  • 55l storage crates used to sell for less than that http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/95743

Wonder how they compare in terms of sturdiness, some can be a bit brittle. The ones pictured here do look a bit tougher than the usual transparent ones.

They also have these 55l tubs for $6.97.

      • +2

Probably worth adding this to the main body. Not only is it bigger but also cheaper and looks like stock is available nation wide.

        • These are the same storage tubs, only the price went up by $1. I bought a few at $5.97 and can confirm they are good quality

        • Well, we have only realised this as a bargain when the price has gone up. :)

Shopped around a couple of months back for tubs (comparing BigW, Bunnings, Target, Officeworks) and settled on these. You can get slightly cheaper elsewhere but when weighing up appearance, perceived quality, and price these were the ones I picked. Bought 10. Managed to choose a broken one so make sure you get ones that handles are good, with no cracks, and you shouldn't go wrong. They stack solidly and the lid clips on well. This is their normal every day price on these though.

This is the RRP, no deal

  • +1

Good quality, but that's their regular price.

  • Isn't go-low usually about this price?

  • Got them last month, Quality is acceptable and the tubs come with plastic wheels to make them easy to move around.
Saw the plain white tubs at IKEA , they were selling the tub for $7.9 and the lid separate for $ 4.00

BPA Free! Safe to drink out of!

      711 byo slurpee cup ftw

Check your tubs thoroughly for cracks when buying. When dropping these on a hard surface like the OW floors, they break pretty easy. Make sure your tub has both handles too ;)

  • +6

Was tempted! But then I've been trying to declutter lately and must resist storing more crap I hardly/never use!

When rolling/stacking plastic crates are on super specials it's always good to buy big. The next time you need more they inevitably change the design so they don't stack properly anymore, don't share lids (or both) with the ones you bought last time.

I bought about 20 of the bastards from Bunnings back in 2004 when they were on a big special and they're all trucking on, helped me through 2 house moves and countless times when I needed to pack maximum stuff into minimum floor/closet space.

  • +1

Standard price for these. Heaps of different businesses selling them.

EDIT: Those who neg my post - just walk into your local Bunnings or $2 shop/variety stores and have a peek at their stock. <55l tubs with lids will are found at heaps of places for <$10.

Please post a link of where you'd be getting these cheaper.

      • +1

If you look on the OW website then you can see other 50l tubs selling for less than the one in the OP, as linked in the 2nd reply to the first post. Also you can look on the Bunnings website and see a few around the $8 mark too.

Regardless, $7-9 is the norm for 48-55l tubs. This is no bargain.

        • Officeworks and Bunnings both had cheaper options when I looked but as per my comment further up these seemed a good buy for the price. They just felt more solid, the lid felt strong for stacking, and the clips less flimsy that the cheaper ones I saw.

  • +5

These are thin and flimsy. Kmart has black thick ones for $8. Rather get those.

    • +3

you love the "thick black ones" eh?

  • Great for washing and storing scuba gear in

"Why you got me runnin' around town when we got a perfectly good tub at home…"

    • Haha chemistry lesson begins in 3…2…1…

  • +3

As mentioned above these are cheap RRP and the regular prices for flimsy storage boxes with lids. I've been looking at storage boxes for garage gear for some time now and I eventually settled for the kmart black tub option. I can recommend those ones for that kind of usage. Although they are "stackable" crates, which means they have no lid, they are much sturdier. The 25 litre goes for $5 and I think the 52 or 54 litre goes for $10.

Bought two and they break easily. If you want something stronger or you will move it here and there, then suggest to get some better ones.

Easily the best tubs are the 52L "Starmaid" ones sold at Woolies and Big W:

    • Much stronger
    • Properly transparent (It's really useful to be able to see what's inside without pulling it out an opening it, especially if it's at the bottom of a stack)
    • No "ridge" around the bottom (most have this, cuts into your hands, makes them impossible to lift from bottom when full)
    • No wheels (they break immediately and jam up if the contents is heavy anyway - which is of course the only time you'd need wheels)
    • Lid closes well, pretty airtight, stable when stacked 5 or 6 high
    • Starmaid (still Australian made, I think)

They do cost $12 or something usually but regularly go on sale for $10 and even 2 for $15. Definitely worth the money if buying more than one. I have maybe 50 of them, worth every penny. Makes my small house uncluttered; I can instantly find gear I need in the garage.

We use the starmaid in the garage to store tools and stuff. Very happy with them. Got them when they were discounted at bunnings a few years ago.

There is so much info in this thread… not realy keen on the deal but the info was awesome!

  • +2

Not a very good deal, especially as this is the standard RRP of the product & it's completely infearier to those within the same price bracket (of a few dollars).

BigW currently has the 48ltr "Smart Value" brand as $7.97 at standard pricing, not even on sale. They are much better than these Officeworks one's & actually give you more functioning capacity, as they don't have rounded sides/bases/edges inside the storage tub, allowing you the ability to stack evenly from bottom to top.

As the user above (mgowen) pointed out, just like with the "Starmaid" brand tubs, the Smart Value tubs are stronger, have better wheels, have no cut-causing ridges, tight sealing lid & are properly transparent.

  • +1

    TWO WORDS. Breaking Bad

    • no, we will not be doing that :p

  • I would add IMHO, that the brand Keji 81 Ltr (green sticker label) are real good/sturdy, But I have no idea where I got them from :/
    If anyone knows,please advise.

I will check out mgowen & infinite's choice, thanks for your advice.

    Cheers
