  • So not all filters are the same? I have a few at home that look like this but I've noticed my connection doesn't connect at ADSL2+ when using them. (so I don't use one, no phone plugged in anyway) Might need to get this.

    • Unless its faulty they are generally all the same in terms of Internet reliability/sync speed.

    • +4

You don't need one if there is no phone plugged in!

Very true, and if you are on ozbargain with a home phone, why aren't you using voip? :)

        • Well some of us have too many included calls on their cheap mobile plans.
(I use VOIP for long 8c calls to landlines)
Even a $2 SIM from Target (ends 6/6, with $20 credit) will give you say 40 x 3.33 minute calls in 90 days http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/104584

        • Hi Bruce,

I use boost mobile myself: http://www.boost.com.au/frontend/home.aspx

          $40 unlimited!

They're very good and network coverage is great.

          • Jason.
        • VOIP doesn't work with fax or alarms

        • Wow, 3Gb for a month. fabulous. Talk about cross promotion.

        • hah, we don't make any $$ for that suggestion.

I just find their service pretty good!

          Certainly better than vodaphone! :)

I think boost are on the NextG network too, either way - it's faster than what I was on!

  • Thanks bought 2.

    • Pleasure!

Let us know if you're download speeds improve. :)

Thanks, ordered one, hope it's good!

I thought all these do is filter out the adsl noise from the phone, not the phone noise from the adsl. But a little wikipedia-ing shows me I was wrong! Although I won't buy one, as I have about 4 in a box of old computer junk, and haven't had a phone plugged in for years.

    • Correct.

Filters will filter out the noise in your lines, caused by ADSL or other line noise related issues with your line.

      :)

    • +1

To be more precise, the filter prevents the phone from "short circuiting" the line at the ADSL frequencies involved, in addition from preventing the phone signals from interfering with ADSL signals.

    • lol too late, shipped! That's mighty quick +++++++++

  • "If you install these filters on your line, you will notice an increase in your line stability and also possibly your download speeds"

So are you suggesting these filters are of better quality than say a Netcomm / Billion filter?

    • too difficult to answer?

      • The answer is no its not better.

    • Sorry Quote Train,

It is actually a hard one to answer because depending on the unit that you are looking at to compare it with will depend on which one is better.

    • Those filters that come with billion modems are more than likely rebaged versions of these filters, or something else out of china.

ACS Filters are the best filters in Australia (ADSL2+ Certified, etc)

And Telequip would probably be second or third (on par with C10).

I just ordered one too. My internet drops out when a fax comes in so it will be interesting to see if this helps

  • Hi rep, any chance I can throw in the $3 18cm telephone cable and still get free shipping?

    • Hi ScaryZombie,

Just for you, We can do this :)

  • Is this just the first port where the modem is plugged in or can it also be used for the other connected ports with additional handsets plugged in? Do I need to get something like this for those ports? Thanks

    • +1

You'd basically need a filter for every single non-ADSL device connected throughout your house.

If the additional handsets you are talking about are handsets for a multiple cordless phone set, then no, you don't need extra filters, as the base station is the only device connected with a phone cable - hence this is the one that needs to be filtered.

      • Thanks I understand that but was wondering whether these can also be used for each additional phone plugged in (with the modem port left empty) or if I need the one linked above (ie, filter without modem port, more expensive item)

        • Anyone know?

  • Here is mine - WC065425

    • Thanks :) Lollies added to your order ;)

  • If you want a good/top end quality filter designed to isolate the phone audio spectrum from the dsl spectrum, consider a telstra or jackson C10.

Probably much more expensive than $3.99.

What is the purpose of a DSL (ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+) filter/splitter?

DSL technology shares a telephone line with standard voice services. A DSL filter/splitter is basically a low pass filter, separating high frequency DSL signals and lower frequency voice signals. The low pass filter allows the low frequency (voice) signals to pass through, blocking the high frequency DSL signals (data) from traveling to the telephone (or CPE in general terms). At the same time it also minimises interference from CPE to the DSL device (ADSL modem) and keeps the DSL service operating at optimal levels.

Note CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) means telephone sets (including cordless types), answering machines, facsimile (fax) machines, V.90 56kbps dial up modems, automatic dialers and recorders. And DSL device means your ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ modem or router.

ADSL filter means C10 ADSL filter/splitter.

    • Yet a cheap $1 filter won't change your modem sync speed or make your Internet less reliable.

      So who cares.

      • The filters are normally $15+. We're selling them cheaper, as a lead gen.

Telequip are certified to the same standards as C10.
