$57 D-Link Powerline 200mbps Dual Pack Kit at MSY Order Online for Pickup

60

Was just browsing MSY website and came across this daily deal.

Cheapest on StaticIce is $80 so this is definitely a good deal.

Review of the D-Link DHP-307AV: http://www.trustedreviews.com/D-Link-DHP-307AV_Peripheral_re…

Finally my mother can stop whinging about not being able to order movies over her Foxtel box.

MSY needs a UI/UX designer like a junkie needs a fix.

To order online, first you must register an account, then login to your account, then choose your pickup location, after this the "Buy" button magically appears.

You can choose to pay in store or delivery.

You will then receive an order email, telling you to wait for another confirmation email from the branch manager informing you when it is ready for pickup.

  • If you're considering movies, you should be considering the "500 mbps" speed units.
200 is adquate for facebook junkies and eBay snipers. TP-LINK TL-PA411-KIT for $74. Under your $80 limit :)

Surely the fact that those TP-LINK units have 100Mbps ethernet connectors means that communication between connected devices maxes out at 100Mbps? The Netgear 500Mbps units have Gigabit connectors.

      • Hey dazweeja, your right. That's just stupid. Why would you have a 100Mbps ethernet connection on a 500Mbps device?
        http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?model=TL-PA411KI…

        • The Mbps that they advertise is the lower level powerline communications protocol. I presume you need greater than 100Mbps on this to support the full speed TCP/IP.

        • The 100Mbps ethernet unit (TL-PA411) is compatible with the same 500Mbps network on the more expensive one (TL-PA511) that has the 1Gbps port.

Given she is ordering over Foxtel I would suggest the internet connection is the bottleneck, not the internal home network.

  • Will this device work well for streaming devices like TVPAD or apple tv ?

  • cant find on staticice

  • These devices have always interested me, seems quite a reasonable price now.

Question: I just have one powerpoint where my router is … which runs everything in my study. I have a double point at my tv, which currently has my tv and my htpc plugged in. Can this work for me, considering my powerpoint near my router is already jam packed? I've read before that these things don't work great if you hang them off a power board??

Anyone have any real-life experience along these lines?

yep. i have the same problem. there's a wireless blackspot next to my HTPC, so i researched network over powerline options. there's also a lack of powerpoints in my circa-1880s stone wall cottage. so i went with netcomm 504s (500Mbps) which are also 240v pass through. to begin with, i just stuck em straight into my existing powerboard setup and they were shite. then i stuck em between the powerpoint and powerboards (as the maker intended), via short extension leads from the points (maker says no) because my points were in the corner of the room and they wouldnt plug straight into the wall. short leads seem fine. if you dont have dedicated points in each room, i would definitely get pass through. well worth spending a bit more (these were about $120/pair).
