Toshiba 39" AL Series Full HD LCD TV $398 @ Domayne

80

I'm on the lookout for a TV for the garage and saw this in store yesterday at Harvey Norman for $426 on sale and looked like a good TV for the money then, so when I read the paper today and saw it for $398 at Domayne I was sold, might be able to even get it cheaper with a little haggling. :) Salesman said it came with a 2 year warranty also.

I'm not sure that this is such a fantastic deal, it's been this price a few times months ago (e.g http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/95181, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/99306), and hasn't really dropped in price for a reasonably old model. It also didn't get fantastic reviews (someone notes "7 seconds to switch tv on, 3 seconds to change channel"). And it has no PVR function.

I also think there will be better deals in the next month or so leading up to EOFY (e.g. the 39" TCL LED from esold for $298 + deliv. a few weeks ago, a 39" Hisense for a similar price before that - both 3 year warranty).

As a brand, Toshiba doesn't have much on the other low-ends like TCL, Hisense etc. either. AFAIK they just license out their brand & badge…

All in all, I reckon you're much better off waiting for something around the $300-350 mark, 39", LED. Something will come up again soon.

    Thanks, though.

Hoping for a 46" deal soon

    • 46" screen from a cheaper brand could have a really bad picture. Like you, I too was looking for a cheap TV in that size or larger and considered Toshiba, Samsung and even the cheaply dick smith brand etc and then this came along,

Such a great picture and I'm so glad I paid a little extra for a good brand. I've had it for six months and couldn't be happier. Do yourself a favour and snap one up if you find it for a good price

you can get a 50"+ plasma for that much money.. will have a better picture aswell

      • How does the KDL46EX650 handle gaming being only 50hz

I thought it was 100 with the Motionflow 100 but I'm reading its only 50 ;(

        • I'm constantly playing Ps3 Battlefield 3 on it. Looks sexy. I don't see any issues with my picture at all. Apparently it is 100hz. I read something somewhere but that was when I first bought it and was checking out reviews.

Problem with Plasma is the reflection off the glass. I was going to get a larger Samsung Plasma but then I thought, what's the point of a nice big screen if part of the image is impaired because of my reflection etc showing. I stood in front of numerous plasmas and paid attention to the reflections. I was soon turned off.

        • The Sony KDL40EX650 has a 50 Hertz Panel Frequency. The 100 Motionflow is just a marketing term, designed to mislead us. Sony in their 2013 range even have the "W Model Range" with 200 motion flow and 50hz panel frequency, including the KDL42W670A. It sounds like someone at Sony has been talking to the Gerry.

      • Dick Smith is doing 15% off for this TV, so $20 cheaper than previous deal. I was contemplating between using the ING 5% rebate to purchase DSE gift card to save another $34 or using my 28 degree. Any chance of this one being further reduced within 6 months?

        • That's a great find! I was about to post it as a deal but then realised that it's pretty much out of stock everywhere =/

I really didn't want to post it and be on the receiving end of the negative comments regarding stock levels. OzBargain has turned into a real battlefield lately.

Also, regarding a price drop. No chance. I reckon they're making way for a new model. That's why stock is so low. See if someone will price match? I'd be happy to get it now and spend $20 more than wait 6 months with a crappy TV..

  • Aussie shops seem to be stuck with 2012 stock for their budget models. I have no idea if these 2013 models will ever be imported but I like their improved power usage enough to wait and see.

anywhere else is Cheaper than Harvey Norman/Domayne thats if you can get served.
    JB for me.

  • Im expecting TV prices to hold steady or even go up with the Aussie dollar slowly sinking now.

    • I got them to pull out a TCL and the Toshiba. The setup seemed very similar (maybe same software). There was a difference in basic design, but the biggest difference was weight. The TCL was so light I would be surprised if there was any metal or glass in it at all. Could probably hang it on a wall with one of those command strip hangers! The Toshiba weighed noticeable more.
I compare the picture quality on both for quite some time (both showing the same pic through HDMI). In my opinion the picture was better on the Toshiba. Didn't compare sound as I intended using it to play through a home theatre Bluray system.

  • I got one today. I love it. It even has good sound for an LCD.
