  • Nice one, ozpete.
I had a quick look in a Bing Lee last thursday and Koreans (similar resolution) were going for around $1200 and the Aquos for $1400 and up.

It's tempting! So what's the chance of HN doing their 110% price beat deal? :)

    • lol… no chance! HN would do anything and everything to get out of honoring their price-matches!

    • Bing Lee / Harvey's / GG / JB / etc probably don't range this item, in fact not many stores do. The 'S' series is the very-entry level TV which seems to be in limited supply.

K-Mart have done an order for possibly 10,000 or so and they grab all the stock they can. Other retailers either don't have the stock or didn't get the bulk pricing to be anywhere near competitive on this deal.

The picture is slightly duller than your LG/Samsung variants and doesn't have a 3 year warranty like the others do. However at $999 it's a great deal and if you can get the staff discount that's another 5% off. You'll be hard pressed to get the LG/Samsung for under $1200, and while they look better (picture and design) and have an extra warranty, it's still $200 more.

SO - all in all, good deal, grab one while you can.

      • You'll be surprised. My parents pickup 40" Sammy 4 series for well below $1200 last week. Yep, brand new with 3-year warranty (make that 4 years thanks to platinum visa).

        • How much is 'well below'? I work at a retailer and would be surprised to see these going for anything less than $1200 given the latest spate of price rises. Only if it was a silly sale and the company is facing liquidation would I think they'd go that cheaply.. but if you'd like to give me more info I'd be happy!

          • @cyssero: I won't post the price here as it was not an advertised price. The TV has 2009 built date on it so it's probably fresh stock (i.e. higher cost). The sales guy was pretty eager to deal, we told him our price and he just did it after talking to the manager (may be he wanted an early head start).

Coincidentally, while paying at the counter, someone just bought the same TV for $1350 (sticker prices was $1450), clearly they didn't do their homework. Btw, Myer has it for $1200 sticker price, we got the sales guy to throw in freebies without even trying (it seems there's lots of room for improvement).

            • @browser: Can I ask the actual price you paid? Well below 1200? Could be 1000 or 900? Thanks

  • +1

1366 X 768 is not true HD. the 1080p part is a little misleading. It does not have the resolution to display 1080p.

    • +1

There is HD and there is FULL HD. 1366 x 768 is HD and 1920 x 1080 is full HD. Both can show HD broadcast.

    • Common misconception quantocks - "HD" is anything greater than 720 lines horizontally. 1080p on a 37" TV is next to useless even with Blu-ray, contrast ratio and brightness will probably make the picture look better than a higher resolution on a relatively small panel.

  • Very nice price +ve from me :)

  • does the catalogue have any deals for the smaller bravia's?

    • Nope - they only have a 32 in Sanyo same resolution $849

  • quantocks: there is a reason why the 1080p part is in supported and not in displayed. Nor does it state true HD on this page.

  • Great find pete! Just bought a new HTPC and now need a new TV as well… :)

  • This tv has been out of production for a while……so as not to piss off the regular retail partners i.e. Harveys , Good Guys , etc..they give their remainder to Kmart to clear. Usually the only problem is Kmart only has 1 or 2 per store and heaps of people get pissed when they go down and none are left.

  • Thanks to ozpete's link I checked and there was no listing of HN.
No listing of Myer, yet they sell them.

Who knows if any of the larger Myer shops stock it? It's such an unusual size, maybe only K Mart and Sony Style?

  • ugoagogo, that explains why I'd never expect to see Sony TVs at K Mart except maybe this kind of sale. Thanks for the explanation.

  • I wonder if they hold any spare stocks to exchange for pixel defects. I guess worst case just ask for refund.

  • +1

So Kmart finally got the 37" Sony back.
This was a great deal 260 days ago but I'm not so sure now.

Even with the so called "price hike" on LCD TV's, you should be able to get a better TV for around the same price.

  • You can still pick up a Samsung equivalent in spec for around $100 more with 3 yr warranty
or a 42" plasma for about $140 more.

  • Would you folks recommend this or a 32” Full HD Samsung for around $1050? I plan to use it for ps3 and blu-ray. I managed to talk down the dudes at HN from $1399 for the samsung to $1050 so give it a shot.

    • Honestly - it's a little small for "full HD", unless you are using it as a computer monitor (and sitting 30cm away from it).

My dad bought a full-HD 32" as his main TV, and he sits a few metres away - you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between HD and full-HD at that distance with a screen of that size.

(I have a 40" full-HD, and when I was in the stores, I couldn't tell the difference between HD and full-HD with a 40" past once I stood a few metres away).

I guess the question is - just how good is your eyesight?

In saying that though, the Samsung has the better warranty! :)

  • I would probably get the bigger tv.
Full Hd is fine but bigger is best.

  • Thanks guys, so the Sony it is. Now I just have to track down one in Tassie.

  • who will price match this deal!? can't find any store that will so far…

    • First you will have to find a store who stocked the Sony S series (so far I have not seem any). No one will price match if they have to order in.

      • well i know sony centre and jb both have the S series in stock but would not budge down to $1000. They are currently selling it for $1500-$1400.

  • ozpete

where did you get the catalog?

    i can't find it anywhere?

    • Check your mail box.

  • In NSW - but Catalog says KC5595 V1 National P9/W1/2009 if that helps

  • Hey folks I received the catalog in the mail last night. I will upload pictures of it this evening if I can do that (I am knew to writing on posts and things - still quite exciting). Does anyone know if any Tasmanian stores have these in stock? Peace out

  • bought one today

    solid deal,

got there at 945 and we overheard the storeclerk say that they had sold 12 of them already and there was only 1 left

so snapped it up quick smart.

    good tv, thanks for posting!

  • Sold out earlier today at Chatswood (even the store demo) and Hornsby.

  • great deal :D got mine today.

    • thanks for the vote of thanks

  • ozpete and other readers,
    You wouldn't believe it.

I'm the newest owner of this 37" Bravia, a couple of weeks after the original deal.

My local Kmart had one left. I told the guy I'd missed out on the original sale on the Thursday and his manager let me have the one left (this is at Hornsby NSW).

$999 catalogue sale price, not $1445 (the regular price on the shelf today).

(Here's why - metro shops were allocated small numbers, say 8-12ea, but country shops were allocated 2-3x due to their larger catchment areas.. then the metro shops ordered these country ones back, to cover backorders etc.
Worth a look for anyone who missed out!)

  • I set it up today and watched part of the F1 GP / V8s in bed earlier and now flicking around.
It's MUCH better than the CRT weidescreen it replaced, in terms of colour and detail.

A great fit for the room, saving space compared to the CRT TV and makes the room feel like a hotel room. :)

(Some OzBargain voters/commenters have done okay with this.
    Thanks OzPete, Sony & KMart!)
