  • I bought some of these last time they were on sale. Reasonable quality, and they've lasted well. They aren't Skins, but you get what you pay for and these are good for the price.

    • Are they quick drying? I could use some kayaking pants for the summer

  • I was just looking for these for the gym. Thanks, OP!

sweet, some new going out gear! thanks!

Going out gear? I hope you are not a man, because we don't want to see your balls popping in and out while you are walking :(

  • Don't really care for performance/recovery features or whatever the brand name ones do these days but are these fairly warm for cold morning use or would I bet better off with tracksuit bottoms?

    • +3

They are breathable. In short, they're not at all useful for keeping you warm.

      • Thanks for the quick reply

The bottoms are to be put on UNDER clothing (as a substitute for underpants) and work great with tracksuit pants for cold weather jogging/running/walking/whatever.

That's the socially acceptable manner of wearing compression shorts/tights for men. For women it really doesn't matter if they are worn without a covering.

and for some its preferred ;)

    • You want thermals - and they are amazing.

      • +3

Be careful with the term 'thermal'. Traditional thermals are really bad for exercise. They are made of cotton and/or wool blend which absorb sweat rather than wick it away, which makes them get heavy and will start to chafe. I made this mistake in the past and just want to warn others on this.

There are thermal compression tights, which use the lycra spandex materials plus others. It's still much better to use compression shorts and tracksuit pants though both for price and comfort IMO.

        • +3

I dont think these are thermal. The thermal conpressions went on sale with the ski gear and these are just standard compression.

        • +1

Polypropylene thermals are great for keeping warm, and wicking away moisture.
They are the standard thermals sold in hiking/outdoors shops.

    • They are supposed to 'regulate' body temperature when exercising. What I've found is that when the material stretches you get a cooling sensation. So as you move you are cooled, and when you are stationary you warm up. And wind will go right through it.

Another use for these is for motorcyclists. I haven't tried it yet. But supposedly wear one of these tops under your jacket in summer and you won't be wearing a wet towel after a ride.
