    Samsung vs Panasonic features
    Blu-ray player vs nil
    500GB vs 1TB

For an extra $8, the Samsung is worth considering. I have the E-series version, and it does almost everything. This F-series has Miracast (Allshare Cast) too, for those with Nexus 4's, SG3's, SG4's, Note 2's, Xperia Z et al, etc.

    • The link does not work for me. What's the model, so I can try to google?

Before you all jump on the Samsung, make sure you actually turn the unit on or try it somehow in the shop.

I have a Samsung TV at home, and if their PVR's use a similar menu system you'll very quickly regret your purchase. I got a 5yr old Panasonic plasma that is much more user friendly than a 1yr old Samsung in the other room.

You try and use the tv guide on the Samsung and there is so much delay you feel like throwing the remote at it. It has this mini preview of the channel you are watching that you cant turn off, that prevents you from scrolling through the channel list until it buffers (about 15 seconds). Very frustrating.

Just make sure you are happy with the Samsung before buying is all. Their menu's/tv guides suck bad- at least they did 12 months ago. Dont just go on paper specs like I did.

I have had a Samsung plasma for 4 months now and I haven't even connected the aerial or had a need to. Who still watches that crap?

  • It does not play MKV and DVD format.

Samsung is the good option but you will compromise with HDD space Samsung comes with 500GB.

just brought this a few weeks ago from Myer for $330

Was quite disappointed with it actually, i got it for my sister and wanted it to have series link which unless im missing something does not appear to have, not the most user friendly one either, at home i have fetch tv and I use to have IQ which was 10x better

other then the series link thing though i guess its alright though

Aldi have one now for $199 not sure if its better or not.

I have this unit and I DO NOT recommend it.

    1. It does not offer 'series recording' - so it can't record a TV series; you have to manually select the show you want to record, every day, or every week. Very tedious and time consuming.
    2. It does not have time shift' - this feature would be handy as sometimes shows extend longer than their initial schedule, resulting in the recording ending; but the show hadn't.

If I had my time again to make a decision I would have bought this: http://www.humaxdigital.com/au/products/product.php?gid=352

A tad more expensive, but worth it… http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/humax-hdr-7500t-1tb-hd-digital…

    • thanks for the humax link mate, it definitely looks the goods going by some further online reading.
