Not bad for a 39" LED TV considering alot of 32" screens are around $350-400. Toshiba is a pretty reliable and reputable brand too.

  • How is the quality and value compared to 32" viano fhd led lcd for $199 delivered from DSE?

    • Double the price for 7 more inches…

      • +21

This is my biggest bugbear - it isn't just "7 more inches". If you compare the area of each screen, the 32" has approx 437 sq inches while the 39" has approx 650 sq inches. So, the 39" is actually 50% larger than the 32".

Also, you are comparing a Tier 3 brand to a Tier 1 branded product. Global companies get access to A+ panels, whereas local OEMs tend to purchase previous generation A- panels. There was a pretty well known case of a HK company trying to use B grade panels in the local market and got burnt, but that is a different story.

On top of the panel differences, you are also talking about different components on the TV that would make a big difference to visual acuity. A good analogy is a TV is like a computer - made of a monitor (panel) plus processor plus graphics card, etc. Local OEMs will not have the R&D or purchasing power to get the latest processors/graphics cards etc.

If you are inclined to, you can import a TV based on a reference design, using B- panels or refurbished panels, slap on your logo and sell it for the cheapest price on the market.

I would spend a bit more and get the Sony HX750 from Costco, 200hz, smart tv, WiFi, 3D

The Sony HX750 is also a native 100hz screen, has smart features and is also 1 inch bigger. Definately worth the extra the cash.

Doesn't Costco only have 3 stores Australia wide(according to their website)? Not accessible to many.

  • How much would jbhi bargain this down towards to if you paid cash? Also using ing could take off another $18. For pick up then around $360.

    • ING discount is on purchases up to $100. Or do you put it through as 4 separate payments?

    • i think it's online only deal.

anyone wants to share their experience with this TV. I read that Toshiba lower models take a long time to turn on or switch channel.

    • Got the TV delivered yesterday.

      • Turn on is about 7 seconds.
      • Switch channel is about 3 seconds.
      • thanks for the update, just as slow as those Sanyo re badged TV on sale at BigW every other weeks.

  • specs on JB Hi Fi's Website says it has an SD tuner.
Could they have got this wrong, or is this the reason its so cheap.
It would be a shame not to be able to receive HD channels

    • Really? only SD tuner. Thats sucks. Sorry to those who bought one of these. I would be taking mine back if I bought one.

JB are wrong. It decodes HD (both MPEG-2 and H.264) just fine.

      • We are talking about the tuner here. Not what it decodes.
There are about 4 high def channels like One HD that only a High Def tuner will pickup and send to your TV.
It has nothing to do with decoding video files.

        • I'm talking about decoding the OTA stream received from the tuner, not decoding files.

Never rely on JB's specs. They get the work experience kid to write them up.

    • The specs has been fixed (http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/toshiba/39al900-3…) and now say HD Tuner.

Got the TV yesterday and it definitely can receive HD channels.

Big Brown Box is selling the Toshiba '39AL900A' for the same price including delivery. I cant for the life of me work out the difference between the 900 and the 900a though. Maybe just another typo as the 'A' model is the only one that appears on the toshiba website. http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/toshiba-39al900a-39-inch-99cm-…

  • Just don't use your public bus to transport the TV ;)

  • I just got the TV and I'm happy overall, BUT I can't figure out why it can't play my .avi files from my hard drive. Does anybody experience similar issues and maybe knows how to fix it? Just the audio comes up and a message "video source not support" or similar. Thanks!

    • +1

Very likely the .AVI files use codec that is not supported by Toshiba.
(Samsung has a great list: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/learningresources/media2.…, I can't find a similar list for Toshiba).

Try a few .AVI files and there should be one or two that can playback correctly.

If you are on Windows, use http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en to figure out the video/audio codec info and use http://handbrake.fr/ to convert to the format that the TV can playback.

      • Thanks mate, I will try that. Was just surprised as all of my previous TVs with USB never had an issue (even the real cheap ones) and the manual states that it can play different standard video and audio codes in .avi format.
