this rebate is going to get abused badly

So funny, with NSW government (past and present) energy pricing policy, more people are probably installing wood heaters to stay warm, than removing them.

    nothing beats a real fireplace

I was gonna say along the lines with others. I'm planning to install a new wood heater for next winter…

With the ever increasing cost of gas/electricity and how ineffective it is compared to a wood heater, I know what I'd rather have and even it was a $2,000 payment I'd be keeping my wood heater.

    • Don't get me wrong, love a nice wood fire heater.

But seriously, gas heating is very impressive. You must be burning a forest every night to compare gas as being ineffective. I only last an hour before the gas heater has to be turned off, even in the crap weather we've been having in NSW up till late!

If you can get mains gas, dayum it's a cheap way to heat your home.

What's the point in them having a website if you have to call for information.

hmmm $700 rebate to go back to a $600 energy bill each month or using the efficient fan forced wood heater, not paying a cent for heat & burning wood that would have to be burned before summer anyway?

Wood burning is really bad for the environment. I know one of the things I dislike about winter is going out in the backyard having to smell the neighborhood smoke.

    • Awful deal, very bad long term.

    • but burning coal to provide power for your electric heating is soooo much better?

        Yeah it actually is ;)
