  • Can anyone please enlighten me if the card has a "activate before" date? Would like to keep some for backup purposes.

  • Am I right in my way of thinking that it means I could buy 12 of these and effectively have 12 months access with 36GB of data for $120 (by activating a new one each month)… as opposed to a 365 day 12GB $180 recharge???

  • Thanks OP,

Has anyone used these overseas for general internet browsing etc? Is it expensive?

  • Does it works on non-Ipad devices?

  • Gerbud, can't be used overseas, A guy recently bought 3 gb data from telstra, used it overseas, got back $8000 bill. Do Not use mobile data overseas.

Prepaid will never give you a bill ;)

Interested in knowing whether the guy paid that bill?

  • Does anyone know if the Telstra $30 Prepaid Sim are selling cheap anywhere.
Like the previous deal from TGG: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/104698?

My apologies, an IPad sim does not have $30 credits it only have 3GB data, if we activate it under a different plant there is no credits included.

        • some have, others haven't - check past deals

Can this be used as Play Store credit?

    • I'd also like to know this, I need to grab some stuff off the store :-)

It's not as easy as buying a $15 telstra starter kit but can be done quite easily .

They can be used for Google play but you'll need to do a little work.
when you get the sim go on Telstra 24x7 online chat turn on the tv it'll probably take 15mins to do this.
      and ask

"I have a Ipad $30 prepaid sim and want to activate it for use with my Android mobile phone.
I'd like to activate it under the Longlife prepaid mobile phone plan would you be able to help me with that?"

After that everything else falls in place they ask you for the Service number and the Sim serial and sometimes they ask for Goverment issued ID numbers/ phone numbers associated with you and whether this sim came from a prepaid starter kit or bundled with a device.

and right before the end of chat ask them "so we got that $30 Ipad sim activated under the Android mobile long life plan and it has $30 credit on it?"

It might take 24hs to activate though.

I've used this way to turn 3 of them so far but turning them into googleplay credit isn't the big issue it's that it's getting hard to figure out what to buy with the credit. Who knew it'd be hard to spend $120 worth of google credit?

a user who messaged me said today that they chatted to someone from tesltra and the staff said they couldn't convert them but I dunno if maybe he got an unhelpful staff member or something.
Maybe it's because he asked for it to be changed to from an ipad sim to voice instead of something more detailed, I don't know.
so might still work might not.

I'll be trying another tomorrow (will report back) probably and hope they're still converting as I've got 3 left
but it really is difficult trying to figure out whats good left to buy on google play.

      • Nope still works with live chat guy must've gotten bad support.

      • thanks a lot for that. very helpful.

        • no problem have fun with your google play credits :D

spam! I keep seeing this deal in my email - spam . Buy a kogan sim and be done with it.

    • +1

What are you talking about? This is a good deal and a bargain. Your preference doesn't enter into the equation

    • That… And one of my colleagues ordered a sim through Kogan and waited 5 weeks for delivery!

      • and I got mine in 2 business days go figure

Kogan, Vaya, Liveconnected, n Optus SIM's are Suck !! they are all soooo sloooow during the day. (in Sydney anyway , not sure elsewhere) i.e I have to wait 2 minutes just to open my email, or the ozbargain page…. (no chance of scoring any deals at this speed anyway) its just crazy.
It's clearly congestion as they all work fine at 1am !!! I got the same poor performance with the Vaya 4G Sim too ….and support is a waste of time, just as much as their service, so i use the Telstra sims during the day, and swap it out at night for any downloads.
And so this is year 2013 for you… if you complain too much they just cut your contract n just flick you off their list like a pest…problem solved.and Yes I have written to the TIO, but one person don't make a lot of difference, we should all complain if services are poor, I mean as an example it's Crazy how we all put up with riding these crap trains to work, either its so hot in Summer its a frikin sauna get to work soaking, in Winter its freezing, at night its unsafe, yet we have gaggles of up to 9 ticket inspectors/Police hassling people for tickets….What the !!!
I have travelled to many other developed countries and I can't remember seeing such poor service in other countries, and here we are spending another $400 million on a new more expensive OPAL ticketing system. Nice One !

    • I think you kind of "went off track there", But I agree completely!!!

    • $10 price after points redeemed

      for 1 starter kit so 1000pts = $5?

1,000 BONUS POINTS. Offer applies only once per flybuys member.

ie. not 1000pts per starter kit :(

      • It is vague as offer is 1000pts for a $30 starter kit. Limit of 10 SIMs in the 1 offer.
[Edit] After reading again, I think it is only 1000 pts total, just the 1/2 price applies to 10.
But 1 is effectively $10, as 2000pts can be redeemed for $10 spend at Coles.

  • Thanks.

Has anyone suspected that Telstra might have charged us double or something when we activate these micro SIMs on non-ipad devices ?
I seem to feel that the 3GB bandwidth get used up extra fast when using these SIMs.

  • No. Charged roughly for amount my phone registered as used (upload + download).

  • I mean Telstra can easily report 1MB for every 0.5MB real usage, agree?

I just seems to have this gut feel that it is running out faster than other SIMs.
