I have been using my AL-KO hand mower for about a year now. It is great if the grass isn't too long and your surface is fairly flat. Don't bother with the catcher if your surface isn't completely flat. It also performs poorly with wet grass.

I was impressed with the build quality and hopefully it will last me for another year or so before the blades need replacing.

    • I agree, I got one when they had a sale last year.
I didn't bother with the catcher (I was tempted).

We've only got a small bit of lawn & it's great.
Long leaves (e.g. 10cm green gumtree leaves, palm leaves) & sticks tend to clog it up a bit, so if that's a problem you need to do a quick rake first. It also doesn't cut long growth such as dandelions (although the weed & feed fixed that one).

But having said that, our lawn isn't that even & we have a mixture of grass it still does a good job.
I tend to give it a quick mow every second week, it's only ten minutes & it looks good. Even the missus has a crack because it's light & easy. The nice thing is you can wear thongs :-)

      • The nice thing is you can wear thongs

Please tell me you are talking about your feet

"If you do not like our product, we are more than happy to accept returns of un-used products".

How would you know whether you like it or not?

    • Hello Hoondaboy,
      Thank you for your comment.
To clarify, we generally accept returns of products that are still in a condition suitable for re-sale.
As long as the product is deemed to look "Un-Used" and the change of mind return period is current it will be approved.
      Regards,

      • So you're selling used items? Do you advertise these as used and discount them? Or just hope people don't notice?

        • Hello pmupsinep,
          Thank you for your comment.
Under no circumstances would we sell a used product without disclosure that it is infact used regardless of its condition.

          Kind regards,
          Emile Theodore

Just as a FYI - almost every retailer does this for returned goods in new condition.

My math is probably wrong, but - Recommended Lawn Size: Lawns of up to 250m²
    250m² is a 1m strip 62500m long. That's 62.5km
The cutting blades are just over 30cm wide, so I'll need 3 passes at it, so I'll be pushing this mower for 187.5km.

Really think you need to reduce the recommended lawn size on that one buddy.

    • Really think you need to go back to school, buddy.

      • Don't see where I went wrong in my calculations… Care to correct me?

        • Hi Zanthius,
          Thank you for your comment.
m2 has been used as a replacement for "Square Meters" = 1*1m

At its maximum suggested lawn size with 3 passes the total distance traveled would be under 2km.

I should also add that a well maintained lawn cut at the correct height should not need 3 passes.

          Kind regards,
          Emile Theodore

        • Sigh, thanks for taking your time out to reply to my dumbass question…

When I finally get rid of all the rocks in my garden and get a lawn, yours would be the first website I look at :)

        • No Problems Zanthius,
Feel free to give me a call on (03) 9767 3700 when you are ready.
          Regards,

    250m² is a 1m strip 62500m long.

Isn't it 250m long if its 1m wide?

Even with 4 passes you will only walk 1km.

    • Isn't it 250m long if its 1m wide?

It would be a square with sides 250m, so the total surface area of your lawn would be 250m x 250m = 62500m of lawn all up.

      • Area = Length x Width
        250 = 250 x 1
        250 = 50 x 5
        250 = 25 x 10
        Etc
        Etc
        Etc

        • ah yep… I did say my math is probably wrong… it's amasing what you lose when you don't use it.

Kids, stay in school, don't end up a lowly sysadmin like me.

        • E=mc²

  • Yeah pmupsinep, I think it was just a poor choice of words from the rep. "Deeming" a product to look unused implies that the product may in fact be used because it involves a subjective evaluation by the vendor.

You can receive the product in the mail and have a visual inspection to see whether you like it or not. You can do this without "using" the product.

  • I have one of these. Takes my 10 minutes to mow my front lawn which is about 10m x 12m.

  • Im going to buy a lawn mower, but how is it compare to Wesco 1000W Lawn Mower WS32LM at Masters? http://www.masters.com.au/product/100503748/wesco-1000w-lawn…

edit: together with this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/112542 that electric mower just cost $0.10 more than this. Masters is nearby my house so I'll just pickup from there without the delivery charges. But I do not know that mower's performance compare to this
