Is there any difference between this and Hola Unblocker? Cheers for the post!

  • Currently using a firefox addon called ProxMate to view hulu, works great. This is still a good deal for other applications though :)

Free alternative that works fine: http://tunlr.net/get-started/

  • You sure it's not just a 14 day trial, until they receive payment then it's upgraded to the Semi-Annually Plan?

My friends, use the chrome extension called "Media Hint", you can thank me later.

    • There's Media Hint for Firefox too.

    • The main reason I continue to use a DNS unblocking service is for my tablet. I don't know of any free plugin style ones that work on mobile devices yet.

      • Hola.org my friend

    • Crikies! That was quick and easy. Downloaded the firefox extension, restarted firefox and voila!

Is there a reason to pay for a commercial service (or grab the 6 month freebie)

    • +1

installed media hint on chrome but can't access netflix but I can access hulu.

  • +2

https://mediahint.com/install_chrome.html Media Hint link if anyone is interested

    • Yep came here to post the link. It is not available on the chrome store, but thats ok as chrome (across all OSes) can use the same .crx file to install an extension. Cheers!

  • Free six months sounds good, would be much better if there was the ability to use a netflix region switcher. You can access a lot more different content that way. I'm using unotelly and it's an excellent service. Can easily switch netflix countries and there's lots of other services that are 'unblocked'. You can get up to 6 months free by mentioning them on social media, pretty easy, http://www.unotelly.com/quickstart2/promo

  • gee they must be making a killing if they are only providing a dns service

couldn't you just add any geoip-restricted host names to your local dns server or hosts file and watch for free?

    • They resolve the host names to their own proxies afaik.

    • +6

      ah, i see. thanks.

it seems like a security risk to configuring your computer to use their dns servers. you wouldn't want to permanently leave your computer configured that way.

  • Does this work with WDTV Live? Simply update DNS setting from the menu?

  • can anyone suggest a hulu downloader?

  • Just installed Media Hint got one month free of Netflix good deal :)

I'm in Canada. Does it work the other way round (access aussie content?)

    • +5

      Kudos for OZBargaining from Canada!

    • Not able to help you with your query, but am curious as to what Australian content you wish to view, ABC?

  • Thanks OP :)

awesome, will be good for when my chromecast arrives,

just setup 2 months free hulu.

media hint works good too but need dns for ps3

    • Won't Work at the moment, DNS is "Hard-Coded" onto the device with Google DNS. You must use VPN or wait until we find a way to change DNS via root, which won't be long in my opinion.

  • Hmm, just updated my IP on their Client login page, and set up their DNS addresses on my router. Both Hulu and iPlayer are seeing me as non-local.

Am I the only one for whom it's not working?

update: I specifically chose allpay, webmoney, other when signing up…. but the my account details shows they've set me up for credit card. Can anyone else confirm if this happened to them too?

    • +1

I specifically chose allpay, webmoney, other when signing up…. but the my account details shows they've set me up for credit card.

      yep, correcto
As long as you dont have a credit card on file, just ignore it

      • Actually I just signed up with a different email account and a different TPG connection and IP Address. Only the second account works. Good enough for me, I've submitted a cancellation request for the first account.

        update:

In troubleshooting the problem it seems like its a router configuration issue on my end. I'm trying to get at why my dd-wrt DNS addresses are being overridden by my devices when trying to use SmartyDNS. It's very strange, i've set my dd-wrt router to look to the modem for DNS addresses, and I've set SmartyDNS server addresses in the modem. When I go to whatismyip.com it shows the SmartyDNS masking IP as my IP address. But iPlayer and Hulu does not work for geoblocking.

BUT…. if I set the DNS addresses in Windows IPv4 adapter config, then iPlayer and Hulu works. This is inconvenient because I do want to watch iPlayer from many devices around the house. Anyone else facing this sort of router issue? Fixed my issues. Needed to "Update IP" in client area a couple of times, and everything got set with the DNS address set only through the modem.

  • i use unblock-us and renewal is due soon so just signed up to try.

    • Me too. You can't pay annually now on unblock-us.

      Thanks op. + vote.

  • Will this hide me from the feds

    • +1

No. To really hide your traffic you need a VPN service and you have to know that the VPN provider isn't going to provide your info to data collection agencies, and also that the data collection agencies don't already have a way decrypt your VPN data (tin foil hat optional).

  • or if using a browser then change "Automatic proxy configuration url" to https://mediahint.com/default.pac

Anyone have any idea if this might allow someone to watch AFL live through the AFL website within Australia?

  • Good deal. Doesn't work with HBO GO or al jazeera sport though

  • Nice one! Thanks bloke.

  • Can someone give me a pointer? After providing the details and selecting the last payment option, I was emailed an invoice which still require payment on the Order page. Am I doing something wrong?

    • +1

Same. I tried again, entering the promo code SMARTY and it's expired.

  • Has anyone had any luck getting this to work with a WD Live TV? I'm struggling!!

    • +1

Don't know about WD Live, but my Samsung Smart TV times out and has a connection error in the BBC iPlayer app when I play their TV shows. I dont use Netflix, but I asssume I'd face the same problem through the TV. It has a very weak system for streaming things, and I think it has a very small memory buffer pool as well.

But playing shows on Hulu and the iPlayer website works fine on my laptops and tablet.

  • They now have a 50% off for the first 3 months, it is about 2.50$ per month, just got one
