you swipe and they charge $3.50 per day, up to $35.00, at which point you can keep the DVD.

My thought is, whats to stop you from using a throwaway email, and a prepaid debit card with only $3.50 left on it, then just absconding with the DVD?

        • +4

whats to stop you from using…

Probably nothing, although that would be fraud. The next thing you know (if these are causing too much issue with Hoyts), either those kiosks get removed, or it would now require scanning your driver's license or other documents with address just like regular video shop.

OMG, I just rented a movie using the code with my cancelled ING card, it actually works. It seems the machine doesn't check if the card actually has money or not.

        • +5

Can we change the title to "Free DVDs at Hoyts Kiosks, till further notice"

        • +1

…whats to stop you from using a throwaway email, and a prepaid debit card…

Prepaid debit cards don't work - even at some supermarkets. Don't waste your money by paying the fee for the card like I did to try it out :-(

OMG, I just rented a movie using the code with my cancelled ING card, it actually works…

For a short time but eventually the card won't be accepted - again I tried this out

        • Bad credit rating?

  • Which Wednesday is this for? I'm assuming tomorrow?

    • Yep - First Wednesday of each month.

I cant believe my local one had Iron Man 3 on Bluray. That is the newest film it has gotten in a looooong time,

  • If only they didn't remove the kiosk at my local shopping centre. :(

  • Has anyone considered leaving a post-it note of the code on the machine so that non-ozbargainers can benefit?

    • +1

yes done by myself and others - though most people have it on their phones :)

    • Yep … Love seeing the love shared on Oovie Movie Wednesday date night when a little note is sitting on the machine. Also love telling people the code - who don't know about the deal.

  • Yet again no email from Hoyts Kiosk about this free code.

I signed up 2 email addresses already and nothing.

Thankfully I get this code from here :P thanks OP

    • +1

i think they only send it out when you've actually paid to hire some during the month.

they also post it on their facebook page…

      • Well I've actually paid before within that month and still no codes…I got fed up really, hence then I didn't bother just hope someone posts the code here

        • +1

just hope someone posts the code here

          it's always posted on here…

        • +1

Which is great. Appreciate your efforts and sharing

    • +1

I never received the code from Hoyts. I always find out about them on OzBargain :)

  • Looks like the machine I normally go to isn't there anymore :(

  • I've never used this before. :(
No sense in dwelling on lost opportunities though, gets depressing fast :P
I was planning on going into town tomorrow to vote early anyways.

  • Thanks OP. Picked up Oblivion and have no expectations, haven't even seen the trailer. It's free so who cares :-)

  • Gah, didn't have my debit card on me (my parents use it for the groceries/petrol and such for the 5% paywave). :(

So I just left The Perks of Being a Wallflower on the screen, discounted, and left the code sitting at the display on a piece of paper. :P
