Now $18.95 ($10 for item, $8.95 for postage) for Syd. City, NSW (2000).
    Probably still worth it….

You can get much better door-stops for that price.

I wouldn't be planning to do any mechanical work with tools that cost 20c each. Rubbish tools are a good way to screw up expensive parts.

Its in stock @ Masters Northland. Thanks OP

  • I see the ads, but there seem to be none near Syd CBD. Great for $10, average for $19 (with postage)

  • Good upgrade from my ikea kit

Thanks OP, I managed to get a set. It's in stock at Masters Braybrook for those nearby.

    • Thanks, got my kit from Braybrook.

Rubbish tools are a good way to hurt yourself, from experience. I'd spend that money on one quality socket that'll last a life time and get the job done everytime

    • +2

nah, i always lose my sockets. these are perfectly adequate for around the home.

      • +7

best way to not lose sockets is to buy bl00dy expensive ones, you get so anal about putting them back you'll never lose them again!

        • +1

          agreed.

my $230 socket set i've had for 5 years now still has every single socket in it still. it is used probably twice a week for 3-4 hours. lifetime replacement warranty is great too, ratchet shit itself about month ago and took it back to the shop and they replaced the whole thing for free.

keep the docket under the tools!

        • +1

Genuinely curious here…what on earth would you use a socket set for 3-4 hrs a week for???

Perhaps this deal is more for people like me who aren't even sure what they'd use a socket set for but would like one round the house just in case some random event calls for one (not sure what, kids bike needs adjusted or something?)

        • Agreed with you, comforting to have a kit like this around. While I always go for quality I think people are being a little over the top in the comments here. The guy above mentioned that you could hurt yourself with cheap tools and while this might be true for power tools, I fail to see how using a cheap socket wrench and an expensive one is going to be the difference between injuring and not injuring oneself. I mean it's a socket wrench, it might suck but it won't hurt you.

        • +2

It really depends on how you use it. For small uses here and there it may be ok but when you are getting serious and start using the sockets for major work on cars is when you can hurt yourself. I've had first hand experience.

Nuts and bolts can be incredibly tight and with cheap sets, they can end up slipping and rounding the nuts/bolts. Worse situations can arise where you put in so much force that when the socket or ratchet gives way and snaps, your hand flies into another object from all the momentum you had trying to undo the nut/bolt. Can be an extremely painful experience when working in tight spaces and when it happened to me, my hand flew into a rather sharp bit if metal that ended up slicing part of my hand open which required a few stitches.

Although, the above situation probably won't happen as you wouldn't normally use 1/4" or 3/8" drives for such tough jobs. This set will probably be perfect for smaller jobs like spark plug and oil changes.

        • Thanks for this response I was really confused how one could actually hurt themselves. Considering my technical knowledge only extends to spark plug and oil changes I think this set will be fine!

I've got a 30 year old chinese socket set (from Big W for $20) that has never missed a beat. It has seen action on 4 cars now(and a fair bit of it too).
What youre spouting suspicously sounds like marketing propaganda, but hey if you sleep better at night with an expensive socket set and can afford it, then go for it

  • +4

You get so Anal about putting them where?

    • -1

Not sure if that was supposed to be a joke (it wasnt funny)
But he obviously meant in the sock set case, in each sockets respective holder.

      I agree with his logic.

This would be a great cheap little kit for a partner, son, daughter, nephew etc so they leave your tools alone, or just leave it in the boot of your cars in-case of emergency etc

  • Dropped by the coomera store Qld. They told me they didn't have any and were canceling orders.

  • How's the quality?

  • Use to get suckered in with quantity. Learnt my lesson and now its about quality.

Great deal for some novice to have for simple things but when your a tradie its a diff story.
